Since Pac-Man will probably be revealed in a few weeks, Id like to touch on something that was brought up last month the mysterious Special Flag item.
I believe the Special Flag will merely be an Assist Trophy variant, and it wont be considered a separate item. It might even only show up when Pac-Man is in the fight. Sakurai likes giving us inconspicuous hints months in advance (boxing ring, Final Destination stage toggle, etc.), and I believe this is no different.

The big question: why?
After thinking it through, the answer is pretty obvious Pac-Man just doesnt have any plausible Assist Trophy options from his own series. Ms. Pac-Man is just a re-skinned Pac-Man, and the ghosts will probably be stage hazards or even a special move. Nobody cares about whatever enemies might have appeared in the recent Pac-Man games, and so it makes sense to instead include a couple of old Namco arcade sprites.
Yeah, but I really hope that it would led to Yashichi being assist trophy item for Capcom. Phoenix Wright, Zack & Wiki, Ryu, Haggar, Ammy, etc.
At long, he's there in the game. I would be okay with that.

This would be the coolest thing. And then they could have a Sega AT equivalent, too, and have characters like Billy Hatcher, Ai-Ai, Bayonetta, NiGHTS...

Nobody's ever heard of Steven Universe, and Adventure Time is good but it's not Game of Thrones. And I don't know about old ones, but the recent ones are just the goofiest crap.

I'd love to see Capcom, Sega, and Namco all get their own Assist Trophy type things, but we've already seen Elec Man as a regular AT. Moreover, the aliens were completely separate from the S Flag in the item listing, so I'm not willing to call them as related just yet, and I can't imagine why they wouldn't be on the list if the S Flag is indeed an AT alternate.
I'm really hoping we do get an explanation soon, though. There's a lot of possibilities and I don't see any of them as guarantees.

In the press package that contained all of the screenshots, the aliens and the S Flag were nowhere near each other, while the Assist Trophies were all grouped together.

Current is a bit of a stretch, ASoIaF is a few years older than Smash Bros itself, and even the most recent book came out years ago.
Also, we've done it before.
