Awww, but the thrill of buying games is far better than any amusement park...[/SPOILER]

It's not better than Roller Coaster Tycoon!

If all else fails, we have an unofficial confirmation that No One Lives Forever and its sequel are due for announcement. That should have people excited.

I'm tentatively excited, but after the Grim Fandango tease turned into a fat sack of nothing I'm reserving any commitment until we've got something concrete.

Did somebody say 'tease'?

We just picked up a box copy of System Shock and it still had the order form for other Origin games in the box! Gave us an idea...what would happen if we charged $79.95 for the re-release?

Enjoy the scan

Oh, wonderful: https://twitter.com/deepsilver/status/464043624670707712

I'm losing interest in GOG, fast. It's been a vast wasteland for well over a month now, and they're failing to get games that make nothing but complete sense for them to get alongside Steam.

I should probably look into the game you're quoting before typing this, but isn't it Good OLD Games? Meaning they don't get new releases while they're new?

They have a good amount of modern games, mostly indie games. One big issue is developers using steamworks and that usually means it can't be released on GOG without being reworked. They rebranded a while ago to just "GOG" and not "Good Old Games"

KILLER IS DEAD is a weird case because the publisher recently started releasing games on GOG and it doesn't have multiplayer, it seems like a perfect candidate for the service like Deadly Premonition was.

They're just GOG now. They still favour old games more than most DD services, but they've got a large range of recent releases now.

I'm sad to say that I expect to see Chronology appear in a bundle in the near future which is why I'm waiting on getting it but otherwise it looks like a fun platformer.

Fuck yeah, Megarace.

Obscure voice actor fun: The guy who plays Lance Boyle is also the voice of the Grobo (elephant) race from Little Big Adventure.

There was a time when I could recite that entire opening monologue from the first game. Glorious.

Edit: Gosh, he's also The Demon from The Dark Sorceror, the Quantic Dream demo from last year. He gets around!

How good are the first two games, mclem? I think they're playable in DOSBox.

The first two megaraces? Kind of okay, but very much 'showcases of CDRom' rather than 'good games', I'd say. On a par with Rebel Assault, perhaps. Lance is a *lot* of fun, though, and absolutely nails the part; probably the best character realised by FMV until I discovered Tex Murphy.

I love you so much GOG, but where is the recent update for The Pit? It was released a week ago and Steam had it up right away. Is it normal for GOG to take over a week to post up new game updates?

MegaRace 2 is still neat, 1 hasnt aged well and probably needs numpad to be controlled?

I got Dragon Lore as well, for nostalgia, though I never played it as a kid. It's... interesting.

At these prices I don't regret anything, I just want more sales!

Three games added to the list this week, as I spent some time working/revising the layout for the new monthly threads which will start next week, for June.

Anyway, on to the recaps for these three games. First up, FRACT OSC, which was previously on hold waiting for some more impressions that it now has. It definitely seems to have more of a targeted audience than your typical game, but it's not overly long, people have very positive impressions of the integration of the music and puzzles, and the visuals of the game are a really strong point. So if you're looking for a puzzle game that is a little different, or like music focused games, definitely give this a look. It even has a studio portion to it, if you want to start making your own music from the sounds of it.

Blackwell Epiphany is next, another game previously mentioned needing more impressions no longer. Turns out to be the strongest entry of the series, which is nice since it is also the conclusion. Dave Gilbert really impresses people with the writing in the game as well. It's not a series you'd play out of order, so you'd want to pick up the Blackwell Bundle if you're interested now that the series is complete. While being a well-liked series, there's still occasionally some people with reservations about it, as the final quote above highlights. Overall though, if you like adventure games, this is one series that should be on your short-list.

The third entry is an older title, and very much a classic, Riven: The Sequel to Myst. Perhaps the best adventure game ever made? Certainly up there either way, Riven takes Myst's formula and expands/improves it with better puzzles that are even more a part of the (better) world you're exploring, and I think there's not a single person who didn't find the game amazing. Of course, it's not exactly the gaming experience we're accustomed to these days, and you'll definitely want to avoid the temptation to look up a FAQ when stuck, because none of the puzzles are at all unfair and everything is immensely rewarding when you do solve it (spare for the occasional overlooked path/door, maybe there's a spoiler-free FAQ). That most likely means getting a notepad and a pencil, and immersing yourself in the world.

Lastly, the games that didn't make the cut (Bad Mojo Redux still needs to be checked, otherwise all caught up again):
- The Last Federation (almost made it but not quite enough impressions)
- Sir, You Are Being Hunted (almost made it but not quite enough impressions)
- Chronology (didn't make the cut, not enough impressions)
- Vertical Drop Heroes HD (didn't make the cut, not enough impressions)
- Always Sometimes Monsters (not enough impressions, revisit in a few weeks)
- Last Door: Collector's Edition (not enough impressions, revisit in a few weeks)

One more week until the monthly thread transition! The new OP will be a bit lighter (less scrolling) and nicer. I'm looking forward to the new monthly format now that I have things in order more or less. :)

According to the developer, they did send it to GOG.

There's a thread on GOG's forums about it, someone posted that a prior patch for The Pit took GOG ~2 weeks to filter through as well, so we're within the timeframe from before, as long as it shows up sometime in the next week or so. There was also mention that GOG does pretty exhaustive testing of any submitted patches (to which I say, lol), and that is perhaps the reason why there's a delay. On Steam, there's no testing done, so patches launch instantly. I'm not sure I buy that explanation, but it sounds like another week or two at worst.

As far as I know, all their stuff gets brought up to date eventually, I'm not aware of any games with properly released patches that GOG refused to implement... I guess it's just annoying it takes longer, when you're dealing with newer games that get patched quite a bit more than the 10-year old or older ones.

Paper Sorcerer added to GOG today, looks like it's fairly new (2013) and a heavily stylized RPG that is a turn-based dungeon crawler and is likened to Wizardry going by the sole review up on GOG.

Worth noting that it's basically a Wizardry IV fan game. Not as sadistically hard as Return of Werdna, obviously, but still, more of a 'summon monsters to fight for you' game than 'delve deep into dungeon with your created party and die' one.

Yep, it's Simcity 4 DX! And it's 75% off for the first 72 hours! (EDIT: Ignore what was previously in these parentheses, I didn't realize Steam was running a 50% off sale on it too)
News Post

SimCity™ 4 Deluxe Edition, the fan-favorite iteration in the long line of legendary urban planning simulations with a myriad of design options and factors to tweak and track, creating the ultimate sense of life-like complexity, is available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next 72 hours! Includes the Rush Hour expansion pack.

As it happens it's also 50% off on Steam currently (making the price £4.99 on my Steam store). GoG still wins out for me due to charging in dollars, though

Meh, where's the Command & Conquer series? They're keeping them Origin exclusive, aren't they?

EDIT: Oh wait SimCity. Maybe that's thread worthy? I mean it's a DRM-free SimCity game.

It was already available DRM free. DRM free is not exclusive to GOG releases and the game is already on many digital stores.
