Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Nice change. Should make spotting worn down fighters in free 4 all easier.

Yeah, I agree. And it's not like you ever had a chance to check out your damage-percentage in Melee anyway - it just kind of was there and you realized you were on the brink of death when you started to fly everywhere from the lightest of kicks.

Eh, I don't really care for this change. It's there for what it's there for.

Now, if we CAN turn the HUD off this time this would be a cool indicator to have.

Kind of a dumb change.

How so? It seems to fit with the theme of "make the competitive aspects easily accessible" that this game seems to have. I've been getting the vibe that they want this to be a much more competitive game than Brawl, but don't want the large barriers of entry that Melee has.

I'm sorry to be that guy, but was this deemed fake?
I tried reading the earlier pages and got lost.
It looks legit to me because the menu background looks like the one seen from the for fun/for glory menu.

Are the 3's the CPU level?

I think we can turned our health HUD off by making it invisible or something. I can't helped but think its in brawl because my friend did that occasionally when we played online.

The first thing that occurs to me is 'why would you have character that were already unlocked spaced out that way"

It started out looking legit, but then it fell apart with subsequent pictures.

It never looked legit because who the fuck thinks taking a picture inches away from a screen looks sneaky at all? Any leaked picture should only be taken seriously if it's very clear and/or taken from a more realistic distance.

Not to mention how incredibly dumb it would be to have dozens of locks littered about in a character select screen.

Anyone who ever thought that leak looked legit just because the menu had a similar style than what we've seen should be embarrassed. Not only were the pictures incredibly fishy looking, but why would Best Buy even have the demoes this early?

There was so much going against that picture I laughed when I first saw it, then I saw pages of discussion about it and multiple threads on Reddit and was baffled.

Btw I'm just curious. But am I the only one who has gotten far more interested in seeing how newcomers play than the actual newcomers themselves?

With brawl I don't think I ever *really* paid much attention to newcomer playstyle, it was just like ... "yeah the character I want is in!"

But after seeing megaman, villager, rosalina, mac etc I'm like ... Wow so many of these characters are so fresh and unique. It really makes me care a lot more for the unannounced newcomers to actually play awesome no matter who they are.

What will happen when Wario starts steaming? Does he smell too, so it will be disturbing for other characters? I mean havent we gotten fart-jokes in brawl?

Every time I see that game select screen it always feels like the full image would be too wide for it to be real.

Personally I don't really think they would show every slot including locked ones. They would probably just show the characters currently unlocked and it slowly increases as more are unlocked. Otherwise it would just get cluttered.

Well since the game is pushing 1080p as it's native resolution it's almost guaranteed to not have standard CRT support what so ever.

Yeah, the ridiculous amount of padlocks is the biggest give away, but the original image they displayed on their monitor to photograph looks like it's not even the correct resolution just because the number of squares seems to creep off to the sides.

I'm saying too wide to be 16:9 (1920x1080). It's likely to be an illusion just because the image is cropped plus the wide roster but it does feel like the faker didn't even start with an image file that was the correct resolution.

He's referring specifically to the competitive play level, where, if you couldn't Wavedash and SHFFL, you chances of winning were slim to none.
It's not like Brawl is any different. There's stuff like glide tossing, chain-grabbing, B-reversals, DACUS, RAR and wavebouncing, not to mention all the things carried over from Melee like DI/SDI and meteor cancelling.

Melee's barrier of entry is nowhere close to anything I'd consider high. Hell, wavedashing is easier to do that dragon punches.

The angles/weird distances are supposed to create the illusion of the taker of that picture was trying to conceal his camera from others, or something like that. I do agree, with your general statement, but that one, very first shot was an alright effort. It wasn't "omg this is real" for anyone, and I don't think anyone believed it was real, but it certainly looked better on its own as opposed to the subsequent shots, especially the one with the "-Y" at the end, and then the one outright showing that ugly Ridley model.
