Yeah, I was one of the nonbelievers... but I'll eat some crow. Movie's great. My enjoyment largely came at the first half, though. I merely liked it after the first 45 minutes or so. Wasn't kinetic enough for me - but that's my personal preference for summer movie super hero films. What was presented is great.

Everything I assumed would be horrible/a clusterfuck largely worked: Sentinels, Quicksilver, the ensemble, J Law, the action choreography - it's all largely great. My only real complaint is that I thought Quick was underutilized. I doubt I'm unique in regards to that one.

Hopefully, Singer doesn't get canned for Apocalypse. This is the best cinematography I've personally seen from him.

I have no idea what to make of the post-credits scene. Someone fill me in.

Rises wasn't worse than Spidey 3, but I didn't find it all that great. In fact, my favorite thing about the movie was Bane and his goofy voice. They found a way to abruptly ruin that at the end.

They capped off the trilogy really well at the end though.

That could work. But I think they will try and tone back the action scenes for Professor and Magneto.

Let Cyclops be in charge of the team, and have... Quicksilver or Mystique be in charge of the Brotherhood team. While Professor and Magneto stay behind as the head figure.

I want the original core team back, i would have even had them do a DOFP years earlier :-/. If the writing was stellar and not like X:OW we could have had 2-3 quality X-Men movies since X3.

We won't be able to find a better cast than the original ensemble. But the reality (for me at least) is they are all getting too old to play the characters.

Number of reasons for that RT score but mostly it was not a bad as people were fearing. Critics remember the last 4 Xmen related films, and even though First Class was good, the majority of them lately have been bad. The other factor for the scores was the cast, which is incredible. Lots of big actors in there, some now huge stars in their own right, and some critics who would crap on a comic book movie may be entertained. I found a few reviewers on RT who loved this movie, yet crapped on The Winter Soldier. Which is jive talking crazy.

DOFP was fucking godlike! FINALLY a god damn sequel to X MEN 2!!!

God damn I missed some good X Men movies. No diss against First Class I rather enjoyed it but DOFP is truly X Men 2 tier. This is the grandest of all the X Men movies but was also thematically very potent. There actually wasn't as much spectacle as I thought it would have but what was presented was excellent and well directed.

Singer makes good X men movies... period. If we count the X Men movies as just the Singer trilogy then it's comparable to the Nolan Batman trilogies. Sadly all those other X men movies really bring down the quality of the franchise.

The best part of this movie is that it officially wipes out the mess of X Men 3 and starts the X Men franchise fresh. I will be sad to see Fassbender/McAvoy not come back (except for small flashback scenes I presume) but I like them resetting the franchise this way. This is really the best thing to happen to the franchise.

My only faults with the movie were that there were a lot of legitimate inconsistencies and plot holes due to the nature of the franchise. It was unavoidable and Singer really did the best with what he had but it's still disappointing to see that the franchise prior to DOFP was in such a big mess. So yea if you were like me and watched all of the X Men movies like a crazy fan you will probably be going "but wait I thought that happened in that X Men movie and that wouldn't have been possible in this timeline". Minor nitpick.

Hmm. I thought I was shitting on Quicksilver's look on here as well. Maybe I was keeping that to myself. I have always been excited about Singer returning, but was still cautiously optimistic about the film because it was a big thing to tackle. Combining both old and new casts, and adapting one of the most beloved X stories ever. Every still released looked like ass, but every video released looked great. I kept getting hyped, but kept trying to temper it because I was burned too many times. But damn, did Singer deliver in the end. And thank God.

Saw this earlier today. It was really good. I did not expect that coming in, especially with all of the Carl's Jr commercials. Shit got straight up brutal and it was amazing. Only two minor complaints that I could think of was Blink's underused powers.

I think Whedon will get more depth of personality out of the character, especially through the sibling dynamic. But damn, does he have his work cut out for him in matching the visual representation of his powers.

Loved this very much. It really tore my expectations and was its own movie. I thought this was going to be a "me too" avengers movie but it really took its time and paid off nicely.

A few thoughts:

- wolverine still gets shafted on screen
- I really dislike Jennifer Lawrence. The only time I was pulled out of the movie was when she appeared. She's just awful
- it appears to me, righty or wrongly, that Fox really trusted Singer with this because it just didnt seem set up as a traditional blockbuster. I thought it was a really brave movie and really leaned in on characters that have been written well over the years and characters we get behind.

Good stuff ultimately.

And I hope they keep trusting Singer. I hope this movie makes a TON of money.
