Amplitude (Harmonix) PS3/PS4 - KS (Funded, final day)

Hitting 250k soon. 8 days to go

I'm starting to think this could have really benefited from having that extra couple of weeks =/

Gameplay on insane mode <3
Freezepop - Super Sprode

I think it could have also benefitted from a lower target by ditching the Amplitude name and going PC/Linux/Mac with a PlayStation family stretch-goal.

Jeff Minter has been making Tempest sequels for years without paying Atari a penny. Just change the bloody name.

People don't generally pay their employers.

I would have contributed to this if it wasn't on Kickstarter. I'm currently boycotting the company Kickstarter.

John Drake was saying on a giant bomb stream that sony also owns some gameplay elements from the original.

So it wouldn't be the same game if they didn't use the ip

They wouldnt be able to sell the game with just changing the name, they'd need to change how the game looked like and thus increasing costs on top of the HD remake.

the thing is. i cant back this game, when i know there was an "early backer - you get the game cheap" thing.
then i just cant pay "more" for the game. and that knowledge will also make me wait for a discount price thats equal or less than the "early backer" price. i dont think im alone on this one.. am i?

I thought the same at first too but I think a ton of crowdfunding products do this. Its almost a norm from what i've seen. I was annoyed when I missed it too, but well im now in a much higher tier because I want this game so bad.

Thats been argued a lot here and I agree. Since Sony owns the IP I wish they would OK a stretch goal for PC. That could give this a huge boost, but I wonder if they would have to raise their goal price

I always feel this way. Kickstarter, sales, deals, whatever. Once I know something was somewhat "widely" available at a price, I will wait for that price. Whats the CheapAssGamer in me coming out.

Chances are you won't be paying anything for the game anyway when the Kickstarter fails and it doesn't get made.

7 days left, ~$500K still to go. I've tried to get my friends interested in it, but none of them played Amplitude back in the day. I'm pledging as much as I can without getting in trouble with my wife. There's nothing else I can do. =(

Come on Harmonix, the least you can do is announce the Vita version. That'll get a bump.

Asking price too high, platforms too low. They'd have been better off making a spiritual successor under a different name and targeting more platforms.

When are these big name guys going to realize that you low ball, and incentivize to get more versus putting all of your cards on the table at once?

I feel you bro, I'm thinking of upping from 100 to 200 dollars, thats as high I could go...

The Vita folks would give it a nice boost.

Brilliant idea.

Lowball, then delay or cut parts of the game when it turns out that the budget proposed wasn't actually realistic.

In the investment world, this is considered fraud.

That boost made me a bit more hopeful. If only it had those extra 2 weeks.

The 2 extra weeks are not going to be what kills this project. Kickstarters (and this trend follows through with any kind of public fundraising) are usually front-loaded and back-loaded. Why does this happen? You get people who are super enthusiastic at the beginning who would donate at the beginning no matter what. Then, at the end, the motivations can be a little different, but it's usually a mix of people procrastinating and people who have this weird idea that they should save their donation until the end because they want to help push them over the line. These people will do this regardless of how much time you give them.

The only people you are missing out on from a 2 week fundraiser are 1) people who don't have the funds at the exact moment needed and 2) people who are somehow unaware that the thing exists. There have been enough blog posts and forum posts to inform your average gamer and, while they are certainly missing a subset of people, they're not making or breaking the project.

My local National Public Radio station switched their 2 week fundraiser to a 5 day fundraiser for this exact reason. They discovered they got the same amount of money either way.

* Makes mental note to never back a project made by this poster.

Well, the biggest thing that's missing for me are the benefits and bonuses. Very slim pickings.

Regardless, I got in at the EB level. If it doesn't reach goal, it'll be a bummer. But I'm certain that they'll try and get this off the ground again one way or another.

Drake said that Sony owns "some" of the concept (spaceships flying across tracks?) So they wouldn't be able to do a different game with a different name with the same concept anyway.

Its weird from when I first saw this thread/kickstarter. I immediately got hyped then was pretty bummed to find that all the music was going to be all in-house. Now I can give two shits what music will be in it. I just want to be able to play it and remix any songs they give us. I owe a lot to this series to be honest. Remix mode was sort of my first taste with music production that inspired me to follow near that career path. I'm prepped to jump to $100 on the last day. Really hope this makes it!

Sony just paid for Adele's 007 theme to be in.

Preorder Cancelled.

Do feel free to wave this at anyone who could do with a little more info.

Thanks for posting, I found this particularly interesting:

Lesser: I don’t believe that Frequency is better than Amplitude. Amplitude was an improvement in every single way but one which is subjective, which is that Frequency allowed you to go from track one to track eight by just continuing in a single direction, whereas in Amplitude there was no wrap. That’s something we’re just going to fix in this new Amplitude: there’ll be an auto-wrap so you’ll basically disintegrate and re-integrate on the other side of the track.

It’s the comment I’ve heard the most in the past decade, and I’m just shooting to fix that now. It’s not that big of a deal. You’ll get all of the beauty, open space and multiplayer freedom of Amplitude, and quite honestly the playability. We had another year to refine our mechanic for that game, and I just think it’s better.
Megaton!!!

I seem to remember Frequency having a better soundtrack but I would have to go back and look at the tracklistings for both to see if my memory is correct.

Good thing that they are fixing that, though.

Its weird from when I first saw this thread/kickstarter. I immediately got hyped then was pretty bummed to find that all the music was going to be all in-house.

I was just playing the original game earlier tonight and the difference between licensed songs and songs made for the game is pretty incredible. The licensed songs, with a few exceptions, are not nearly as fun to play as the in-house songs. (Note that I'm talking about playing on the highest difficulty, so this may not apply to those playing on lower difficulties.) I'm really excited for a complete in-house soundtrack because the replayability of most of the licensed songs in Amplitude is very low for me.

And "get hyped for a big music announcement early next week!"

Very curious what this is about. Since they're not doing licensed tracks, could they be referring to a returning artist from the past games (like Freezepop), or perhaps the one artist who's backed at the $7,500 tier so far? Or maybe even a bigger artist who's offering a song for no fee?

if I was an unknown/up and coming electronic music band, I'd be ALL over this for my songs to be in the game. It's a relatively cheap advertisement targeted laser sharp to people who'd be interested in that kind of music to begin with.

I'm also surprised that acts like Deadmau5 or Skrillex are not all over this as well, offering their songs in the game. These guys are gamers and would be a perfect ad for them not to mention something they'd love to play.

Has it been addressed why, like, they made "Amplitude" and not the spiritual sequel "Waviness" or whatever and open it up to all platforms?

Sony owns the rights to several game mechanics that Amplitude used and they didn't think it would be even close to the same game without them. Which mechanics those are though is anybody's guess. I don't think they've fully divulged that or if they even can at this point.

Ah, I was wondering if this was a case of shitty software patents ruining everything, and that seems to be what's going on.

I've never played Frequency or Amplitude, but have only heard good things. Hope it works out for them in the end.
