It's the new generation. We're finally not limited by console hardware (to an extent anyway).

That's not being translated into better graphics though, not yet atleast. As someone else pointed out, Titanfall, CoD, Wolfenstein and Watch Dogs are the biggest resource hogs and apart from Wolfenstein at points, they are pretty ugly games.

This is my personal opinion, I just feel that TXAA blurs way too much, even more than FXAA. FXAA accomplishes the same thing with less blurred edges. I don't know, I was just looking at screens, trying to find what I mean. I remember seeing an image of a fence, and when compared to FXAA, TXAA was extremely blurry and turned me off using it.

EDIT: FOUND IT! I find that FXAA has "cleaner" edges.

It has worse edges in motion. By far.

No, The dual core Pentium D only came out a few months earlier than the 360 and the C2D only came out the next year.

The C2D lasted well into last generation, only in the last 2-3 years have you really needed to upgrade to an i3 or higher.

GTA4 was released in December 2008, 5 and a half years ago, and performance on dual core CPUs was seriously lacking. It only went downhill from there.

I'm running everything on ultra except shadows, man they were killing performance, switched to high and it's smooth now. Running txaa as well.

I think people are jumping the shark with the "performance is terrible" posts. It's not even street date so you might not even have a possible day-1 patch or new Nvidia or AMD drivers to optimize better. If it comes out and it still performs like this then I think it would be a cause for concern, but canceling pre-orders for something we don't even have full info for is weird to me. Like, why'd you even pre-order in the first place if the slightest uncertainty could make you kneejerk and cancel it?

Do you have any overclock on your cpu or is it stock speed?

I have hope now that I will be able to get the same results as our pc's are almost identical.

I know this is heresy, but it's times like these (and many others), when after spending thousands of dollars on hardware, and unoptimised trash refuses to run at an acceptable/or at an enjoyable level, I'd just prefer to play it on a console.

There's people here with hardware that costs more than my car (My own rig was $2400 in August 2012), that are experiencing shocking performance issues. But as you said, majorly criticising Watch_Dogs is premature. This issue isn't exclusive to Watch_dogs however.

I should be able to play it at good settings unless CPU bottlenecks my video card. I suffer from this in ARMA 3/ DayZ heavily. What do you think?

Oh god im fearing Tuesday now, pretty sure my rig is going to tank while trying to play this game.

Anyone have impressions for something similar to:

2500k @ 4.8ghz
GTX 770 2GB (am cry)
8gb DDR3 1600mhz
250gb SSD

Sometimes getting pretty awful slowdown indoors on similar rig (i5-3570 without overclocking, gtx770 2gb, 8gb DDR3, 128 ssd), don't know what causing it. Fluctuating fps from 60 to 15-20 is not very pleasing to eyes = all settings on ultra, textures - high, temporal SMAA, 1080p.

Any with an 8 core cpu playing this? Wondering because the recommended requirements says you need an 8 core and I find it hard to believe this game utilizes that.

So I hate to add to the list of "can I run this", but I'm starting to get worried now since I was deciding whether or not to get the PC or PS4 version.

My specs are:
Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell 3.5GHz
EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 760 2GB(lmao)
16GB RAM (DDR3)

I don't care about FPS much as long as it doesn't go below 30 often, I'm more interested in visuals since the PS4 version is also an option for me. Is this game going to run like ass for me?

So how fucked am I in getting to 60fps with an i5 2500k (stock), GTX 670 and 8 GBs of RAM ? I place framerate over graphics so I don't mind turning things down, I just don't fancy playing on LOW :p

It's stock. As for fps, haven't checked yet, feels anywhere from 30 to 50. Running the newest beta driver too.

Same boat here. Originally thought my 3570k@4.0ghz, 7970ghz edition and 16gb DDR3 would make this look and play way better than the PS4, but I'm really not interested in screwing around with settings too much if it's going to stutter or FPSdrop a heap.

I'm pretty OCD with changing settings if I even think I could get better performance/looks and tend to not enjoy the game as much as I would if I could just set and forget.

Okay, so been playing for about an hour.

Humble rig:
i5 4570 @ 3,2
HD 7870 GHz 2GB @ stock
16GB DDR3
installed on SSD

Everything on Medium, MHBAO, DoF on, Motion Blur on, FXAA, High textures @ 1080p. Getting about 45-60fps outside, steady 60 inside.

Only problem I have is tearing in the upper screen half, can't get it fixed without enabling vsync ingame which totally destroys the performance I'm getting.

Are you my lost brother?

changing settings on games is like a disease to me, that's why sometimes I prefer to game consoles, because most of the time I don't finish the games on PC due to not being able to get the highest shadow or better AA solution, I'm a shame :(

Can't wait to see what my beasty machine, i5 4570 and GTX 750 Ti, will conjure.

Probably something terrible.

I coulda sworn Toms and Anand did articles about PC hardware myths such as VRAM. It was concluded 2GB was enough for 1080p with good post-processing.
h

That conclusion was only reached because they were testing games using engines built around 8 year old console hardware. It was clear as day that 2GB wouldn't be enough once Sony made their 8GB GDDR5 announcement.

If a $400 console that's already turning a profit can afford to include 8GB of GDDR5 then a $350 GPU using a 2 year old midrange chip can include at least 4GB.

To preorder now and be on some hype train, or wait for release, performance issues to blow out globally and then decide with +14% price. Decisions.

Of course, because developers make games based on the fact that some gamers are still using 4GB RAM. It's a constraint.

Well the way they were talking was that it was impossibru to even launch.

I'll finally do a complete system overhaul next year, but I think for the most part, my paltry 4GB will carry me fine in the majority of games this year.

I've got a rock solid 30fps at 1080p, with SSAA, LOD at medium, and everything else set to ultra. I should knock it down to 900p and everything lowered to High to see what kind of performance I get at PS4 settings.

Sorry if this has already been answered, I'm trying to go through the thread as much as i can.

Do we know what kind of performance we can expect at the recommended specs? Similar to the Next gen consoles?

The recommended specs are about where my PC is, and worried about all the stuttering being mentioned. Thinking maybe i should go PS4 and not worry about it... >_>

Stutters on my rig. Mainly notice it when driving and especially when hes talking on the phone. Not sure if its frame skipping or frame drops.

2600K at 4.5Ghz , 8gb ram and a Titan.

Regardless of whether I disable DOF, Motion Blur , set textures to medium and rest on high from Ultra, makes no odds.

Throws the VRAM theory out the window, ive 6GBs of the stuff and it dont help.

PS4 version next week it is.

Wait, so to the dirty pirates out there, i have a burning question for you: On the absolute maximum settings, how does it compare to the E3 2012 demo?

My 780 Ti wants to know.

Wait to see if drivers or a patch will come out before you award Ubisoft with another purchase jeez

it will run at a higher framerate, higher resolution, with higher details than the PS4 version

It's pretty much the same as ps4 footage with better little things.

2012 watch dogs probably by the 3rd game tbh.

Anyone find any settings that actually change performance? Most of the things barely change the framrate on low or ultra.

AA and sbao seems to be the big things, hearing shadows too?

My 3570k is about always 99-100% when this is playing, which is kinda scary.

As far as I'm aware, it's currently possible to play this legitimately on the PC. I probably wouldn't throw around accusations, as I think people have gotten in trouble before, doing the same thing.

starting to get worried my 2500k is gonna get dominated. its at 4.5 but people saying this game is using 100% of their cpu makes me feel like im gonna see a huge bottleneck with my 780ti.

With texture work like that, I wonder why they bothered to give us an interior camera at all.

I'll never use it but it's a nice option to have. Better give people choice I always say. Also, can't think of any other open world game that allows for that so it's pretty neat.

THat being said, does this game look a lot better in motion because so far the screens look... Middling.
