Amazing Spider-man 2 is already $20M behind Captain America 2 going into each movie's third weekend. It fell behind by $13M in its second full week, which means we can probably kiss $225M goodbye. Who would have thought a Spider-man movie would have to do a crawl to $200M domestic.

Next up is Spider-Man Babies.

Or maybe they will really go for the full "fuck Spider-Man" effect and make One More Day into a movie.

Thursday previews for Godzilla amounted to $9.3M. We are probably looking at a first weekend of $85-100M based on that.
holy shit, that'd be amazing
I do get the sense though that Godzilla isn't going to have much in the way of legs. Word of mouth seems to be mixed already.
this is true, some people feel burned by movie.

Hopefully with that big of an opening, the legs won't need to be as long. Godzilla should do bananas overseas regardless

90M+ would guarantee a domestic total of $200m with Memorial Day in its second weekend.

Sony running the best superhero into the ground in coming years.

Gonna be sad to watch.
I feel like I say this in every Spider-Man thread but fuck Sony and Avi Arad. I can only hope that the horrible decisions they're making will result in Sony needing to get rid of the movie side and get Spider-Man back home.

When I walked out seeing it, there was a guy talking to one of his friends on the phone and said, "you might as well watch the old ones cause this one is a piece of shit". I didn't think that it was a bad movie but it definitely wasn't as amazing as I'd thought it would be and it seems like Godzilla fans absolutely hate it.

Just seen BOM say that godilla could even reach as high as 110M, however unlikely. Still cray either way
Hopefully seeing it tomorrow, cannot wait

64 Markets worlwide with all major ones other than Japan and China too. This weekend worldwide will be huge

completely disagree. If anything, its Godzilla fans that seem to appreciate the pacing and lack of Godzilla in the early parts of the movie. Lot of the Japanese films are the same way.

I have no idea what the word of mouth will be like overall. I got a very War of the Worlds vibe, and that movie did well domestically

Maybe I've just talked to the wrong Godzilla fans, then.

I'm going mostly off GAF impressions. Most of the people who have claimed to really love the series and were looking forward to the movie have had positive experiences based on the OT. Being a Godzilla nerd myself, the Godzilla parts are very well done and do justice to the character

Judging by Toho Kingdom's boards (Admittedly not the best source), they fucking love it.

I'm guessing the real audience that won't like it are people who have a second-hand idea of Godzilla from popular culture, or people who were expecting a more sordid movie than the one they got.

Or Godzilla fans who loved big monsters and disliked human elements in their monster movies. There is over 30 Godzilla movies and series has very divided fan base, whom don't see eye to eye on the issue what makes a good Godzilla movie.

I feel so disconnected from the people who didn't love Godzilla. I saw it opening day and fucking loved it, then the day after I found out a co-worker saw it the same day, and she hated it.

All the reasons she hated it for are stuff that I either loved or didn't care about in the big picture.

ASM2 is likely going to end up closer to Thor 2 domestically than Cap 2. What a disappointment for Sony.

And now Godzilla might have a higher OW.

You don't even have to use the word likely at this point. ASM2 has a 0% chance of getting within $40M of Cap 2 domestically. Cap's fourth domestic weekend has a good chance of being bigger than ASM2's third domestic weekend.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 is showing Spider-man 3 levels of legs, which might even put it under Thor 2's domestic total by the time it wraps up.

Hopefully this wakes up some people. Amazing Spider-Man 2 was way shittier than it ever should have been with such a great property. It's still doing big numbers worldwide, but not as big as it could have been.

Godzilla opened to $38.5M on Friday, giving it the biggest opening day of the year. Barring crazy drop offs today and tomorrow, $100M is pretty likely. That means that there is a decent chance that Godzilla's opening weekend will eclipse Pacific Rim's domestic total.

RAWR!!!

Perfect.

It's impossible, but it would be funny if Godzilla outdid TASM2 worldwide, in a Avengers x TDKR way.

What I don't understand is why people like the original Spiderman so much more. It was even more cliche and boring than the new one which I kind of like.

Those Christian movies are making bank. Anyone want to help me make my Job epic?

Scrap together $10k. Shoot a "found footage" movie of possessed atheists terrorizing a Christian family for their belief in the Lord (hitting two low budget movie demographics at once). Profit.
