Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

So the platform lets you know how long you have before you face the music. Great addition, now they can fear how much time they have left before falling into the Super Sonic Blender with more precision.

It's looking like a lot of final polish stuff from here on out. But if they're that close to being done with the game, why such a wide berth between the 3DS and Wii U release windows? Will it take the extra few months to get those HD models looking especially HD?

I assume it's mostly for marketing reasons. Nintendo wants a huge Wii U release for the holiday season, and they've got nothing bigger than Smash lined up.

Because then they would cannibalise each other's sales.

Pic of the day. Here's a look at the revival platforms. The color of the bottom mechanism changes from yellow to red to warn you how much time you have left before you drop into the fray.

Low res platforms.
I'm in.

I always considered it that you ideally should get both versions for the full experience, that both games were essentially one game in two halves. But maybe I'm just telling myself that.

The average consumer doesn't have the money, time, nor energy to deal with two "halves" of the same game.

Yes, ideally having both games would be the most complete experience, but that's just not how the market thinks, even with a game as big as Smash Bros.

EDIT: What confuses me more is that the 3DS version is getting release much sooner, but the vast majority of screens up to this point are for the Wii U version.

Guess what version they need to try and sell harder?

Guess what version they need to try and sell harder?

and which one is better.

That too.

The wii u one is the one thats gonna have all the stuff in it.

I understand (and agree with) those points, but they'll have almost half a year to focus solely on promoting the Wii U version. The 3DS is coming out in a few months at the latest and the amount of promotion it's getting relative to the Wii U considering that fact seems strange to me.

Huh, no Swordsmen AND we get to see platforms? Cool....time to see Ridley use one in the RidleyGIF of the day.

Were probably getting another Assist trophy this week.

HEy german kart-guys and girls, any chance amazon will send it out early due to the holiday on thursday? :)

If they do, you might find yourself with Nintendo ninjas knocking at your door and demanding the game back, just like what happened to the people who got Pokémon X and Y before the release date.

I wont play it, but I want it to be in my Wii U on the 30th...though I dont know if I could hold myself back...

Isn't it illegal to take back what you've already sold to someone?

My guess is they didn't try to take it back but politely asked and maybe paid over what they sold it for.

Though if I recall correctly, the copies they sold were to friends/repeat customers, people who would prefer to get them out of hot water if they can help.

They didn't knock on individual people's doors, they went to the stores that were selling it early.

Don't be silly, this is Nintendo we're talking about: their secrecy and excess money are unparalleled. Given that it's Nintendo of Europe, they probably had Leopard 2 tanks sitting on hills overlooking early players' houses, as helicopters disguised as news helicopters hovered overhead, filled with people ready to slide down ropes to quickly storm the place for the game if the person refused to give up the game, and cargo planes filled with paratroopers discretely circled the area as a backup in case the player fends off the people deployed from the helicopters.

These types of updates get me unnaturally excited for some reason. Everything about this game looks so polished!

It's extraordinary how a series this old & long established is still able to get so many tweaks both minor & major to the formula in the next entry: team auras, mirrored positioning, death explosions colored to the player that killed you, revamps to online, multiple tether recovers, edgehogging changes. I suspect the Namco team may have had a lot to do with this, suggesting a bunch of ideas that never crossed Sakurai's mind before.

It's also possible some of them might not have been possible on weaker hardware.

  1. Took 3 pics, but none straight. Clearly doesn't want us to see the big picture.
  2. Suddenly 2 new characters are unlocked in the third shot for no reason whatsoever.
  3. Ridley being in, yet he doesn't show the picture itself but only the Y, because he has no freakin' original render to put there. It'd be spotted immediately as a fake if he showed a custom model or an old one.

I don't know what that hideous thing is, though clearly it's not Ridley.

Sin & Punishment was released internationally on the VC shortly before Brawl was originally meant to be released, and we all saw how that turned out...

I think even an acknowledgement with an AT would be nice for Nazo no Muramase-jou to have. But I mean between this, the appearance in Captain Rainbow and the Nintendoland game (which also introduced a little Smash-esque ninja star logo for his game)? Hmmmm...

Am I missing something? Ken is there?

? Ken is still very relevant, even though he hasn't been winning national tourneys. He's making a bit of a "comeback" and is still highly respected in the smash community.

EDIT: Completely misunderstood your post.

The 5 Melee gods right now are.

1. Mew2King
2. Mango
3. HungryBox
4. Dr. Peepee
5. Armada

Nobody else even comes close. Ken was a god back in the day, but he just doesn't keep up anymore. He definitely deserves to be invited anyways, considering he was pretty much unstoppable in his prime.
