Yakuza Ishin: No Plans For A Western Release. (1 Year To Develop)

These people are releasing a Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA 2 in the West.

I don't know about you but I would have thought a gangster/mob/yakuza open world, violet game would sell more units then a kawaii niche music game. But hey this is sega. Still waiting on a Phantasy Star Online 2

"There are currently no plans at this time." is like the bog-standard PR response, doesn't really mean anything.

You don't announce that shit in an interview. There are always "no plans" right up until they announce something.

That said, it's SEGA, so I have zero faith anyhow.

Actually you would be surprised how many fans hatsune miku has vs. the Yakuza IP. And thats talking worldwide now.

Expected, but doesn't make this any less sad. I think our only hope at this point is that Sony steps in and localizes the games.

The story of RGG Ishin is like a ( ゚∀゚)o彡゚ USA!! USA!! type hollywood movies but for Japan. I'm okay even if it doesn't get a western release.

While I did buy all three Yakuza PS3 games myself, I understand that sales were miserable here in the US and it's likely not financially feasible to spend money and resources on localization anymore.

It feels like a kick in the junk for fans-- I was certainly disappointed when I learned that Yakuza 5 wasn't getting localized-- but there just isn't enough money in it.

I have fun with the two first games but lost the interest in the franchise because how poorly was handled in the west, too bad, Sega is a complete disaster, they ruin everything.

There goes my dream of getting Haruka as my Yamato Nadeshiko no Waifu.

It would have helped if Sega actually did some marketing.

Force your fucking Sonic/Hatsune Miku down our throat. But dont let us play your good games.

Thanks Sega for nothing.

Project Diva and Yakuza are both niche franchises in the West, so i'm happy Sega decided to release Project Diva in the West, so let's not shit on them for doing that. Couldn't care less about Sonic though.

I don't disagree, but I don't see things changing overnight if SEGA decided to change its mind and go full hog with Ishin-- marketing and all. Adding marketing to the package adds money spent, and if the game sells the same as or marginally better than the others, it's a sizable loss of cash.

Last I checked the "tales of" IP belongs to Bandai Namco.

I didn't say otherwise. Sony had a #JRPGVita campaign recently and ToIR was the most requested game by fans, so they made things happen. I believe Giocorsi's team exists for this reason.

Don't mind me though, I'm just a strong believer which usually leads me to being wrong.

Tales of Hearts R, not Innocence. ToIR is the game people are hoping will come over if Hearts R does well...

Oops, my mistake.

Yakuza is one of my favorite franchises, but i've given up on it coming to the US. I don't expect anything to really come from that Third Party Production team as far it goes.

You are correct.

I dont even see why people were assuming that Atlus would do the Yak titles. They got their own shit to take care of and them wasting resources on that which Sega could do perfectly well themselves would be wasting manpower which could be used on other money making IPs. Tying up a resource to do something you could do yourself isnt exactly the best idea.

That's more or less what I was trying to convey, yeah. I'm always bad at being concise. :)

But yeah, even assuming it was the case that Atlus USA had that much free time and resources on its hands, the numbers have probably already spoken over the years about how well a Yakuza title typically does versus Atlus' most popular fare and I wouldn't be at all surprised if at least post-Persona 4 there's a solid precedence for believing their stuff is a safer bet when it comes to a return on investment. I really enjoy Yakuza myself like a lot of other people here and have recently been playing through 5, but that sort of game is really daunting from a time and money perspective to do a good localization job for. If you commit to bringing that over, you better be expecting to pay your translators to be working on it nonstop for at least a few months and we get expensive fast!

Miku games absolutely pale in comparison to a Yakuza game in terms of what needs to be done to make it functional in English by virtue of content differences. Every localization takes time and effort, especially from a technical perspective, but we're talking about the difference in scope between a rhythm game and a 40-plus-hour RPG with a lot of optional side content that can potentially double or triple that amount. I'm pretty certain there are more foreign Miku fans than there are foreign Yakuza fans at this point, but even if that's the case, I imagine the sheer cost proposition of localizing a Miku game when there's a known demand for it and making a profit on it is much more assured thing by comparison.

What is up with that? Console software market in Japan is DYING right now, but Sega doesn't even want to bother making money - it's not like the PS4 is run over with games, they do have a chance for good sales.

Also to the post above about Project Diva, please never compare Yakuza and Project Diva. The latter is cheaper to localize with bigger profit potential. This comes up in every single Yakuza thread. :/

It's cuz we're butthurt about it. We want our Yakuza!

The series has been heading the wrong way since the first one but I still love it. Sega you are making me but there right now

So do I, I even have the JP version of Ishin which btw is totally awesome.

With games I love, if i import them, I'll always double dip. Did so for Tales, will do for SAO Vita and would do for Yakuza. Wouldn't even give it a second thought.
