Do you guys think there will be an additional Male/Female Villager alt? We still don't have sleepy eyes! I wouldn't be mad with classic hat horns as well.
I don't think we'll have horns, but I expect at least 1 more of each gender, bringing it to 6, like typical character alts. It *COULD* be 12, like wario (6 of each color), but that seems like a lot of work! But it's possible.

Good discussion on Villain, and I have nothing to add to that. I always look at Wario, Meta Knight and Wolf as Anti-Heroes because they have different method to handle their situations comparing to Heroes.
Also I really like the list of potential villains. I'm hopefully to see Kid Icarus villain and Ridley, just sake of villains since I always enjoying to play as villains or anti-heroes.

Ooh, good points! I don't know what else they could do for Kirby unless he gets white and gets a nose, or he just get default villager's appearance.

I still don't understand, if this and other characters are any indication of all characters have alts in the game (because this still may be a Wario brawl case), why he doesnt confirm once for all alts are in the game and hype it as big news, becuase it would be indeed big news and something to look forward a lot in a new smash bros.
The only thing I can think is that having lots of alts was an idea that sakurai didn't have the confidence he could finish in time for the game release, so he is doing it little by little, instead of confirming and then having to deconfirm or delay becuase of lack of time.

Eh, I'm still not convinced we'll get a lot, especially not one for everyone. Right now it's just WFT and Villager, two characters who don't exactly have distinct identities which their costumes reflect. While we could get something like Doc Mario, it seems a little different than having girl Villager. And like if you extended it to everyone, what would characters like Ice Climbers and G&W have? Olimar?

The running theme for the alts has been people whose alts are still defined as the same character. All four in that picture are still "Villager." Male Wii Fit Trainer is still just "Wii Fit Trainer." Sakurai considers Wire Frame Mac still "Little Mac." Classic Wario is still "Wario."
For whatever reason, Sakurai does not consider every other version of Mario (such as the Doctor) as Mario, probably because he was listed as a separate character before. It's also why you won't just get Lucina as a Marth alt.

I think alts is something you need in your design phase of the game at the start if you want to make it a big thing (becuase ti takes a lot of time). Thats why I said that the only thing I can think why he hasn't use it a selling point (becuase it really is in a game like this) is because he has no confidence in having time to finish them all (understandable) or this a Wario brawl case where only some characters are going to get them (this is what Im more inclined for right now).
He could still have said at the E3 last year (or with the first alt he showed) that alts were confirmed, and only show them little by little as the development progresses just as he is doing now.
It's just neat that it has that integration. The smash bros miiverse will be way more interesting. In addition to some cool screenshots being posted, we can possibly get minute + videos of really sweet matches/glitches. Can't wait.

I think the point was that it would be easier to text your buddy rather than post on his miiverse wall. The integration is still cool though.

This is definitely a Wario in Brawl case.
I was just making a slight dig at Miiverse lol. I think it is a great idea.
Some people might have friends that are only through Wii U. Some people might not have a good way to share that info via smartphones, etc. Not to mention that uploading to youtube via the game, then going on to youtube, finding the link, then sending it directly is way more work than automatically posting to youtube/miiverse simultaneously, and then having your friends check it later on activity feed.

"Texture/Pallete swap" alts would make sense for the handful of characters that have texture swaps that make sense, that's a very different agument to make than expecting characters to have genuine alternative costumes on the level of WFT/Villager/Wario.

But their models are different, they're not just texture swaps.
I think the "rule" as far as alts go is that the alt character has to share the same name with the character (so they don't have to alter the victory screens/announcer).
Not sure if giving Samus a model from one of her other games would be a bigger effort than creating three different Villager alts. It'd be a nice way of bringing character variety to some IPs that don't have any characters they can implement - like the Metroid or F-Zero.

They're model swaps, but they're all "normal" Villager, if that makes sense. Like if you imagine Mario's default appearance, you think the red cap and overalls, not the Hawaiian shirt and sunglasses or the doctor costume. The same goes for Samus and her Varia suit, not her Fusions suit or Dark suit or light suit or whatever suit.
In contrast, every single one of the four Villagers we see today is just as much Villager's "normal" appearance as the other. As a customizable character, it's appropriate to give multiple options. Same goes for WFT, as both characters are the "normal" representation of WiiFit Trainer in the games. The same goes for Wario and Miis, if Miis are given multiple options as well.
I understand what you're saying, but I don't think it's a question of effort. Rather, it's about giving a definitive depiction of the character. The most I could see us getting is maybe something like OoT Link, since that's what many people think when they think of Link.

Eh what? It's a good thing that she's an alternate skin for the Male Villager, we don't need clones clogging up the roster.
In terms of alts, Dark Pit is sort of an odd case. He's a completely separate character from Pit yet he was based off a palette swap. It's practically guaranteed that the palette swap will return with a few alterations and it's even possible the voice will change when you pick it. If this does happen, would he be considered an alt based of a separate character or just a palette swap?

I love the Villager alts! I wonder how many alternate costumes Villager will end up having in the end and if it'll be a Wario-type case with a character's-worth for each "version" or a Pikachu-type case where we only get those four and we're stuck with it.
