Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Yesterday we talked about what songs we want. Today let's talk about alternate costumes/color swaps that we want!

Disclaimer: I'm sure most characters won't get alternates, but it's fun to speculate.

As for confirmed characters:
Pit - Dark Pit is a given, considering he was based off of Brawl's black Pit costume.

Bowser - Dry Bones Bowser would be bad ass. We've already seen it in Project M, and seeing it in a mainline game would make me happy. Perhaps if his final smash is changed we could see a smaller Giga Bowser as well for a costume. As for something completely unrealistic, Super Mario 64 Bowser would be amazing and maybe convince me to get good as using Bowser.

Pikachu - Raichu? Seems very unlikely, but would be pretty cool I suppose. Sadly, shiny Pikachu just has lighter colored cheeks, so that's not really an option.

Fox - I can see Wolf being an alternate costume if he's taken out of the roster. That wouldn't make me happy as I loved Wolf in Brawl, but its a possibility.

Samus - I would've said Dark Samus, but that's been confirmed as an AT. Perhaps a Metroid Fusion costume could happen. I don't know if I'd use it, but I'm sure it would make a lot of others happy.

Link - Maybe a SS Link could happen. Dark Link was in Brawl, so that's probably returning. Pink-haired Link would be a nice addition as well.

Mega Man - Obviously the different colored suits will be represented. Nothing else that I can really think of here.

Villager - The obvious choice here is female villager. I'd be surprised if that didn't happen given Male WFT's existence.

Mario - Dr. Mario is another obvious choice. Maybe Metal Mario could happen given the fact that he's appeared in 2 Mario Kart games now.

Pikmin & Olimar - Maybe some of the other main characters of Pikmin could be represented? Seems unlikely to me, and I can't think of anything else.

Luigi - Dr. Luigi could make an appearance I suppose. Other than that I can't think of much.

Peach - Another obvious choice is Daisy as an alternate. Pink Gold Peach might happen, but that seems less likely to me than Metal Mario.

Toon Link - I'd love to see Toon Link in his outfit that he started with in Wind Waker. Hopefully we'll get his Spirit Tracks conductor outfit as well, although I don't know if that would work with carrying a sword around.

Sonic - Maybe Shadow? I hope not. Of all the characters who shouldn't get alternates, Sonic is up there. Let's not bring any of the countless, dumb characters from that series into Smash.

Marth - Assuming Robin gets picked as the FE: Awakening representative (which I think is more likely, personally), Chrom is an obvious choice here. Maybe Roy as well, but that seems much less likely. Lin would've been amazing, but sadly has been confirmed as an AT. Finally, this is incredibly unlikely, but perhaps Isaac?

Zelda - I wonder if SS Zelda would be able to work with Zelda's moveset...

Zero Suit Samus - I know including this would cause all sorts of unneeded controversy, but I wonder if Super Metroid's ZSS will be included.

Charizard - Shiny Charizard (Black) will certainly be included, right?

Greninja - Same as above.

Likely Veterans
Ganondorf - It probably wouldn't work out, but Toon Ganondorf would be great. His dimensions seem very different than the current Ganondorf, though.

Ness - Pajamas Ness would be great. It was one of Project M's better ideas.

That's about all I could think of off the top of my head.

I still think Wireframe Mac looks like an objective competitive advantage because of the transparency. That is actually pretty much my only major character graphic design gripe so far.
How would his transparency give him an advantage if he's still clearly visible?

Has that been confirmed? Didn't realize that! Good news for me, I missed that item.

It's only been in one the press kits so far, so you're excused.

Today's picture was a bit of a snooze, we already knew about Wire Frame Alt Costume Lil' Mac. But concerning Mega Man, I am such a fan I say throw everyone in. Proto Man, Roll, Bass, Auto, Duo, Wily-in-a-Saucer, any Robot Mater.

Pikachu - Raichu? Seems very unlikely, but would be pretty cool I suppose. Sadly, shiny Pikachu just has lighter colored cheeks, so that's not really an option.

Link - Maybe a SS Link could happen. Dark Link was in Brawl, so that's probably returning. Pink-haired Link would be a nice addition as well.

Pikmin & Olimar - Maybe some of the other main characters of Pikmin could be represented? Seems unlikely to me, and I can't think of anything else... EXCEPT Sakurai doesn't like costume alts. So maybe Pikmin Oliver (with a leaf and... I'll go now.)

Charizard - Shiny Charizard (Black) will certainly be included, right?

While I don't think all characters will gets alts, a few potential I wanted to throw out to what I quoted:

Pikachu: Some of his past alts involve hats, so maybe he could have Pokemon Trainers hat now?

Link: Did you mean his default costume in Skyward Sword? That or TP default costume might be interesting, but I myself would also be interested in Dark Link/Pink-Haired Link. But on that... (refers to Toon Link)

Pikmin & Olimar: Most obvious choice for an alt would be to use Brittany or Charlie from Pikmin 3 as alt costumes. Brittany is more likely as Charlier is a bit bigger than Olimar is while she's about the same size, however.

Toon Link: Pajamas, Pajamas, Pajamas... But we have seen conductor Link in the Spirit Tracks stage, so maybe as it's already modeled? But maybe pink hair would suit Toon Link more, if structure to look like LTTP Link?

Sonic: Mostly had different colored shoes and gloves, with slightly different blue, last-time. However, since then Sonic Colors and Lost Worlds have released, which featured multi-colored Sonicbots. Bonus if those get included with the antenna and different features, like the chest-plate.

Charizard: It'd be cool if they had a coloring similar to Charmeleon...

I really think it's unreasonable to expect a different character to be an alternate costume. It's just not something that makes sense.

It'd be neat if they could make '80's Link (ALBW; LA; OoA/S; Zelda 1&2 manual Link) the same dimensions as Twilight / Ocarina Link for an alt costume.

Well, that's a trick thing. They're not technically the same character, but they are. But wouldn't they just be like, recolored? Or do you mean match their art themes and everything? I'd like a OOT modeled Link or something like that. Getting tired of TP Link, Zelda, and Ganon.

Did Charizard and Lucario have their shiny as alt-costume? Hope Greninja will have one.

I don't think so.

WW Link sporting his PJs or ST uniform could work because they look unique. Another green outfit however probably wouldn't stick out very well from a distance or on the 3DS' smaller display.

Zelda always transformed into Sheik. I believe her profile on the Melee site mentions that the mechanic was intentionally kept secret for a while.

From what I remember of reading preview coverage of Melee before the game was released is that Sheik had a completely different Down B at the time, a Captain Falcon like kick or something.

I hate the look of Wireframe Mac. It is way to hard to tell what he is doing, because he looks like a blur on the screen.

I'd very disappointed if Pit's obvious Dark Pit alt. doesn't change his voice and change the Palutena Bow to the Silver Bow.

Once you do that, Dark Pit is pretty much another playable character.

Have we talked about how, based on the little orange bars at the top of this screen, there are apparently two more sub menus after online>with anyone? Kind of makes me think that For Glory at least will have some additional options you can choose before matchmaking begins.

Character select and stage voting?

Not sure how you can straight face say that when Phantom Hourglass exists and is worse in almost every single facet, both games are good (ST is great) but I'm not sure how anyone can say PH > ST

nope.

played phantom hourglass when it came out. loved it loads even if it wasnt as deep as console zeldas at the time it was still lotsa fun. rupee harvesting ftw

spirit tracks had the same thing going on, some improvements here and there but the overworld sucked and the rest of the levels felt too similar to phantom hourglass.

by levels i mean like any island/area/location, they felt the same as PH and didnt care for the snow tribe.

bring on majoras mask

I'd like team battle online.

Side note: this UI looks really good.

How would his transparency give him an advantage if he's still clearly visible?
Because the only easily visible parts are pants, and gloves, and maybe shoes.

To take it to the extreme, imagine a character where you can only see hands/feet/torso and they kind of fly around independently. Would it be easy to tell where the hitbox is? Would it be as easy to see the full position and length of the character, at an instant glance, as someone who has a fully textured and colored model?
