Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Quick question.... If a villager pockets a projectile and uses it on another villager who pockets it, can it be used back and forth ad infinitum?
 
I'm still floored at how much I love the newcomers this time around.

Little Mac, Rosalina, Villager are all dream additions.

Megaman is beyond all possible hope addition.

I didn't even know I wanted Greninja and Wii Fit trainer, yet here they are.

I thought nothing would top Wario/ZSS/Pit/Snake/Sonic, but Little Mac and Mega Man do it by themselves.

Would anyone be willing to humor my Klonoa suggestion instead of Pac-Man? Because Klonoa wears a Pac-Man hat. That's all I got. That, and Pac-Man with arms and legs looks bad.

Also I think I'm OK with Ike now. I guess I just don't care anymore about Fire Emblem representation, no point in worrying about stuff I cannot change.

Including Klonoa over Pac-Man would be like including Strider Hiryu and Gilius Thunderhead over Mega Man and Sonic.
 
To anyone who is going to E3 or Best Buy (I don't know if my BB will participate) can you try out Mario and see if he's been buffed? Thanks!

It's just that guest characters are supposed to be special/iconic/"big deals," and Klonoa isn't any of that. Klonoa's pretty far down the list of top Namco IPs.

Pac-Man is the obvious Namco representative for a bunch of reasons. He's the most recognizable video game character, he's from the top grossing arcade game of all time, he's Shigeru Miyamoto's favorite video game character, and he has an established connection to the Nintendo universe through Mario Kart Arcade GP. It makes too much sense not to happen.

True. But the modern version of Pac-Man is not really well-loved, and the arcade incarnation is not suited for a fighting game as much as Klonoa. But I know it's not going to happen.
 
Question? What were some of y'alls favorite and least stages in Brawl and what stages you think you'll like or hate in this game?


Me: Favorites:

Delfino Plaza: Just the visuals really

Luigi's Mansion: Had so many good memories with this stage. Used to always be the final round stage me and my little brother used to play on when we had tournaments and we used to have Fire matches on it (Mario & Luigi fire flower colors, sticky bomb, fire flower, curry, bob-omb, smart bomb, motion sensor bomb, hothead, and fire crates on high)

WarioWare - I think people tend to dislike this because of the mini games and they suck at doing something as simple as taunting, but I enjoyed getting a slight break from the fighting to get a reward.

Pictochat: I like the constant switch ups in this one compared to Flatzone 2 which seemed to get in the way most of the time.

Norfair: This is another one I found people typically don't like but for me I found no problems with it and I liked throwing people into the lava and trapping them outside when the flood comes.

Frigate Orpheon & Smashville: I love both of these for the same reason. It gives the simple flat small stage some uniqueness. Smashville for its day and night cycle with the moving platform and Frigate with its flipping the stage.

Shadow Moses Island: Snake's taunt

Hated:

Spear Pillar: I would have been ok with this stage if the screen flips were signaled. Majority of the time when the stage flips upside down or placements are flipped around. I'm trying to get back onto the stage and it always causes a KO when I wouldn't have gotten one. Frigate at least gave you a signal when the stage would flip. It's completely random on Spear Pillar.

Hanenbow: Just plain boring because it's lack of music

75m: The design is just bad for a battlefield.

New Pork City: No explanation needed

So we know that this move replaced the (now non-existent) transformation move. It can be used to attack characters and defend yourself. It requires you to charge the move if you want to make it go further. Let's talk about defense first.

Defensive use

So it is shown it can be used to stop projectiles. It probably won't be destroyed by projectiles with no hitstun (i.e. Fox's blaster), though it would be silly if it can be destroyed by something like Mario's fireball. I'm guessing there could be some sort of damage threshold before it is destroyed when using it defensively (Samus' Charge Shot is pretty powerful).

I doubt it is going to be useful to use it defensively outside of long-range moves.

Now to its offensive uses.

Offensive use
There seems to be two ways the phantom itself attacks and it seems to depend on how long you charge it. The first few GIFs/WebMs are for the short/no charge.



The 1st and 3rd GIF are slowed down (1/2 speed) to show the phantom coming out clearly and the 2nd GIF is just a normal version of the 1st GIF to see the attack in normal speed.

The phantom seems to go about the same distance in both clips, though it is hard to tell.

The phantom does a quick slash that seems to be different depending on the direction its facing. You can see the 1st of the two clips slashing from the top-left to the bottom-right and the 2nd slashing from the bottom-left to the top-right. It doesn't seem like it will be powerful.

Now its charged variant.


This one attacks much differently. It is a two-hit move. It comes out with the sword pointing at the direction it is facing ready to stab the opponent. If the attack reaches opponent, it stabs the opponent and then swings its sword upwards for the second hit and sends the opponent flying. Seems to have some good knockback, though it isn't shown how much damage Fox is at. The attack would be easy to react to if used in a long distance.

Though the next two clips show it being reflected it closely lol.



So yea, it can be reflected. They also show Zelda being knocked back a good distance.

Something to note about Villager is that he slides backwards when using Pocket on the phantom. We haven't seen it happen with any other move that he used Pocket on.

A few things we don't know:
- Can it be sent off stage?
- Can you charge the move in the air?
- If you can charge it in the air, can it be launched from the air?

We'll find out if someone tries all of that out in the demo lol.

It seems to be an interesting move.

Probably going to be trying out a demo, but asides from some big stuff I probably won't be able to really tell you guys about changes

If you have big requests that will be easier to find out, I'll can try to do that
 
I want to try out a demo, but even if a bestbuy near where I'm staying over June is doing the demos I'll be without a car or anyone to drive me anywhere during E3 since I'm going to be going back to my university for a month to help work on a design team project
 
I hope Toon Link has a new final smash. It should either be a version of the hurricane spin that sucks in anyone nearby or he conducts the ballad of gales and whips up a storm that makes everyone extremely light, fall slow, and very smashable while he equips the iron boots so that he moves normally.

Are you saying b moves don't count for characters? Wolf is a clone yes he is very different the same way Luigi is, but Luigi is also a clone of Mario. Yes they aren't anywhere to the same degree as Melee's clones but they are still clones. Ken, Akuma, Dan, and all the other shota characters are clones of Ryu, even if they are so far removed from him in terms of gameplay style. They all have a fire ball esque move, an upper cut move, and a spin kick move that while frequently having different properties are clearly inspired from the original hadoken. The same holds true for falco and wolf, they all have the same blaster, dash, charged launch, reflector special set even if they're all radically different from each other in usefulness.

How Brawl handled its clones is how all clones should be handled in any fighting game, similar to their original character that if you know the originals basic concepts you can jump into them easily, but different enough to have unique play styles despite a common starting point.

There is nothing bad about clone characters especially in the way brawl handled them, I'm not sure why some smash fans get so upset about that.
