Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

No, in the Super Smash Bros. Direct Sakurai said "these figure into All-Star Mode, so I like to put in as many as possible" before showing the footage of Assist Trophies. That was an official translation from Nintendo, so I imagine it's not a mistranslation.

I'd like to have someone here who can translate japanese listen to the japanese audio and confirm.

I don't remember if a deeper consensous was reached, but I remember someone on NeoGaf trying to translate the Japanese Direct directly, and saying that 'all star mode' there meant something more along the lines of the overall all star battle that Smash encompasses.

Why would Nintendo's official translation be wrong? And I just listened to that part in the Japanese Direct, and while I'm not fluent enough in Japanese to fully translate what he's saying, you can definitely tell that he's talking about All-Star Mode.

Oh, I hadn't heard that. I dunno, that seems unlikely to me. Surely Nintendo Treehouse did the translation for the Direct, and they're also working on the transition of the game...they should know better than to mistranslate stuff like that.

I wrote an idea in one of the earlier threads involving Tingle that was based on the hiring system of Rosy Rupee Land where he'd have a rupee meter and could he'd summon helpers for his special attack but they'd only attack if he had the right amount. His basic attack would be the fight cloud which would suck in opponents and his helpers but leave him dizzy afterwards.

I don't consider his balloon a problem as he had one big balloon vs Villager's two.

interesting....
RIP AT thing

You know, today's PotD description was the second time in less than a week that Sakurai mentioned the Color TV-Game 15. Do you suppose he's going somewhere with this, given that he's hardly mentioned other Assist Trophies this much (that is, showing it in the Direct, showing it and giving two comments about it on Thursday, and now mentions it in yet another comment), especially recently?

As I think about it, I'm wondering if he's leading into Mr. Game & Watch news, seeing as he's giving this much attention to another 1970's Nintendo game.

All star battle makes more sense than all star mode.

He probably just thinks it's cool.

Yeah, it's not the kind of mistake I would expect them to make. I wish I knew enough to try and verify it myself.
All star battle makes more sense than all star mode.
But also that. If it were something about assist trophies and all star mode... or even just a confirmation of all star mode at all, it seems weird to throw it out there so nonchalantly.

G&W reveal tonight /hype mode

It means the Ultra Hand, Ultra Machine and Chiritorie are going to be items.

He probably just thinks it's cool.

Definitely a possibility; perhaps he had one as a child. I would certainly be in the same boat as far as excitement and interest in its presence as an Assist Trophy goes (I had been asking from the reveal day for a gif of that part of the Direct); I simply find it rather unusual that he's dedicated so much time to this AT over the other fan favorites (granted, this is my personal favorite AT).

Here's hoping for shuriken-like 1889 Hanafuda cards, or a stage based on Nintendo's World War II propaganda board game!

Edit: Whoops, the thread was moving fast enough where I thought someone would post in between this post and my post above. Sorry about that.

So my friend who literally lives down the street from me just got invited to E3. He's a top Brawl player. We were training partners for years.

He's going. He's watching the invitational live. He's playing Smash 4 for three days straight.

Lucky guy and love that gif lol

Pretty sure someone translated it and said it was a mistranslation on NOA/NOE's part.
EDIT:
I'm pretty certain the whole deal about Assist Trophies tying into All-Star Mode was a mistranslation. You can hear the quote in original Japanese here. My interpretation of it was that Assist Trophies are a part of the "All-Star" aspect of Smash Bros. If he was talking about All-Star Mode, he would have said just that. He doesn't mention the mode by name at all in the untranslated version. (My quick rough translation is: "Because of the All-Star aspect of Smash Bros, we wanted to include as many as possible.")

Someone more qualified than I am can probably further clarify, though.
I don't know who that is, but that's good news I guess.

SolidJake works for MLG. He focuses on Smash Bros for them. They will be in attendance at the Invitational. MLG and Nintendo talking can only mean good news for this event and Smash 4 being involved at future MLG events.

Is there any indication that MLG and Nintendo are talking though? Isn't everyone allowed to go to the invitational? He's not participating in it, he's just covering it. Like I could do that too if I brought a smartphone with me and stood in line to get in. I don't have to talk to Nintendo.

Unless I'm reading something wrong or missing something, this doesn't seem to indicate anything at all.

It looks like he's basically just saying "I'm the one that MLG is sending to cover this", which isn't really all that impressive. It would be like if RMC from Gonintendo or my friend who lives in California said "I'm going to see the Invitational! Check my tweets!"

Inspired by IntelliHeath's countdown GIFs, I just spent hours making 20 larger, non-animated countdown images of my own to share on Facebook, Twitter, and here, I guess...because HYPE. XD I'll post the first of the 20 tomorrow! THAT'S RIGHT, ONLY 20 DAYS UNTIL E3 TOMORROW! :O

I welcome more hype! :D

We got so many items and AT revealed already, it's hard to imagine we have many more. If we do, that's amazing and ultra kudos to sakurai and team. I think sacrificing SSE gave them a ton more time and resources to make the rest better, and it seems to show. SSE seemed like such a time drain for Brawl.

I hope to see between 40 to 50 assist trophies, 92 to 100 items, 45 to 50 pokemon. :D

Listening to GameXplain's video on Final Smashes:

"Toon Link's final Smash is lame and not relevant to the games. HOW ABOUT HAVING THE KING OF RED LIONS CAUSE A MASSIVE TIDAL WAVE?"

I don't know why I put up with this pain.

Yeah, that'd be really cool, I hate what they did with his Brawl FS. I think I'd be happiest with a Ballad of Gales cyclone though.

Those two white dudes commentating are trying to sound hype but instead sounded like they'd just seen a spider in their room and are screaming for their mum to come kill it.

Well I dunno about you, but I'm usually not excited to see spiders.

And those two white dudes are very excited.

The point I was trying to make is that a tidal wave caused by the King of Red Lions is as non-canonical to the games as a barrage of slashes powered by the Triforce.

Not really. I mean I know that he never does anything like that in the game, but at least oceans and KoRL are a major part of WW, as opposed to TL's current FS which is just lazy and awful.

But that's a way better idea than a cloned FS. Really, there's a ton of things that would make for a more interesting Final Smash that could be pulled from Wind Waker

They said it was non-canon in the video. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be neat, and is a much better fit for the character.
