Let's be honest, the Empire Online thing was really pretty shit. It wasn't just how bad the characters looked when put on their own in "full costume" on an unrelated background, it was how the entire campaign rolled out, and the attempt to make each cover reveal every hour something exciting and hype worthy. It was pretty embarrassing and did nothing to make me more excited for the film. But it also never meant that the movie was going to be shit. Studios spend many millions on marketing blockbusters, and a few of those campaigns are bound to be awful or stupid.

You can tell by those covers and the posters that they give almost no thought to promotional images. That's standare practice for most movies now though.

At least the Alternate Reality websites are good?

I hate junket click bait interviews.

"Would you like to be in The Avengers?"

"Sure."

"WOLVERINE IN AVENGERS? HUGH JACKMAN WANTS IN!"

Hugh Jackman wants in on the Avengers:

http://io9.com/hugh-jackman-wants-wolverine-in-the-avengers-which-is-1579998487

He should just boycott future movies and drag other actors/actresses with him to force Fox's hand.

Never happening. Fuck.
of course it won't happen but at the same time it again shows Hugh truly loves his character.

Totally wants to throw down with Hulk knowing his character loses.

Almost makes me regret hating on Jackman during X1 and X-2.

But why do they have to "adapt" it?? Is Singer ashamed of comic books?!
Well, most movie studios were before Singer came along. X1's art direction was appropriate for its time. Now we've got Sentinels and Iceman making ice slides and shit.

Singer still ahead of the curve.

Why did you hate on him?
I really didnt think he works well as Wolverine and to a degree i still don't.

However as of X3 I just had to accept that I would never see the Wolverine I wanted in movies and accepted Jackman's Wolverine just as I did Ultimate or any other non 616 Wolverine.

He's ahead of the curve
of a child's ass.

I'm sorry, I had to. I just hope he really didn't do it.

has anyone went to see a movie 1st thing in the morning on the day of its release?

this a big movie and I want to enjoy it in peace and dont feel like waiting until a few weeks later to go see it.

so: are there not a lot of people in the morning @ the theater or?

Theyre showing it at 9:30am tomorrow and would really like to go but hate going when its packed

I've been to a few and while it can get packed it's mostly old people from what I've seen, less teens and hardly any kids.

I went in at the O2 arena London in its first showing at around 11.30 am, it was like a 1/4th full and had a surprising amount of excited women.

I was ready to hate this movie but I cannot. It is truly great. X-Men is back. Tears of joy.

X2 > DoFP >>>>>>>> X1 = FC >>> X3 > XOW = TW

Nothing like getting out of the theater giddy thinking of all the possibilities to come. Only for making me feel like this again after 10 years, this movie was already worth it. (2 years until Apocalypse. =|).

I'm glad I watched this right after Godzilla. Nothing like an amazing movie such as DoFP to cleanse the rain of disappointing shit that other thing was.

What I write below is spoiler free as far as plot and surprises go, but it goes on more in depth about the movie. So if you want to be completely in the black, don't read it (but what are you even doing in this thread, then? =P)

JLaw was a huge mistake. Too bad we're stuck with her for the time being. No matter how hard she tries (or not tries) to put on a bad guy(girl) face, she still looks like a baby about to cry. It just makes all her scenes seem silly. I don't know if Rebecca would have been better (she was amazing saying nothing), but a good Mystique on par with Magneto/Xavier/Wolverine would have put this movie on another level.

Yes, many characters are there for special effects, but it doesn't really matter. They fulfill their roles in the movie and I consider their lack of development not a slight against it whatsoever at all. They're glorified extras to build up the main characters. Heck, I'm not sure if Blink said a word at all, but boy was she amazing. Storm has like one line, but her character has finally been made justice! The one thing I missed from the future cast having little presence is the pedantic one liners from Magneto (but it is understandable given the situation he's in). Fassbender tries, but he cannot pull it off like McKellen.

The pacing is faulty, it's been said already here and I agree. The movie gets a little boring right after the initial action. Exposition after exposition, it felt like it was never going to end. Then, gasp, comes Quicksilver to save the day and break away from the monotony. After that there's another brief down moment, but it felt like the ball started to roll again. But that's all in the first 30 minutes I think, so just the beginning.

As you see, if you want to be negative, you can dwell on all the flaws of the movie, but all the rest is so good it makes them seem irrelevant. The story makes sense. I can't think of a glaring plot hole. I don't see all the plot conveniences someone said it has (feel free to exemplify, maybe I ignored them). The characters of Charles, Magneto and Xavier are very well developed. Mystique would have been too, I mean, on paper, she's great, but JLaw (see above). The Future is well depicted, makes me want an entire movie set in it. The way they interconnect both universes is mostly well done, being the only glaring thing how Charles and Mystique relationship was rectonned, but they can't change that now until a total franchise reboot. Although, the connection has a lot of references that will probably go unnoticed to the average viewer. Future Sentinels looked good. Past Sentinels looked silly, but they were animated well. Magneto gets to be badass in both past and future, in all timelines -- forever badass. The team cooperation action in the future is great.

To conclude, I cannot (at least right now) think of a highlight from this movie, like this is the scene everyone will remember (well except for Quicksilver...). The movie is a sum of a many good little things, without anything terrible to the point it destroys the entire experience. I'm happy. It has restored my faith in Fox. I no longer desperately want Marvel to have the rights back. My opinion is biased, but I liked this better than The Winter Soldier.

I can only hope they don't the same shit again and fuck up the next one.

2 Magnetos in one movie and both get to be badass? This might turn out to be my favorite movie ever. Magneto's my favorite character in all of fiction.

Since it seems like the comparisons are starting...

The Winter Soldier was pretty good. Totally well executed, tight structure, and a neat story...but it didn't really hit me emotionally. It's a further step in the right direction for Marvel Studios, but I respect it more than I actively enjoy it.

I'll be pretty disappointed with DoFP if it's even close to the same level as that.

Absolutely loved this film.
Just one equestrian.

was a bit confused with the wolverine being saved by Mystique as Stryker at the end..?

Whoah, didn't know this movie was already out. Haven't even seen a trailer, probably for the best. Might go watch it at my local, although Wolfenstein is pretty awesome right now...

I mentioned plot conveniences.
The whole premise is pretty convenient. I mean most time travel stories are. They transfer consciousness through time but it breaks the brain, but a healing brain might survive? I can forgive that, especially if it were handled well and more naturally (ie instead of standing around and talking, have it play out a bit more first) - I get it, they want to set up the rules and get it out of the way to tell the real story, but there were a lot more of this kind tuff in this film.

Want to add some drama, requiring wolverine to actually convince prof X without mind-reading? Ok prof x doesn't have his powers. Which he conveniently gets back when the time arises, and by choice. Again, if more naturally played out perhaps not so bad, but I wasn't convinced that he was that "broken".

Talking to future prof x through wolverine? Again, awfully convenient.

Breaking magneto out - how do we do that? Wolverine: oh, hey I know a guy.

You know. And so on.

Just quite a lot for me. I still thought the movie was fine overall, but not great.
