GameStop seeing greater interest in Xbox One since price drop announcement

I would think the only way a retailer like that in Germany would accept more XB1 stock from MS is if they can price it lower than the already not-selling 399 euro XB1 with kinects and MS eats the additional mark down

So like a kinectless XB1 for 299 euro in Germany [or at least 349 euro] assuming MS values getting some marketshare at all in Germany

It is NOT a price problem in Europe. They could offer it for free and the PS4 would still come out victorious...

Yeah, Titanfall Bundle with Kinect is selling for 449 € on amazon.de and is most of the time not even in the Top 100 (but not that far away).

Maybe the E3 will change something when they offer some must have Games. HALO will move some consoles of course.

But I agree that MS has quiete a problem this generation in Europe.

A price reduction will also help but of course not to that point that they overtake the PS4.

I noticed a few hours after the announcement, I got an email from Walmart titled "Xbox 1 now $399". They don't mention Kinect in the title because nobody gives a fuck about Kinect.

You can split hairs all you want, but they didn't remove Kinect to give people options, they removed Kinect to lower the price. Up until last month, they wanted to pretend it was an irreplaceable component of the machine.

Feb
"[A Kinect-less Xbox One] is not in our plans at all," he stressed.

"As we've said from the very beginning, we believe Kinect is an absolutely integral part of the Xbox One experience."

April
“I always want to make sure that we're in tune with what current or potential customers are asking for from us. Right now, dropping Kinect is not the number one request from people. Usually it's, ‘Where are the great games?’ There are a number of games on the ID@Xbox programme that use Kinect, and you'll see more games in the fall.”

May
"We’ve heard that you want more choices from Xbox One. You want a wide variety of options in your games and entertainment experiences and you also want options in your hardware selection.

To be clear, as we introduce this new Xbox One console option, Kinect remains an important part of our vision. "

Also for being some thing they believe is so integrated they sure are waiting a long time to give people the option to have that experience.

"If you buy Xbox One for $399 and later decide you want to have all the experiences Kinect enables, we will also offer a standalone sensor for Xbox One later this fall. We’ll share more details about the standalone Kinect for Xbox One in the coming months."

I don't see how this is them just offering options when only a month ago before the announcement it was not a highly requested option.

i remember a long time ago when the ps3 dropped in price and it beat the 360 and the wii in one month in America, then it went back to normal right after(of course it did help it in the next years following, but not nearly enough to dethrone the wii or 360 in america). patience is key with these things

In a financial call?
What's he gonna say, "yeah, nobody is interested"? As long as SOMEBODY is interested of course he's going to talk it up as much as he can, even in a financial call. It's not like he'd be exposed as lying or anything, if it flops they could easily say "oh well, the early interest didn't translate to as many sales as we hoped."

Well of course they would. The thing is $100 cheaper. However I said this in the past and I still think it applies:

I fully expect an official pricecut to $450 or $399 at E3. While this is going to spur sales for a bit, I still believe there are fundamental problems MS need to solve to take advantage of such a move. Having a high tiered game to go would have been great, but they'll make do.

We will see what MS makes of this cut coming into the later parts of the year, but to be honest, I'm not certain MS is going to somehow pull close to the PS4 after this move. It'll be close in the US come the holiday season though.

I find it funny that people are acting like they aren't shocked that the price drop made difference since I don't think a price drop helped the wii u correct?

Wii U has far more problems than price. Even after the price drop, its arguably still too expensive unless you really, really want a console with last gen performance to play Nintendo games.

I think June will really be a barometer on what to expect from the Xbox Platform. If they outsell Sony by a margin greater than 50%, I expect them to steer the course, but if it inches by a cool 10-20k, I expect heads to be worried.

WiiU's biggest problem is price. Right now its a firm contender for a secondary console but not at its current price. Had they released it at a similar price to the Wii it would have sold way more.

Yeah, that premium bundle needed to be $299 at launch, MAX. Price isn't the only problem, but a lower price would have masked and/or reduced some of the other problems.

Of course price will help but at E3 they're going to show consumers why they need to buy an xbox. They have to blow the doors off and at least have 1 thing coming out in July ish. Announcing a price drop and not having anything interesting until September isn't gonna do it

From a BOM standpoint, if Nintendo went lower on price at launch they'd likely see much greater losses. They should've learned their lesson with the 3DS, the least used feature of a console shouldn't be the most expensive.

It's a joke, relax. You should expect them seeing as how Gamestop hyped up Wii U sales before the platform launched. If Blockbuster was still around I'm sure we'd see threads about "unprecedented" preorder numbers.

This is, at best, good heresay.

It's a pretty dumb joke. I gotta say.

I'm seeing PS4 on top in June, but not by more than 30k.

Summer months will not be indicative of the long term sales performance especially when there is plenty of room for manoeuvre on the price from both sides during the course of this generation. Xbox One will get a bump in June i'd expect/hope - considering how low their April sales were anyway.

I doubt that will put them ahead of Sony or even significantly in that month. Microsoft should be hoping the gap doesn't widen significantly over the summer, and then try and catch up over time with content and probably even pack in bundles (they always do a fall/spring double pack bundle, I think its possible they will consider putting Forza with every console come the holidays) before another price drop - probably $50 for each bundle happens in 2015 at some point

Yep, I wouldn't even be surprised if it becomes $299. MS will get really desperate if this fails to change their trajectory. I'm still thinking Sony goes to $349 at e3 to steal their thunder.

That would be a very interesting decision. If you read a lot of comments about the new Xbox One $399 SKU, a lot of people have said Microsoft released this price, nearly a month away from the actual date, so the media isn't reporting only on the price drop after E3 instead of games. This also gets a lot of people talking about the Xbox One now, and starts some momentum leading into E3.

If Sony came out and announced the PS4 for $349 at E3, it would be all over the news, and it would create at least equal, if not MORE momentum going into fall, considering they could wrap the $349 price around incredible world wide sales numbers. It could be THE top story from E3, and overshadow anything Microsoft reveals game wise. It would be very fun to watch.

It would be a megaton, but I don't see it happening yet. PS4 is selling loads as it is and Kaz has said its profitable, i'd expect them to bundle a game with it for $399 before they go and drop the price

The Last of Us Remastered is rumored for June.

$399 is just a better price point, big shock. Makes it easier to ignore its faults and the 360 was more popular in the US last gen.

I'm just going to wait for holiday deals. It's hard for me to buy now after I missed out on the $450 sales with stuff.

Yeah, this is also true. Not saying it's what they should have done from a financial standpoint considering the realities of the BOM, but from an adoption standpoint it had to be under the $300 psychological barrier. I think they will probably understand that moving forward.

I'd love to see a mid gen machine twice as powerful as the PS4 with optional gamepad support for off-TV play. By late 2016 something like that should be doable at $299 if they're smart. How well such a strategy would actually work for them is definitely questionable though.

No offence but this just hurts my head. How can you people think this? Lesser component with cheaper price. More component with higher price. If more component is with cheaper price, thats a price drop.
Titanfall bundle was a price drop.
50$ discount on 500$ bundle was a price drop.
Removing kinect and selling for cheaper is not a price drop.

That wasn't a price drop either, that was 'added value' + a discount (not permanent drop of MSRP).
