Quicksilver was a literal 10/10. The few scenes with him were fantastic and I had a huge grin the entire time. Hope there's more of him in the next film.

The only question I wanted answered was how Prof X gets his body back. Interviews say it is explained in this movie, but did I miss it? I need something a little more than the ending of X3 and Wolverine.

DO you think Quicksilver in Avengers will have a tough bar to reach? That is, will be just rag on him because he's NOT X-men quicksilver?

I'm happy that they made this one so badass so that they will be forced to make him at least as cool or even better in Avengers.

I think there will definitely be comparisons. It's unavoidable. But Avengers 2 having both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch already changes the dynamic a lot, so it'll depend largely on how it is scripted. With DOFP the focus was entirely on showcasing the sort of person he is, the infinite possibilities of his powers, and how it defines his lifestyle and personality.

Considering the teaser at the end of Winter Soldier, I think that the Avengers 2 take on the characters will be a darker route, with more emphasis on the sibling bond, and how they survived together through all their hardships.

Absolutely incredible.

This is a contender for greatest superhero movie of all-time, it really is.

Just... WOW! I like that there really wasn't all that much action in this, and it focused more on the characters and their relationships.

God damn I am impressed.

I think the bar Whedon needs to worry about clearing is the depiction of Quicksilver's speed. This film did something special that really made you appreciate the extent of his abilities.

I'm back from the FYUCHAH, and the FYUCHAH is safe. ;_; Thank you Singer. Not X2 quality, but we are back on track.

Seeing this tomorrow, am shocked at all the love it's getting. The trailers have done nothing for me. Trying to get in a x men mood just finished watching First Class, haven't seen it since it came out. It holds up really well but man there is some shitty cg and dialoge in that flick, but the stuff that work works really well.

About to start X2. Excited for it.

It's crazy to read a post like this after all the hate the character got for his look.

Can't wait to see this movie.

Brief thoughts:

I never thought I'd see the day that there was a likable Quicksilver rendition. His scenes were probably my favorite in the whole movie, and people were cracking up.

I thought the whole movie was pretty awesome, though it was getting pretty late by the time it finished. I continue to be a Jennifer Lawrence fan.

Overall, likely my favorite movie thus far this year.

Typing this on my phone.

Just got back, I think this may be my new favorite X-Men film. If not, then X2 is ahead of it but not by too much. Holy shit is J-Law awful in this. She was fine in action, the action in this film is great after all, but every time she opened her mouth..

She is most likely alive at the end of the film, please tell me we get Becca back since it's the future/present. No more J-Law Mystique please.

I enjoyed the film, it hit all the right beats for me, and nails most of what it goes for. There are a few eye roll inducing moments, and some plot convenience but it's forgivable since since the payoff is great. Humor is there, and I really enjoyed them having some fun with the lore of these films through the dialogue. There are a few QS lines in the film that should get some chuckles. A2 QS has his work cut out for him!

I really liked the contrast between the past and future scenes, really well done.
The climax of the film is sooooooo good, they flowed really well together. This is time travel done right.
Singer fucking nails it here, and directing X-Men films is his thing - never shall I doubt him again. I also welcome Ottoman's theme back with open arms. This absolutely surpassed my expectations, so I'm really excited for the next film.

I've decided.

X2>>>DOFP>>>>X1=FC>>>TW>>>>>>>>X3>>>>>>>>>>>>Lolrigins

Will post more thoughts later, I'm a bit tired.

Review

This isn't a perfect movie. X1, X2, and First Class weren't perfect movies, either. With that said, there's going to be a lot of arguing over which one of the top three (X2, FC, and now DOFP) is the best. For me, I loved X2, but parts of it (Jean's "death" at the end in particular) just fell flat to me. Because of that, I think DOFP is my favorite.

If you liked X2, you'll like DOFP. If you liked First Class, whether you like DOFP depends on what you liked about FC. Like it or not, the reality is that a sequel was never going to have the same frenetic energy as a "this is how they started" flick with all its subtle nods and winks to the audience. What DOFP does is take the actors you liked from FC and the same general setting (retro 60's/70's) and mix it with the kind of storyline Singer did best in X1 and X2.

There were a lot (like, a whole lot) or clever references, nods, and moments peppered throughout a movie that has several quite amazing action set pieces. The future parts of the movie have an almost-suffocating amount of dread and tension, as you know this is truly it. Most of humanity and pretty much all of the mutants rest on what happens. The future Sentinels are some downright scary motherfuckers, just human enough to cause a terrifying uncanny valley effect - somewhat like the T-1000 from Terminator 2. Only now, there's a whole army of them, and they can do way more than the T-1000 ever did. The brutality they spread shocked me considering DOFP is a PG-13 movie.

Some of the past stuff is a little hitchy at parts, and while I don't hate her, resting so much of the film on Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique will probably be the biggest knock against the film. Quicksilver's big scene might actually be the highlight of the movie - there's going to be a lot of crow served. I really hope Evan Peters comes back for the next one, and considering how much he enjoyed chewing the scenery that seems likely if they find a story use for him.

Slight Quicksilver spoilers:

They do imply that Magneto is his father, which was a slight worry I had. Them being connected opens up a lot more interesting story options.

Music spoilers:

The slight callbacks to the X2 theme in the opening sequence, and the full thing in the end credits, was such a fantastic touch. I doubt most people seeing the movie will even realize it other than on a subconscious "this is an X-Men movie!" level.

Very slight ending spoilers:

Needless to say the ending left a smile on my face. It felt like... warmth. So many blockbusters and superhero movies don't have that. The only one I can say had it on display is Spider-Man 2. It felt good in a way like... entering a cafe you had visited a long time ago and smelling the cookies that brightened your rainy day back then.

The post-credits scene is nothing that special, and I really question the decision to release the title of the next movie before it was even able to surprise people. If you know the name of the sequel, you can pretty much guess what the scene is about.
It's probably around 30 seconds with no dialogue, so don't get hyped for it too much.

Summary: If you liked X2, you're probably going to have a little internal struggle over whether DOFP is better. If you like First Class, that debate will be much more involved. In short, though, X-Men is officially back, and the future has never looked brighter - not even after X2.

Great action, fantastic actors, good story, great music, and a permeating sense of tension (and in the future segments, dread.)

One more thing, SPOILER WARNING regarding something in a the previous X-Men movie:

I was wondering how they would explain Professor X going from being exploded to stealing a comatose person's body to being in his own body again. But if I'm interpreting it correctly, X3 (or was it X2, whichever Professor X exploded in) was basically considered non-canon/ignored for this movie? If so I'm fine with that. :P

Seriously. We got the X2 writers back on board for the next film. If it turns out that Singer did what he's accused of and we get stuck with some asshole like Vaughn directing, I'm gonna be pissed.

Xavier placed his mind inside of his braindead twin brother. It was shown at the end of X3.

Who's lead on writing though? Isn't it still Simon Kinberg?
Knowing that Singer brought those two on especially, it seems like all three will get a screenwriter credit, as opposed to contributory credits. My guess is that the last drafts will be handled by Dougherty and Harris. It's pretty much guaranteed given how much Kinberg currently has on his plate between Star Wars and The Fantastic Four.

Finally, a sequel to X2. A damn good return to form. Great send off for the original cast and crew, and sets things up with an almost clean slate for the First Class crew.

I left the theater with a big grin on my face. Once the credits fired up and were blasting Ottman's X Men theme I was so happy.

Second best of the series, with X2 still holding the crown. The only thing holding it back was the lack of a strong central villain like Stryker was in X2.

I really want to go see this again, because that was so damn good.

They actually show clips from X3 when Xavier looks inside Logan's mind. X3 is canon, sort of.

But, regarding that:

Didn't his brother look different, despite being a twin? Yet future Xavier looks exactly the same. Or am I just remembering incorrectly?

Yet more thoughts on Days of Future Past:
* I didn't recognize the precise theme, but I think I did catch the really awesome X-Men theme in the credits that is probably what people are referring to.
* Regarding "warmth", I think that was one thing I liked a lot about this movie thematically. I don't think it's a spoiler but I'm being safe. General theme:
Instead of focusing on a particular villain like a lot of superhero movies do, it focused on what people can do working together, and trying to keep hope alive.

Movie was amazing! Finally, the sequel that X2 deserved.

Honestly, probably the best super-hero flick in years, this was the real deal. Incredibly well put together, and perfectly captured the spirit of the X-Men.

I could go on, and probably nitpick a few things here and there, but god damn, fuckin' X-Men!

Quicksilver was indeed awesome. I wanted more of him!

Also, Blink! No dialog, but awesome nonetheless.

oh man y'all making this wait til saturday too hard for me right now.
It is the real fucking deal. Between this, X1 and X2, I don't think there's a single filmmaker out there who gets a comic book universe the way Singer does X-Men.

I love this movie more than I did Captain America 2. Which is saying a lot, cause that movie was my number 1 so far this year. Best X-men movie yet.

so Jean and Scott are back
but they're not making another X-men movie with the old cast. So people like McKellen and Stewart are not coming back? :(

Only First Class cast from now on?

Seen it last night.

Amazing, Singer nailed it. Plot, pacing, characters and action. Oh, and good luck to Whedon with his portrayal of Quicksilver, cause holy shit this one's hard to top.

One question regarding Wolvie:

At the end of the last "Wolverine" movie, he has bone claws again after the Silver Samurai incident.

At the beginning of this movie, in the future timeline, he has Adamantium claws again. How come?

Largely because The Wolverine doesn't actually mean shit to this films continuity. The teaser at the end of The Wolverine is more like an advert for DofP than canon.

crazy at the turnaround on quicksilver. i already have my doubts on the avengers one being that good because of taylor johnson's boring ass but now the singer one is actually....great? making it an even bigger uphill climb
