Nintendo invites fans to the Super Smash Bros. Invitational

So who of the pros do you guys want to see there

Silent Spectre and Isai

Supposedly, this guy is in charge of making the list of people to invite and he's part of NoA. He's been in a few of the Directs before (usually when they have to announce some localizations? I think?) Anyway, if you check who he's following you can see he's following tons of Smashers from Mango to Android (Armada's younger brother) to Kounotori (Japanese Falco player) to progducto to TKBreezy to ChuDat to even Shroomed and S2J (there's more he's following obviously, like he IS following Armada).

Now obviously that's not an indication of who will be invited exactly, in the end, but it's a good sign that because he's the one making the list of invitees we may see some of the people he's following on it. And also, him following prog and D1 gives good hope that they might be the commentators. Again, it's at least a sign that someone in NoA seems to follow the Smash competitive community.

I really hope it turns out OK, anyway. I really doubt Nintendo would use some small Japanese tournament to decide who gets invited to this lol.

Although weirdly he's not following PPMD or Mew2King. But like I said, who he's following wouldn't necessarily be a 100% indicator of who's on the list lol.
Hype restored.

Correction: YOU don't care. But everyone else who wants a real atmosphere at E3 do care. I don't understand that wasted opportunity, it could be such a great E3 show but instead they are doing a video for their announcements. They HAVE a stage, they HAVE a audience and they WASTE this on ONE game. Zelda U alone could make, when its good, such big emotions it would TOP the E3 2004, because there are 3000 NINTENDO FANS!

It'll be the same, the crowd will probably watch the ND live, except we won't hear people cheering over 'X' game announcement.

If we put this aside, we have awkward presentations feat. Emily Rogers and other people babbling some nonsense and preaching their product live. I largely prefer the Nintendo Directs, they're all straight to the point, efficient and people, except a few, seem to love these.

Isai would be pretty crazy to see.
Isai would be my first invite if I were in charge. It only makes sense. I'd probably invite some rusty old school melee pros like Ken, too. ChuDat, Mango, and M2K are locks because they are comfortable in both Melee and Brawl.

I can imagine there being a disproportionate number of Ness cosplayers.

Still the best

Question from a stream/twitch rookie: will I be able to watch the video content after the fact or is it only available live? I would like to be able to watch it after I get home from work on that night.

They said that the order in which you obtain your band doesn't determine seating. They also said that bands will be distributed in a first come, first serve basis so lining up is going to be a necessity.

NintendoPR said:
Fans are requested to not line up prior to Tuesday morning

You are right, they just dont want people sleeping in the street. so at 7:00 its okay to line up

Please, we obviously know that Ono and Harada are the real attendees and that the tournament will revolve around those two in the finals.

Everyone else are just no name scrubs.

Harada and Ono showing off their smash skills is the only acceptable answer.

Usually Twitch automatically records all livestreams and hosts them as archive videos on the channel's page so you should be able to rewatch it again whenever you want. I think the channel could disable the archive function, but I highly doubt Nintendo would do that.

Where did you get this info?

A week and a half ago, someone was complaining on Twitter about seeing the list already (saying that it's somehow been going around to various different people behind the scenes? I don't know) and then went on a tirade towards JC claiming no one would be happy with the list. JC had made a tweet after that saying to not believe so and so and that he has to do some blocking. His reaction towards the person pretty much confirms that he is working on the list.

I don't know much about who the guy is that was calling out JC but the other reason I know is because prog and D1 have deffo been talking to JC since like January. D1 even requested the community to give him articles that showed the competitive scene in a good light to give to someone at Nintendo. He didn't specify who it was other than "it is important". My guess is that D1 was giving whatever was linked to JC and JC passed all of that stuff along to the right channels in Nintendo/NoA.

Basically, that's how I know. It makes sense having the guy who has been in direct contact with community figureheads since January to make the list of people to invite.

Also, all of this sorta hints at it being more of NoA's idea than NoJ/NCL.

I don't understand Ninendo. Why not make Digital Event right after the Smash Event and then make a live stream in which they announce new games, so they could use a great stage and a audience for their announcements. This is so dumb from Nintendo, as always. Instead we get a pre-recorded video without any emotions... Fine for Smash fans but for everyone else it's a wasted opportunity.

This doesn't make sense if they have new characters to announce and they are in the E3 build of the game.

You do know that Emily Rogers doesn't work for Nintendo, right? She's a journalist fir Nintendo Life, which is probably where you got confused.

They could, but I'm expecting multiple characters at E3.

Yeah. My expectations are that the Digital event will have a trailer with 2-3 veterans (Metaknight, Wario, etc), and 1 newcomer. Then, another separate trailer, like mega man's right after. Then, for the Tournament, we'll get one more trailer with another newcomer, like Wii Fit Trainer. Someone unexpected or fun or interesting for the tournament. Maybe even a fan-favorite veteran, like falco or captain falcon. Then I expect one last newcomer revealed at the roundtable.

Please have 64 and Brawl players that won't go nuts when the game doesn't turn out to be Melee HD. Please.

I hope most melee pro players they invite will be mature enough to not freak out and give this game a chance before reverting back to melee. I hope this game can even convert a few of them (to play both).

lol what? People would be able to play the game at Best Buy and talk badly about the game themselves. Silly logic there.

Profanity is something they wouldn't want to occur during the tournament.

Wednesday. Tuesday is for the Smash Bros roundtable.
i was talking about the competitive side of the new smash bros,i have no doubt that it will be a good game, but so was brawl, and yet a part of the user base wasn't happy with it.

I don't think Melee players will ever abandon Melee. And that's cool! I love Melee too. But this game won't play like Melee, and I don't think that equals being bad. I'm just hoping they don't, either :P

It's a shame that a vocal minority's opinion on a game can actually influence non-competitive players, too. I know people who won't play brawl anymore because the pros don't like it. Their opinion is based on the opinions of others. That's why I'm hoping this game does well competitively, because it means more people will buy the game, even if they don't play it competitively.

I don't think they will either, but it'd be nice if they played both! Many SF players also play MVC, so I hope that melee players will play this, too.

They don't hate brawl because it's not Melee, they hate it because it's an awful competitive game at every level let alone at highest level play. As long as this one at least functions well at the higher levels it will be fine.

I'll be heading to the tournament for sure and lining up an hour or so early as well. I can't imagine this thing filling up. Then again...

Anyway how in the world can I show my Ridley support? Been asking around other sites but give me good slogan to slap on a T Shirt. Pro Ridley of course.

Nah, the people who prefer 64 don't endlessly bash Melee or Brawl. Melee fans have a very particular dislike of Brawl, and this new game seems to play mostly like Brawl. Just wait and see - there will be complains of no wavedash, low hit-stun, Brawl-like air dodge, grabbing the ledge while facing the other side, etc.

Brawl's competitiveness is crippled because of the terrible balance, actually, but Melee players don't seem to care because Melee itself is no Virtua Fighter.

There are usually recordings up later
Cool, thanks. Based on what you guys are saying I'm sure someone will upload it in the event that it isn't kept up.

Based on Nintendo Direct numbers, I'm sure there are a few hundred thousand Nintendo nerds who are going to want to watch this footage. It's not just going to go away.

Yea, I realize that, but I was saying that wouldn't really make sense. People would be able to play it themselves at Best Buy or talk about it privately with other people over the Internet. I highly doubt that would be a part of the terms for being invited.

Then there is the fact that some competitive players can maybe manage to play it on the showfloor and not the tournament. Not being able to share their opinion on the game is not something I would expect at all.

I can imagine that an hour early means you don't get in. You'd better go earlier if you wanna go!

64 players are just as bad as Melee players. They want 64 and nothing else :p

No one is going to "go nuts" at this invitational. Most Melee players game Brawl at least a year before deciding the game was unbalanced and boring. There's not a chance in hell anyone is going to bash the game after playing the demo for a day.

But I'm actually okay with this. People should play the game they like the most! But that's very different from endlessly bashing it and its community 6 years after release. It's dumb, childish and tiring. And in my experience 64 players mostly don't take part in this, because they obviously don't subscribe to the "Melee da bess" mentality :P

I'm not saying it'll happen at this event, but really soon we're going to be reading/hearing those complains I mentioned :P

Oops, I stand corrected.

She worked there before, right? Or maybe I'm mixing her with someone else, I guess I'm confused indeed, haha!

I was talking about that woman during one E3 that presented Nintendogs and... ehm, Wii Sport Resort, I think?

They might. They'll just have no credibility. Like you said, it'll be a while before we can pass actual judgment on smash 4.

Really? I'm not that optimistic. I'm sure there will be at least some negative reactions, even if they aren't fully sincere.

Negative reactions will get clicks, so there will inevitably be negative reactions.
