You guys have to learn to ignore the "Rippoff" posts. If the people do feel that way it's a shame, if they don't really and they just want to see people go crazy over their posts you'd just feed them by reacting to it. Also reacting to it and letting it get under your skin helps spread their bad seed and the thread is suddenly infested with their trolls instead of discussion on the topic.

The thing that tend to make trolling/drive by trolling appealing is targets readily taking the bait. If no one took any bait there would be little reason to reason to troll. Also don't be so trigger happy when someone mentions that it reminds them of a game that you don't want it compared to. It's a discussion forum. A lot of us like reading about games more than we can actually play them anymore. That's why the forums is so populated I believe. Things will always be compared to something else. Not everyone have the same memory to compare things exactly alike. If something is unlike anything people will still try to describe it by comparing it to the closest thing they can think of.

"It's like Pilot Wing + Paperboy + the last part of Seaman."

Nothing wrong at all, I was reminded of Infamous myself, especially with the grinding and shooting. But some go too far and claim that that Insomniac are trying to cash in on the infamous hype.

Yeah, very laughable given how much grinding and big open worlds are in past Insomniac games. They have been making big sand boxy levels for a long long time.

This thread,man this thread haha

Do we know what time the other previews will be going up? And will we have a new thread for them as this one seems to have worn out it's welcome.

I don't think we even know what day the other previews are coming out.

This game is a Infamous shameless rip-off. A game in which you control a dude jumping through a city and killing the bad dudes using superpowers... ffs Insomniac and MS, stop trying to copy everything Sony does. Also, you probably will have to use a gamepad (just like ISS) and to plug your console to a TV (something that reminds me to... ISS!) to play it. Awful.

Almost had me. Was /this/ close to getting caught.

Looks like another killer app for the Xbox One if you ask me. Between this & Killer Instinct I'd probably be inclined to buy an Xbone had I not developed a seething hatred for Microsoft after Win 8 and last year's console reveal. :)

People saying that it's an Infamous ripoff are just salty. Remember boys & girls that too much salt is bad for your blood pressure.

i just don't get the inFamous comparisons and that's speaking as someone with no interest in XB1 currently. Everything they've shown looks like its building on a Ratchet & Clank core for shooting, crazy weapons and various traversal methods in a zany world. I see elements of Resistance creeping in around enemy design and the coop hints so far seem reminiscent of Fuse while the overall style is a mix of original Over-strike reveal with a stylized dose of psychedelia - in short I see very little inFamous apart from an open world city that has foes and you have stuff to take them out.

It's really odd - I can only imagine some people see Insomniac being exclusive to MS as some sort of betrayal and are now dead set against them. Personally I hope it works out well as I've always liked Insomniac although I feel they had a pretty lousy time during second half of last gen when every decision they made seemed like the wrong move. I was worried - and have said as much in other threads - that going exclusive with MS at arguably the wrong time from a launch sales/popularity perspective might be their latest bad move but it seems MS is backing the title well and it's getting decent attention so I'm hopeful they'll see enough sales and find an audience on the Xbox with the IP.

We're supposed to get some new footage today right ? has anything surfaced ? I haven't seen anything myself.

Haven't been in this thread for a while. Looks like the trolls are in full force

truth or not, I don't think such a post helps in anyway.

What is crazy is that I live like 5 miles from the Insomniac studio in Durham, NC. I wonder what would happen if I just showed up and told the receptionist that I am hear to play sunset overdrive?

On a side note... Day one purchase for me (like all Insomniac games)!

Hell, I'll openly admit that I was one of the salty ones when Sunset Overdrive was first revealed, but I've gotten over it and I can't get my mind around the comparisons meant to degrade this game. My salt's gone, the game looks good. I'm sure everyone else can move along too.

If you peeped out from under your Koopa shell duvet a little more often, you might realise there are trolls against every system.

Haha, been lurking in this thread for quite a while, and managed to avoid jumping in the chaos. Of all the things to draw me out, it was this? LOL, I think that visual made me chuckle more than I should. ;D

But since I'm here now, I may as well toss in my two pennies.

In my eyes, Sunset Overdrive is a much more aesthetically beautiful game than Infamous Second Son. Whether it's doing less in certain areas - from a technical standpoint - hardly matter to because it's just simply more visually appealing. Even so, there are sure to be instances where SO may hold a technical edge. Animation, number of onscreen characters, and AI are some possible key areas. Both games throw around very impressive particles effects, though ISS may an edge, based on what has been shown so far. When it all boils down though, there's not a lot to knock about Sunset Overdrive, and what little has been shown looks really great. But, trolls...

If I had both a PS4 and XB1, and had a choice of only one game. Based on what I've seen of them, I would definitely go with Sunset Overdrive. The open world in SO has much more life to it and appears more fun to be in, with a greater emphasis on exploration. The traversal mechanics seems equally satisfying as in ISS(if not more so), the enemies look way more interesting to battle, and there is undeniably more charm to the game as a whole. All in all, it looks like a lot more FUN to play, so it would I would be my pick. Anxious to see how it actually turns out.

This is coming from a Wii U owner that owners all 3 home consoles in the last gen, so it's likely fair to say I don't have a 'horse' in this race. This is simply my honest opinion. Trolls really need to chill. It only shows how 'threatened' and insecure they feel about this game coming to XB1 and not their console of choice.

It looks nothing at all like Infamous. Closest to me is JSR mixed with Crackdown.

the traversal seems to be inspired by infamous. nothing wrong with that though

seems like there is some intense console wars going on in this thread. "oh no it isn't inspired from a sony game!" "ms did it first!" blah blah blah

Crackdown comparison is undeniable to me, especially consider Crackdown 2 enemies...

Afaik the trailer that was supposed to hit today was preponed to last friday.

Andrea Rene at The Escapist has a video interview going up tomorrow with Insomniac?

We can expect to see more from Sunset Overdrive at E3 in June as they'll be on stage during the Xbox Press Conference. But if you want to learn more about Sunset City and get a first look gameplay, watch my video interview with Murray and Smith debuting on May 13th.

Looks pretty meh overall. Reminds me of Dead Rising (which I couldn't get into) with better platforming. Concept looks fun enough. Definitely gonna keep my eye on it.

That's the same thing happened with either Into The Nexus or ACIT, they were blamed for taking the gravitational platforming from SMG, while actually it was SMG that took that from the past R&C.

Insomniac is getting a lot of hate recently, which is definitely not justifiable by their track record.

The traversal looks like JSR. I haven't played new Infamous but apart from grinding on wires what are the other similarities?

I don't think it's about that, but the game is a dead ringer for JSRF, *especially* the traversal. Which is why I need this game in my life, right now.

Insomniac have been like Microsoft's OS division recently. One shitty release followed by a great one. Let's hope their track record keeps up.

More like one shitty release followed and preceded by a bunch of great games

It's like what happen with Sonic: Shadow and 2006 are shitty games? Ok, all the 3d Sonic games are shit.

I'd think at the enemies as a more stylized take on the Resistance enemies but yeah, I see where are you coming from

sorry bro but jet set radio looks like a skate boarding game to me. Tony Hawk did the same thing on PSX way before JSR. Both sunset overdrive and infamous are character action games. the traversal in infamous was basically an "amped up" version of the traversal in the sly cooper games. and some of the moves/animations in sunset overdrive and directly ripped from infamous 1 and second son.

if i knew how to make gifs they would look exactly the same. Just looking at the traversal in sunset overdrive, it seems to be "inspired" by infamous and ratchet and clank.

i am going to drop this conversation right here. the game looks fun, but this thread has taken a turn for the worse. Lots of salty playstation fans here

I don't remember skating on bars and riding telephone lines with a crowbar in inFAMOUS but I might just be remembering it wrong.

- Xbox Wire: The Wild World of Sunset Overdrive
The fictional world of Sunset City might seem like a nice place to grab a drink with friends, but it most certainly is not. In fact, as home to the world's largest beverage producer, Fizzco, it's the epicenter of the apocalypse. The disaster begins when a bad batch of the company's energy drink, Overcharge Delirium XG, infects those attending a party to celebrate its launch. It turns them into zombie mutants of various shapes and sizes, which leaves you with two jobs: killing zombies, and having plenty of fun doing it.

See, while video game apocalypses are often slow slogs through miserable wastelands, the one which Insomniac Games has devised to overwhelm Sunset City is anything but. "Sunset Overdrive" revels in color and motion, trading dilapidated old buildings for elaborate urban palaces, built with multiple traversable levels in mind. Players can run, grind, zip-line, wall-run, and bounce off the hoods of cars at pretty much all times, using the environment to their advantage in this one-man war against the odds (no pun intended).

"Sunset Overdrive" is indeed a lot of things, but "slow" is not one of them. During the game's lengthy initial design stages, leads Marcus Smith and Drew Murray decided that the game needed a strong sense of momentum at its base. So they tried littering props like oil slicks and mattresses around the city to let the player slide and bounce around it, but it felt silly. So they started removing: "At some point, we decided there would be no ladders in the game -- that was another big one for us," says Smith. The entire city was re-imagined, with an emphasis on speed; they turned fence-climbing into fence-vaulting, threw in some grindable rails and power lines, and effectively transformed the feel of the game.

"Sunset Overdrive" borrows elements from the likes of "Prince of Persia," "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater," and "Jet Set Radio" (among others) to create its vision of the apocalypse: the "awesomepocalypse." Laws and social norms are tossed out the window, and Sunset City becomes your playground. Traversal and gunplay are the name of the game, and you'll be doing them simultaneously. The more impressive your performance -- shooting enemies while grinding, taking out groups of them at once, maintaining a constant state of motion -- the heavier your damage capabilities become.

The game's customization systems are expansive as well. Not only can you precisely tailor your character from a huge number of body parts and clothing pieces, but an Amps system lets you craft weapons and other tools to help you along the way. Recipes scattered around Sunset City require cans of Overcharge to be combined with other items to craft Amps; weapons each have Amp slots, which serve to upgrade them with powers that go well beyond simple stat buffs (though you get those, too).

Like "Dead Rising 3," "Sunset Overdrive" features boatloads of enemies, which attempt to swarm you en masse while you escape using your exceptional sleight of foot. Your ultimate goal is to topple the Fizzco empire -- but along the way, you'll be offered a great number of side missions and other diversions by everyone from comic book collectors to fortune tellers. This is an open world game through and through, and you'll want to explore every crack of it when it launches for Xbox One later this year. Just remember: No matter how thirsty you are, don't drink the soda.

Hmmm, no. Infamous started on the Atari 2600 back in '76 and was rebooted a bunch. If you wanna be technical, every game steals some elements from infamous, it literally was the first for so many things. Crackdown just ended up being a poorly veiled copy.
And Crackdown is still so much better.

Hnnnngggg. I'm so excited for this game. So glad I bit the bullet and bought an Xbox One. Loving this generation so far. Bring it insomniac
