Pokemon trainer always seemed a bad candidate though. You'd need to have alts for the Pokemon themselves too, not just the trainer.

Also, remember when sakurai used to use the multi-tiered screenshots? Then he started switching to just 2 miiverse posts? Wonder if it's because the multi-tiered ones requires him to edit the picture, and therefore took more time.
I wonder if you can edit them like that in the game itself, or if that's just some nintendo magic.

Oh, for some reason I thought he was referring to Shulk and Cloud from the replies.
Though at least F-Zero's anime ended of its own volition and didn't get cancelled because it was a shambling corpse.

Edit: And there was also a Fire Emblem anime, but that was adapting Marth's games. Also, it made it over to the west before any of the FE games.

I think the multi-tiered screenshots are used when a single explanation is enough for all the images in the frame, while multiple miiverse posts are better when the images are different enough to be explained separately.

Good point, although I don't entirely agree. K. Rool for example I would at least like to see in a larger role (playable is obviously preferable, but at least a boss/Assist Trophy would put him in a larger role... maybe that will put him back in the DK series). I'll be very salty if King K. Rool was shown as a trophy; it would mean that he is dead.
The comment was more made towards really hoping that there are at least a few more newcomers beyond what the Gematsu two leaks have and hoping that said possible conventional characters aren't disconfirmed.
You'll be surprised to know that part of the reason why I looked so much into the RosalinaX leak was because I once did believe that, for a very short time, the information was likely real (it was due to pessimism than anyway). Me and a few friends came together wanting to know the final roster and though that by answering a couple of technical questions (not if X character was in); those being when RosalinaX obtained the source and what "it could change" means in regards to forty-eight characters, that we would get closer to predicting the final roster. Turns out that when RosalinaX did respond to one of my friend (who sent the message and did so in a very polite way), RosalinaX kept throwing up us for a loop. Staying with our pessimism, we kept believing that RosalinaX was just responding in an unconventional. We asked our technical questions once and RosalinaX dodged it by giving us unrelated information to custom team colors and patches with stuff like character stats (or something like that). Then we asked more directly and this time, RosalinaX did not even respond (yet he still visits and comments on the Mario Kart Wii forum).
After looking at what another team had to say about RosalinaX as well as getting CAW Evolution to verify him (he said that he tried contacting him months ago, but RosalinaX didn't even respond; also said RosalinaX got his information out of Skype (what?)), I concluded that RosalinaX was almost certainly either lying for his fifteen minute of fame or was played like a fiddle. The only reason why I'm not writing it to destroy his reputation is because of the possibility of the latter scenario happens. It's more to put the RosalinaX leak down the ditch it belongs anyway.
Considering that Nintendo has been emphasizing more on DLC lately, I would not be surprised (especially if Mario Kart 8 gets DLC as well). I mean, they've already done a good job handling the Mario Golf: World Tour DLC (the content almost double with DLC IIRC and at a cheaper price, although I don't know why Rosalina is DLC) and I will admit I complained about it too prematurely.
I could see cut characters returning as DLC; newcomers and veterans (yes, even Melee cuts like Roy). I did have a theory that the characters cut in development could be added back on the Wii U version from the start and added as free DLC on the same day while still remaining consistent with Sakurai's theory on universal roster. Unfortunately, it looks like it probably can't work like that, which was disappointing to hear.
Still, I really do hope we at least get cut character as DLC. It'd be nice if the only permanent cut was Snake.
Considering the Gematsu leak, I'd say they're 99.99% in.
I'm pretty confident that we're going to see three or four newcomers at E3; those being Pac-Man, Mii, and one very highly requested Nintendo character. Palutena is the most likely, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see Mewtwo or King K. Rool show up at E3 as well (though it's not necessarily show-up or die like it would be with Ridley). Plus there is the possibility of us seeing the entire roster on there; it's not like the game has to force unlockables upon us (maybe as an option, sure, but we really shouldn't be forced to do it again for character when Sal Romano is probably going to leak the entire roster anyway). I don't think it does too much to help the chances of us getting more newcomers, though, but then again, I expect a few more for different reasons.
I'm not expecting four cuts, but if we do get one, aside from Snake, Squirtle, and Ivysaur, I could see one of Wolf/Ike/Jigglypuff being cut. I do agree that Jigglypuff isn't safe; he'll probably return just because how easy he is, but he will be low priority due to being irrelevant. Since I see Pikachu, Lucario, Charizard, Greninja, and Mewtwo being all high priority this game, Jigglypuff doesn't exactly have the bedrock of getting in over an easier Pokémon, so he will have a harder time returning. There's a really off-chance Ike gets replaced by Chrom, but that would go against Sakurai's philosophy on uniqueness so I really don't see such a thing happening. If Ike goes, it'll be due to time constraints, but I think he has a good chance of surviving time constraints even in the case one must be cut. I'm leaning towards Wolf being that cut; he was likely one of the last characters to be added so I wouldn't be too surprised if he was one of the lowest priority characters in this game. But at the end of day, I expect Wolf, Ike, and especially Jigglypuff to return.
As for the prediction, I'm seeing somewhere between forty-eight and fifty-three characters. If I had to predict a number, it'd be fifty-one. It's optimistic, but remember that's twelve more from Brawl, so it's not too impossible. If we do get forty-eight characters, it won't be because of the RosalinaX leak.
