3DS XL is the best IMO due to the bigger screen and slightly better battery life than the original 3DS and 2DS. It's also more expensive, but I think it's worth it.

Buy an XL. Infinitely better than the original 3DS. I think the 2DS is on sale for $99 at Target if you want to save money though.

If price is a factor, then 2DS. If not, try to go for an XL.

I'll think about it, I'm not going to buy the handheld until near the end of the year anyway, so I have time to decide.

In the meantime, I might pick up HeartGold, I haven't played Gen II in over a decade, the nostalgia is strong within me.

I'm thinking of "upgrading" to the 3DSXL. The increased size is a real turnoff, but I'm willing to take the hit for a better battery life.

the ppi on the xl is not that bad its not like the dsi xl where it was terrible and the 3d is much better on the xl due to the bigger screen.

Yeah, Kanto being in GSC/HGSS really hurt Johto. It is easily the worse region in the series thanks to that.

The increased screen size on the XL is great. Holding it is slightly less comfortable though, and it's harder to stay in the 3D sweet spot. Overall I think I'd recommend the XL slightly more.

Yeah that's a good point, I mean Johto could have been technically twice as big I guess :/ Though I find it interesting that it doesn't seem as apparent when you actually play the games.

Actually, it was really disappointing.

Reaching Kanto in GS felt like I was being rewarded for persevering through Johto's shallowness, until I realised that everywhere I cared about visiting was either gone or drastically shrunken down.

Cerulean Cave? Gone.
Safari Zone? Please.
Seafoam Islands? Nope.
Power Plant? No chance.
Pokémon Mansion? As if.
VIRIDIAN BLOODY FOREST? YOU WISH!

I agree with you. After trying out my sisters xl I want to sell my launch unit for a xl. I'm waiting to see if there's going to be a 3ds revision or not at e3 though. If not I want a super smash bros bundle.

I hope they put some texture filtering in the game, XY is the only 3DS game I can think of that has horrible texture shimmering, it really makes it look like an upressed DS game.

I hate the Hoenn Safari Zone. HG/SS Safari Zone should be in every game ever.

I could see them replacing it with the Friend Safari

they need to abandon or at the very least overhaul the classic Safari Zone system. I've never liked the randomness of Pokemon running from you whether you throw a rock or food at them.

Nah, there's nothing distinct about a town built on treetops, or a town built on logs in the middle of the ocean, or a town built in the crater formed by a volcano. Hoenn is sooo samey.

You don't do much of anything in the cities, though. This applies even more to any settlement without a gym. Sometimes I wish they'd make a region with 2-3 really well done cities and leave the rest largely unpopulated.

I thought that they only added Kanto into GSC after compressing the game's size down enough to fit it. It shouldn't have affected the Johto part of the game at all.
