Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I was looking through E3 2013 Hype Thread so I found this image.

It's funny how perfect Wario & Metaknight always look in that artstyle.

You get the smash ball and just transform into the crappy Mega Charizard where the other players beat the crap out of Mega Charizard.

Real answers: It's a timed transformation and your attacks damage is probably doubled. But it's a Mega Pokémon so it will suck regardless.

Did you lose some online battles against Mega users recently or is there another reason you're so salty?

How the fuck are people still messing up the Newcomer character splash? It's not like it's even an obscure font! It's just a midly-kerned Helvetica Bold with both a white and black outline. For example:

Just, y'know, with more anti-aliasing. Also, if we don't have form changes this time around:

How does Mega Charizard work?

Well, if Loverboy is to be believed, Mega Charizard, and everybody, is working for the weekend.

Oh, right, as if I didn't post enough images in that last post, there's a new BitF, too:

Alt:
Alternate way-too-corny final line: ''These kids are Deku NUTS.'' Way too corny for the comic proper, that is, but just corny enough for the mouseover text.

Those Deku Baba are just so gnaw-ty

How would you feel if Krystal was in as a Palutena clone?
Not too fussy. At any rate, it'd be better than just being another Fox clone, like Falco.

I wish I could pinpoint points where the two would differ in usage of their respective staves, but I've never played Star Fox Adventures and still haven't reached whatever point proves Palutena is a fighter (last I played Uprising, I fended off the Aurum invasion
including a Face-Heel turn'd Pyrrhon
).

I'm kind of worried that the Gematsu characters might be the only remaining newcomers. Six newcomers is a lot to get through in only three months, and I'm starting to think two or three of them might be hidden.

I have been thinking--the common belief is that if Mewtwo returns he will Mega evolve for his Final Smash, but I'm not so sure. Mega Mewtwo Y is the equivalent of Mega Charizard X for Mewtwo, in that it is far and away the most advertised one, so logic dictates they would use that one, but there is a problem there--no transformations according to Sakurai. Mega Lucario and Mega Charizard X can get around it because they're so similar in proportions to their non-mega forms so they can just swap models and retain the same skeleton and animations (like Wario-Man and Giga Bowser), but Mega Mewtwo Y is too different from normal Mewtwo to do that. Mega Mewtwo X might kind of work (and even that's not perfect), but something tells me they wouldn't use that over Y. I dunno. I'm kinda feeling the playable Pokemon are going to be the four we know and Jigglypuff.

I've long since accepted this.

Mega Mewtwo Y could fly around and knock into characters like Super Sonic, or it could simply float up and let out a giant Psystrike before reverting back to its regular form. I don’t know what’s going to happen with that, but I’m willing to bet everything (that I’m allowed to bet) that Mewtwo is going to be playable. It makes too much sense — there’s Sakurai’s “we’re thinking about it” comment, fan demand from missing Brawl’s cut, its starring role in last year’s movie, its Y Mega Evolution complementing Charizard’s X Mega Evolution, and it being one of the three big ambassadors of Mega Evolution in general along with Charizard and Lucario.

I think you're misinterpreting that statement. I think all he meant was there are no more 'toggle' transformations, where you activate some mechanic to permanently transform and gain a new moveset. Timed transformations via final smash don't count.

He basically meant Zelda/Sheik, Samus/ZSS, and Pokemon Trainer's pokemon. Nothing more.

It might have even been for balance reasons that it was taken out (Transformations took longer on one system than the other, therefore balance was affected due to hardware limitations).

I don't think they are. I'm still expecting Mewtwo and a retro character to show up and I also think a Donkey Kong newcomer has a very good chance of getting in as well.

Am I the only one who, do to things like Kirby's new Final Smash and at least two of the Pokemon using their Mega Evos, that this time around the Final Smashes are just going to boil down to Kamehameahs, Omnislashes and Super-Modes for the most part?

I dunno, one of the common complaints about Brawl was the fact that there were hardly any hidden newcomers. I think Sakurai might realize this and keep more newcomers a surprise this time around. But who knows.

I dunno, Pit's seems to be pretty unique, and I doubt Luigi's vacuum is gonna fire any lasers :p

Or it could be the opposite, and Sakurai thinks at this point that there's no point in hiding any of the characters since all the secrets will end up spread on the internet just before release anyway, so he's just revealing everything before the game launches.

Yesh.

Pit - Shoots a bunch of projectiles horizontally, before having a whole area clearing.

Villager - Has his dream home FS

Luigi - With his vaccuum, will definitely be pretty different from those types.

I'm curious as to what Sheik and ZSS will have.

Yeah, I'm assuming the Gematsu leaks are the only remaining newcomers. A dozen newcomers is reasonable considering the overhauls all of the older characters are getting, and I imagine we'll be short on cuts and possibly see Mewtwo's return. I'd be content with what we've got there.

Reason why I don't believe the leak is real, or complete. No retro characters have been said.
It's never been an established rule that Smash Bros. must add at least one retro character. I don't think Sakurai picks characters just to have a retro character, he usually has something more specific in mind.

Ice Climbers were chosen to specifically represent the kooky early NES launch titles.
Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B. are both very historically significant to Nintendo.
Pit was honest to god one of the most requested characters for a third Smash.

None of them were chosen just because they were retro.

All leaks with me are false until proven true, so I'm not going to buy into the Gematsu leak until I see the Choir Boys with my own two eyes.

Also, I'm expecting a roster of 45 or less by the time this is all over, and, with all the newcomers we have so far + assuming no cuts from Brawl except Squirtle and Ivysaur, we're already at 43, and with a Namco rep (probably Pac-Man) almost certainly getting a spot, there isn't much room left for newcomers. Though, considering what happened with Mewtwo from Melee to Brawl, I wouldn't be surprised to see at least a couple more vets get the ax *coughSnakecough* and, in fact, pretty much expect that there will be at least one bullshit cut that will piss people off for years to come.

I think some people are taking Sakurai's quote from this interview too literally. Sakurai might consider Mega Man and Little Mac "old characters" -- Mega Man's implementation is definitely retro, and outside of his appearance, Little Mac pulls more from the classic games than the recent one (the Power Meter, for example). Sakurai might not even be talking about newcomers. It's way too vague a statement to mean anything concrete. There isn't a hard rule in place that absolutely necessitates the addition of retro characters in Smash Bros. -- the first game didn't have any, and it's not like there's an infinite amount of characters to pick from.

Peach's final smash (assuming it's the same as it was in Brawl) looks like it'll be in a category all its own, too.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sheik just kept the light arrow. Similarly, ZSS will probably keep the same basic smash - sucking people into a big energy ball - just without the transformation at the end.

I can see Snake, Wolf, Lucas, and maybe even ROB getting cut. Playing with ROB, I always got the feeling that Sakurai didn't quite know what to do with him - his moves seemed pretty generic and uninspired. He's a character in the same vein as Game & Watch, but with much less source material to base a moveset on.

I think that, with the exception of olimar (because his FS is now an item), everyone that hasn't had their final smash revealed is likely keeping the old one.

I could be wrong, though. I hope I'm wrong. I really want everyone to have a final smash that is something that directly comes from their games.

Link: Skyward Strike
Toon Link: Hurricane Spin
Zelda: Light Arrow was perfect.
Sheik: Light Arrow or something else
Mario: Tanuki Mario (with statue drop attack), Mega Mushroom, Something!
Peach: The emotion powers from super princess peach
Olimar: Rock pikmin (turns all pikmin into rock pikmin, which behave like bonsley, but throw farther)
Yoshi: Super dragon is fine, since it's from super mario world, but I'd like the mega egg
ZSS: Crystal flash is fine, but it's weird that it wouldn't turn her back into samus. Maybe call in her ship for an air strike?
Bowser: Dry Bowser. Can still be huge and powerful, but I'd rather it be one of his forms from his games, and not Giga Bowser, which was made up for smash.
Marth: Critical hit is fine!
Fox: Landmaster is fine! As long as falco/wolf don't get one, too!
DK: Bongos were fine, they just need to be more effective. Rambi would be cool, though.
Diddy: His old final smash was a bit uninspired, but I have no better ideas for him.
Pikachu: Volt tackle was perfect
Sonic: Super sonic was absolutely perfect, no need to change.
