Sunset Overdrive Gameplay Footage [Up: Official Trailer released!]

A small glimpse of what appears to be a very basic/old HUD, found in one of the slides for Insomniac's R&D/Tools presentation. (Recommend checking it out btw!) I reckon this is not the HUD Microsoft found laughably bad.

Looks like a light hearted inFamous, which isn't a bad thing.

this to me is so infamous its ridiculous. also I want to play and I'm never going to buy an xboxone so lets hope we get a pc version or someday PS4. fucking developers changing platforms sucks. its funny cause I was stoked to get oblivian and masseffect but pissed when FF and metalgear went cross plat. oh well. I can wait, time for bound by flames and Wolfenstien!!!

Insomniac pitched this game to others before Microsoft. It may well be that they pitched to Sony before talking to MS.

That said, I have no problem with developers being able to choose the publisher that best suits their needs for a particular project. I think it would be a sad world if third party studios were locked in to only working with Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, EA, Activision or whoever.

yeah your right, wow my statement looks so much different cut like that I had to double take to realize I actually said that ha! No doubt, we dont want any restrictions on developers. I was just venting. to be honest feeling the way I do about the infamous similairities this game does fit the xboxone better. its just weird after all those Sony exclusives. I'll play it one day.
 
Ugh, no mini map on screen please.

I'd prefer an audible notification when I'm nearing something of interest..

I'd like the option to just turn it off and put waypoints in the world ala Assassin's Creed. I've been playing AC4 that way and it's much better looking at the world rather than focusing on the minimap when playing the game.
 
Watched that video in the middle of a Skype call while saying "I'm not sure about Sunset Overdrive yet" and that video is making it easier. Really like the HUD and pop-ups, looking forward to seeing the next video with the character customization.
 
Note the HUD probably will be changing even more, but figured we needed to show the style meter a bit as it currently stands

Soooo the little currency ticker at the bottom of the screen confirms item/weapon shops then?

and the AMP recipe thing sounds like there's gonna be crafting.

Gah, the HUD is far too busy and much bigger than I was expecting. Needs to be transparent and a lot smaller. There's really no reason the overdrive meter to be that big.

And while I do like the screen cracked effect used for the mini map, please give us the option to turn it off completely.
 
HUD looks nice. Fits with the style of game/doesn't look out of place. Agree with some that it could be smaller though. And options enabling us to customize or turn it off completely would be welcome too.
 
So is there going to be a collector's edition? That's the only thing I'm waiting to hear about before I preorder it.
 
Fizzie tweeted back at me about a masturbating pun on the website. That alone would have made me want to pre-order the game had I not purchased a Xbox One with this title in mind.

Purchased an Xbox in March. This will probably end up being the first game I play on it. Can't wait to see where this IP goes.

So you were mad that PS exclusives went multi-plat, but happy that formerly non-PS exclusives went multi-plat? You realize that's just a bit ridiculous itself, right?
 
Have they said much about the soundtrack for this game? Are they gonna use any licensed music?
I can imagine something similar to the Crazy Taxi soundtrack going well with these visuals.

i know wat you mean. very frustrating i want to play deedrisings3 on my playstation4 and get pissed when i cant. oh well i can wait and play transistors and watch dog!!!

Definitely needs to be transparent (or at least an option to be transparent). My VT65 plasma is pretty immune to IR but this might just take it over the edge :/
 
Can't believe I totally missed this one until now. Really digging the art style, it does really look very pleasing to the eye.
 
I really like what we've seen so far, so the initial impression was very positive, but I'd love to see a bit more depth and structure next. Is the game challenging? I'm not one of those gamers who relish in just wreaking havoc, being an overpowered force in a fully sandbox world. I need a purpose, variety, challenging obstacles to overcome. Is Sunset Overdrive going to deliver that? Hopefully we'll get to know more about the characters at E3.

Sounds pretty cool.
Def getting a crazy taxi sort of vibe (obviously not in terms of gameplay).
Just think it's the art style and colour.
