Yakuza Ishin: No Plans For A Western Release. (1 Year To Develop)

Yakuza Ishin much like Yakuza 5, will not be coming to the west. A recent Sega interview with Gamingbolt reveled that there are no plans to bring the series outside of Japan.

In addition, the game took 1 year to develop and will not appear on the xbox one.

At this rate, I strongly recommend we all learn Japanese. :(

How much does it cost to make an English subtitle and release this world wide? I can't see how that wouldn't result in them making more money. With this mentality, Japanese studios won't survive for very long. The fact that they don't translate the game from the beginning is surprising enough.

Seriously anyone who expected it to go on the XBO needs to be slapped in the head.

Truthfully it would have been a perfect chance for Sega to revitalize the series and make actual $$$ towards localizing 5 and bringing the HD collection for 1 & 2 out. Then release digital copies of 3 & 4. Whoever is in charge of trying to come up with "roadmaps" needs to have his head checked and be chucked out.

No offence to the interviewer but those were some of the least interesting questions I have ever read.

I wish they would just do english subtitles while making the game. I would be willing to import it from japan at even double the price.

I really got into Yakuza a couple years back, and it sucks that I can't play 5 or Ishin.

Ishin would be nice of course, but 5 is where it's at. If only Sony would announce its localisation at E3, that would be perfect.

Am i the only guy who noticed this?

Yakuza is a name that is connected with Sony since the PlayStation One days. Almost every major game in the series has been an exclusive to the PlayStation platform so it was only obvious that Yakuza Ishin will make its way to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

What?

Come on. It's over and done with.

I dunno about that.

To quote Adam Boyes:

There was a massive amount of requests for all kinds of huge IPs that are big in Japan. And those are the ones we’re going after, based on the popularity of the requests… We get a ton of requests for Yakuza, a ton of requests for Shenmue. We see the lists. Like everything that people have tweeted Gio, literally we have a person that compiles those lists and prioritizes based on how many requests we’ve gotten. And I think to date there’s well over 10,000 mentions across like forum threads and stuff like that. So those are the ones we’re focused on.

Is it simply not worth it to translate the game and release it in the west? Or is this just an example bad business management by Sega?

bad biz management. since there is a way to chain it all together, but apparently they aint bright enough to do so.

just look at all the other "brilliant" moves they have been doing in the past.

Like last gen, I'm only interested in the Edo period spinoff, already kind of burned out from the modern yakuza after 2, so I never bought the new ones. Oh well.

I've accepted the series doesn't sell well outside of Japan... that said I do feel they missed an opportunity to localize this at a time when there would be little competition on the PS4.

But oh well.

Kinda suspected as much. It's a same, I really like the premise of the yakuza games.

not to mention just the sheer attach rate and folks are looking for other things to play.

Didn't Nagoshi himself said that both weren't coming last year? I like Yakuza and I bought every single one of them, but I have given up hope.

And there goes the "Atlus is going to localise the Yakuza games" theory...

They also have four Persona games to translate within the next year-ish as it is, which wasn't a known variable at the time of the Sega buyout when that theory was being floated. Obviously it's probably not going on simultaneously, but speaking from experience, having just one game on a translator's plate is bound to eat up a good chunk of time if you want them to take their time and make the localization shine, but four would definitely keep most any team of that size busy for quite some time, especially if Arena Ultimax in particular turns out to be as verbose as its predecessor. Short of doing a staff expansion, throwing another super wordy game like a Yakuza is probably expecting too much, no matter how good that translation team is.

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, save for the technical implementation of localizations, I'm pretty sure the bulk of localization work for Yakuza games has typically been outsourced since, Atlus aside, I don't think Sega has had a proper internal localization team for quite a number of years now based on what I read about how the previous main games were brought over into English. Of course you're free to ask at that point why they might not be exercising even that option if we're to (understandably!) take that response to really mean they're not working on it and it's not just a case of them not being ready to announce something, to which I would say I don't have any insight into any internal data or decision making going on there that's influencing this stuff.

It actually has nothing to do with Dead Souls losing money. But more of a not enough profit thing.

Sega had a major restructure where they said they will only be focussing on digital titles and titles that give them huge profit( Sonic,Total War..etc) . I guess Yakuza in the west wasn't one of those so they let it go.

I dont even see why people were assuming that Atlus would do the Yak titles. They got their own shit to take care of and them wasting resources on that which Sega could do perfectly well themselves would be wasting manpower which could be used on other money making IPs. Tying up a resource to do something you could do yourself isnt exactly the best idea.
