GameStop seeing greater interest in Xbox One since price drop announcement

It's not a price drop. Don't get why the gaming press is so adamant about saying "price-drop". A price drop would be $399 WITH Kinect. This is just a competitive product placement.

Product placement is when you see iPads in a movie or TV show.

A new SKU (which is what this is) has always been referred to as a price drop.

I would be surprised if anybody pre-ordered the cheaper SKU until after e3, only a few weeks away. The XO has arguably more to gain from e3 than the PS4, so it makes sense to wait it out.

It wouldn't be this GameStop, would it?

You can buy new, unopened Xbox Ones with Kinect for $400 (or less, if you dig a bit) on Ebay right now, so if you're waiting for this deal, you don't have to.

aren't you all glad, Microsoft saw the errors, fixed them and seeing increase in sales, I know I am.

Honestly, you're asking us to celebrate the equivalent of someone finally learning to stop shoving knives in electrical sockets. We're all very glad they did it, but we're not going to throw them a party.

It's not like they patched a leak and the problems are now gone, they cut off the infected limbs. They still need some artificial replacements.

Our Target is been selling more Xbox in the last few visits that I've been in.
They had a few of both, next day 1 less PS4 and all Xbox gone. Today the Xbox were still gone and 2 more PS4 showed up.

It's certainly brought a positive buzz to the console.

It's bait for the company to make money. They close the door on older consoles by refusing trade-ins. It could be considered a fast paced market for them. Restock/Supply every 4-5 years with all new product. I think the only thing that stays the same is their slogan or logo. They probably know the market at the corporate level by now. $100 price cut is a good thing.

"Hey it's (insert name) from GameStop, calling to let you know that (robotic voice says the name of the game) will be arriving..."

^God I can't stand that whole thing. I guess it's okay, but I don't like how they insist on some recorded person give you her name, then proceed to tell you your preorder is ready for pickup.

Yep, I wouldn't even be surprised if it becomes $299. MS will get really desperate if this fails to change their trajectory. I'm still thinking Sony goes to $349 at e3 to steal their thunder.
They apparently just got to per-unit profitability. They'd be unwise to relinquish it so quickly just to teabag microsoft.

we'll see what happens when the June NPDs are released but given Titanfall and all the various sales couldn't help the Xbox One beat the PS4 I don't really expect much

I don't think he's trying to prove a point man, it's just a joke. Chill.

it's statham, this stuff is serious business to him

If interest wasn't greater then there would be something really wrong with the brand.

This has to last permanently though, this can't just be a 1-2 month thing.

I still want a deal for the kinectless one. $399 is good, but since I bought a titanfall bundle for that price back in April before having to sell it, I feel like I should wait for a price drop or black friday deal.

For me personally, I'll probably wait for the next hardware iteration before I pick up an Xbox One.

The prices drop is pushing me to get one this summer, but I'll first watch their E3 conference and then decide, but I have a feeling this E3 will force me into getting one.

With Titanfall come and gone I doubt we'll see XB1 moving enough units for anyone to really care. While it's certainly not a dead system it's hardly alive and thriving.

If it actually makes a success without Kinect it's just another nail in the original visions coffin. No one wanted the original XB1 and since the reveal Microsoft has done everything to distance itself from that vision. It's a really interesting thing to see a company do.

They havent price drop yet. They removed kinect.

Your forgetting that MS spent probably 100s of millions on kinect r& d and hardware which will now not be sold . I would have to imagine this is a pretty big loss that MS will have to absorb now . Can't see them cutting price again this year, when you have Bill gates on record that he would support spin off of xbox division. Also how much did they invest in Titan fall, which didn't sell nearly as many units as expected .

No, because we don't know yet how it'll actually affect sales numbers. Free TF plus price cuts was supposed to kill the PS4 yet the X1 ended up selling less on a weekly average. This is definitely a wait and see situation, it's too early to say one way or another

... in order to drop the price. The Xbox division cannot sustain another generation of extensive losses on the hardware. They're not holding back a separate price cut. The Xbone is failing in every market its released in. If they could slash the price to under the PS4 right now, they would. There isn't another price drop coming this year. Not a chance.

This. And it barely moved the needle. Time will tell, but it's possible this gamestop guy is doing some PR here. June NPDs will tell the tale.

It moved the needle alright. It moved it down.

They havent price drop yet. They removed kinect.

How is $499 to $399 not a price drop. SMH. This sounds like people saying the $599 to $499 for PS3 last gen wasn't a price drop.

If the price is cheaper then it is a price drop. Don't try to spin it or do pre-emptive damage control.
