Super Smash Bros. Wii U Best Buy Demo on June 11th and June 14th | USA locations up

I just checked the location listings and it looks like there is one in NYC this year. I will be at the Long Island City location on June 11th for sure. Awesome. The one downside is that this is the only location serving the entire NYC Nintendo fan community.

I won't be able to get there until ~4:30, which means I will likely arrive to an insuperable crowd. Oh well. I'll come hoping to play (or at least see) Smash, but I will settle for getting an infinite number of street passes and a large reservoir of players for local 3DS multiplayer. I'll look forward to playing Kid Icarus Uprising's local multiplayer for the first time.

Hopefully they also have it at Nintendo World like last year.

What a really weird selection of cities. I decided to check out some states that I was somewhat familiar with geographically and it seems like they actually went out of their way to stay away from the centers of big cities. In NY they don't have NYC or Westchester, but they have Nyack. In Florida they don't have Orlando, but have Lakeland. In Georgia the Buckhead and Mall of Georgia locations are 30 minutes from one another. Connecticut has one location, but Nevada has none. All very weird...
I think it's probably a combination of crowd control issues and store interest. I can image that not all stores would want to to deal with hosting events like this.

I'm sure it's not as simple as Nintendo failing to identify population centers.

Perhaps this is out of Nintendo's control and that a store has to opt into this kind of event.

If anything, it probably has to do with where their 'retail representatives' are based out of, since they're the ones hosting it.

The locations closest to where I love are all about 30 minutes away from me.

Now it's a matter of finding which one will be the least crowded. <_<

Stupid Woodlands. Not fair.

I'm not driving 40 miles for that shit.

Are you joking? I would drive 400 miles, but that still won't get me to the closest event. I'm restraining myself from looking at airfare.

Hell I used to drive up to 140 miles just to attend decent Melee tournaments.

South Tampa hype! Wasn't expecting it and the best buy is like 5 minutes away. But I do wonder how many people will show up/ if you'll be able to play for more than one match...

Two locations within twenty minutes driving distance. The only people I could get a ride with that would actually be interested work on those days.

The struggle truly is real.

I wish there were more than two participating locations in the entire state of Colorado, and that I didn't have to drive an hour to get to one, but... it's Smash Bros. It''s worth it. o.o

It makes absolutely no sense to me that Nintendo isn't doing this for the Best Buy in Bellevue. Their own backyard :( I wish they'd just put a demo up on the eShop.

Guess I'll have to consider driving up to Lynnwood.

Wish one of them was the Best Buy by my house. Oh well, I'll go to the Mall of Georgia on the Saturday event like last year. I want that coin. lol

Kinda far away. But worth it for that coin, and I'll get a lot of streetpasses in the process.

Canada locations are up!

I wonder which Ontario location would be the most dead...

Also:

The four-player demo of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U lets players battle it out against one another using their favorite characters from fan-favorite video game franchises like Pokémon, Super Mario Bros., Mega Man, Sonic the Hedgehog and The Legend of Zelda.

4 player demo confirmed?

Oooohh, they now have it in Scarborough instead of North York as the second location.

The STC one and Eaton Centre one are about the same distance for me. Not sure which one to go to.

I think the Eaton Centre one would be much more crowded due to being in Downtown.

Sawgrass? Okay, I'll bite. Got a Year of Luigi coin at the Nintendo Experience last year, so I'll try and get one of the Smash Bros. coins this year.

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. I know a lot of stores in bigger cities don't even have demo units because they don't want to deal with it. I know the Best Buy in Peachtree City, GA doesn't have demo consoles. Neither does the GameStop.

I wonder what kind of controller they'll have you use...

Assuming I can get to a BestBuy, I'd probably get bodied if it's a Pro Controller and you can't customize the buttons. And doubly bodied if it's Wii Remote only. If by some miracle the PDP Gamecube-style controller is revealed and playable at the event, that'd be nice...

Maybe I should try some PM with default Classic Controller layout...

Since it's the same démo station as the MK8 démo here, i'd say they'll be using the same controller, so 1 gamepad and 3 wii mote + nunchuck, so yeah, maybe i should get use to that set-up too.

I live in Michigan, and all 3 participating Best Buy's are within an hour of each other on the east side of the state. (near Detroit)

Dammit, at least last year I could go to a Best Buy nearby (30 minute drive) to play Nintendo's lineup. I'm definitely not driving 3 hours there and back, only to play one match at a crowded kiosk as I wait for an eternity. Guess I'll just wait until release date, the availability on these promotions are ass.

Oooh, I almost could. The Winston-Salem one is a little closer for me though, and I'll already be pressed on time trying to get there. :(

oh shit the events in Winston?! We usually dont get cool shit like this.
Hell yeah its like 9 minutes away.

So good.

Alright, my trip to Smash is a lock for the 14th. Whitehall, here I come!

I wonder who'll be in the demo...from the current roster, I'd love to check out Olimar, Villager, and Mega Man first.

Awesome, my city is on the list again. I like how in Canada we just have to show up and get the coin. I was the second one there last year, so hopefully I can get another coin.

Neat, they actually added a best buy that's at least a 5-10 minute drive from my house. I might try to get to one of them on the 11th or the 14th depending if i want to take a day off of work on one of those days.

I have to drive 50 miles to Sunrise Florida just so I can play it...

That's gonna kill my gas and I drive a car with poor MPG, I'm not sure if I'll go.

will be going to the mississauga location on wednesday. saturday is going to be hell. so same as last year for e3.

Hey Nintendo, West Virginia exists.

We have three whole Best Buys, be accommodating, pick one. Preferably Huntington, there's a population of >300,000 people you could service.
