I'm pretty sure only the girl Villager is an alt. Each gender will probably have their own different costumes/eyes/hair ala Wario's colors for his two outfits.

Hell yes! Feels kinda weird to be getting excited about female villager of all things, but such are the vagaries of the Smash Cycle.

Still slightly bummed about the fact that my Villager wouldn't be caught dead in any of those outfits...
 
Took them long enough to confirm! Was starting to worry. I don't know why people are going alt-crazy though. Clothing and customization is expected for Animal Crossing and there was no way the "1 outfit" was going to be used for every alternate costume. Didn't expect the different eyes though. That's not to say some of the characters aren't primed for alternate costumes.

There's been a lot of talk of King K. Rool lately, and it's got me thinking of bad guys in Smash Bros. I say "bad guys" instead of villains because not all of the characters who are portrayed as bad guys in Smash Bros. are necessarily villains; they can be rivals or anti-heroes, too. Anyway, I think this is an interesting subject to look into, so let's talk about bad guys in the Smash Bros. series.

In the original Super Smash Bros., there were no bad guys. Four were planned, however, but didn't make the cut: Bowser, Mewtwo, King Dedede, and Wolf.

Super Smash Bros. Melee introduced three bad guys: Bowser, Mewtwo, and Ganondorf. These three characters are even featured together in Event Match 51: The Showdown. King Dedede was also planned for Melee, but was cut in favor of six clone characters (including Ganondorf).

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, we got three more bad guys: King Dedede, Wolf, and Wario. (You could say that Meta Knight arguably counts too, but he wasn't really portrayed as a bad guy in the game like King Dedede and Wario were.) Unfortunately, we also lost one (Mewtwo; though he was planned to be in the game at one point).

So, the last two Smash Bros. games have each introduced three bad guys. Smash Bros. is made up of a large majority of hero and sidekick characters, but very few bad guys. Because of this, and because of the fact that three bad guys have been added in the last two games, I think it's a safe bet that Sakurai will add some more this time around, too. Smash Bros. needs more bad guys, after all!

But who will those bad guys be? I think it's very unlikely for any franchise that's new to Smash Bros. this time around to get a bad guy, because I don't think we'll see more than one character per new franchise, and there's no way they'd choose a bad guy over a main character (unless the main character of the franchise is a bad guy, like in Wario's case, but there aren't really many other examples of that to choose from).

With that in mind, I think it's safe to say that we should only expect bad guys from franchises that have already been represented with a character in Smash Bros. in past games. From those, subtract any franchises that already have bad guys in Smash Bros. (Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Kirby, Star Fox, and Pokémon if you include Mewtwo), because I doubt any franchise will be getting more than one. On top of that, remove any franchises that don't really have any bad guys that could be playable characters in Smash Bros. (Yoshi—because Kamek/Magikoopa is already a Smash Run enemy, Ice Climber, Game & Watch, Pikmin, Robot Series). Also, I doubt third-party franchises will be getting a second character, so you can exclude those, too. That leaves us with the following franchises, with the respective potential bad guys:

Donkey Kong: King K. Rool
Metroid: Ridley
F-ZERO: Black Shadow
EarthBound/MOTHER: Masked Man
Fire Emblem: Black Knight
Wario: Captain Syrup
Kid Icarus: Medusa or Hades

Of course, there may be other potential bad guys for some of those franchises, but I believe the ones listed are the most popular and would be the most likely. Of those, some have pretty much no chance. I doubt we'll get another F-ZERO or EarthBound/MOTHER character. And for the Wario franchise, if we ever do get another character, it'd probably be from WarioWare, not Wario Land; besides, Wario's already a bad guy, so I think another one from his series would be unlikely and unnecessary, even if it's his bad guy. When it comes to Fire Emblem, I doubt they'd add a bad guy over a main character, especially when the series has so many to choose from. For Kid Icarus, I expect Palutena before any other character, and I feel like a third Kid Icarus character is unlikely (though still more likely than bad guys from any of the franchises mentioned above).

That leaves us with only two franchises that I really feel have a good shot at getting a bad guy this time around: Donkey Kong and Metroid. And those two characters would be King K. Rool and Ridley.

Given all this, I don't think King K. Rool or Ridley are as far-fetched as many people make them seem. If we are to get any more bad guys in Smash Bros., these two kind of have priority over everyone else.

So...yeah. What do you all think? Do you really think that we won't get any more bad guys this time around? And if we do and it's not King K. Rool or Ridley, who would it be?!

Also, apologies for saying "bad guys" so much. I know how silly it sounds, but I couldn't think of a better term, lol.

EDIT: Of course, there has to be an interesting pic of the day when I try to start a new discussion. ._. XD It's about time they revealed female Villager and alternate outfits for the character. We all knew it was coming, anyway!
