Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

I don't really play PCars that often but now that the game is starting towards the home stretch I have been playing a good deal. Tried playing with my 360 controller and god damn are the gamepad controls fucking garbage right now. Just really awful in every way. Digging my wheel out my closet was a good move because with a wheel the game actually controls pretty great. Some cars are better than others but racing a FC with r11 tires like was suggested on the forum felt amazing. I'm still new to sim racing so it is a bit of a learning experience for me. Playing on pro mode with autoclutch because my clutch is broken on my pedals. Playing with no assists feels a lot more rewarding even if I do mess up sometimes. Gonna keep practicing and get better. Sadly I cannot drive a street car at all. Always end up crashing those. That might have something to do with not changing off the default tires. Maybe someone could clear that up? Open wheel I am much better at. Looking forward to trying out the career stuff once it get's implemented.

For someone looking to get a wheel, whats the best one out there that is next gen compatible? I was originally going to get a G27, but if Logitech isn't going to support peripherals moving forward that seems like a bad idea/

I know this isn't as good as the video of that guy driving the Lotus 49 in the rain at the Nord, but I took the car out in the dry and holy crap, this is one of my favorite combos now:

Pretty intense. I've been meaning to try the 78 @ Nords, but somehow the car doesn't feel right at the moment (something to do with the turning, it feels a bit off). 49 looks too much for me :-D

r14-N is where the fun is at:

They're so amazing, they almost feel like cheating. Too good I read Nic's and Ben's comments before I tried them, otherwise I'd say they are too arcadey :-D

About your question, street cars are hard, yeah. If you want to give them a chance, go with the Megane RS. If you want to love them, go with the Lancer Evo. I don't know how real it is, but that car is God-sent if you want to have fun.

I only heard about this game within the past couple weeks. I've never been a fan of realistic racers (I like burnout, mario/sonic, etc.) but with my new infatuation with Top Gear and how amazing this game looks I wish I had known about it and bought into it. Waiting till November is hard :(

I think the only disappointment I could possibly have about this game right now is if I never get to play it on the Top Gear track.

Yeah I just got done reading Nicolas tire blog. r14-N sounds pretty damn good. I'll give the EVO a go with some non default tires and see how it goes.

I don't know why, but I just not really like the open wheelers in pCARS even though I really like all the other ones.

Personal preference I guess.

For a while I felt the same. After playing with mates and trying the new tires, I've started to like them to the point that I'm not sure what kind of car I like better.

The FC with r14-N tires is one of my favorite cars right now. My top three at the moment:

1. Lancer Evo
2. FC with r14-N
3. Ariel Atom 300

I just can't feel the rear end of the car at low speeds, which makes it very frustrating to drive on the limit.

Just drove the M3 GT2, that car is an excellent drive.

Just came across this trailer on YT and saw that it was posted over here. Although the game sounds okay irl, this trailer does a horrible job of conveying the the impact of it. The first sound you hear in the trailer is a low rev modulated sound effect. Something that has been plaguing a lot of racing games. Then it goes on with heavily distorted engine sounds and okay-ish doppler and distance effects. As these effects seem to sound better in game the guy who made the trailer should be doing other things than making trailers.

Pretty fucking amazing looking game. I love the camera work.

Today's build has Oculus Rift support for people who want to try out the initial pass. Make sure to check the thread if you run into problems though, because this is the first release and there are a bunch of things still to be added/reported/fixed/whatever.

New video of the series 'Real Cam Effect', this time with Project CARS, where I've added filters for enhancing the realism and lighting, also flashes and spots on the lens. The video is recorded as if the driver take the camera on the top of helmet, is a lap at Dubai Autodrome with the Pagani Zonda R.

.....

Players will be able to experience the thrill of driving a 700hp open-wheeler inside the world’s most famous oval as Project CARS will feature a true to life virtual version of the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway venue. Aside from offering an exciting place for action-packed multiplayer races and quick race events, the Indy 500 will also become a integral part of Project CARS’ career mode.

To go along with the track, players will be given access to all cars and drivers of the 2015 IndyCar Series season, featuring the series’ Dallara-built DW12 open wheeler. Powered by 2.2l V6 turbo-charged engines from different manufacturers, the DW12 is used by all IndyCar teams in various configurations for both oval and road-racing.

And two more cars to play with, in the latest build:

(fictional)RUF GT3

Renault Clio Cup version

How the hell do I access the old camera menu? It used to be X on the 360 controller to cycle camera modes and by holding X you'd cycle camera view (cockpit, outside, etc).

Ideas?

It is gone, but I think there is an option to get them using some developer command, -devcam /-devcams?

Ask on forum, someone probably knows for sure ;)

I really can't understand who would want a Wii U version of PCars... I have Wii U, I like it. But playing race sim without analog triggers? :X Even arcade race games feel weird that way. It's like playing on your PC keyboard.

If I could just buy some pedals for the Wii U version, I'd easily choose it over the PC version if only because of the Gamepad. Otherwise I just hope they'll allow right analog acceleration/brakes. That's how I played GT4.

not sure if this was posted it doesnt look like it. This is NOT Wii U gameplay but simulated PC settings for what Wii U would be like... at least we have an idea.

Ok. But simulated with what? Kind of meaningless if they don't provide what hardware/settings they used. For all I know they used quad GTX780's because the WiiU is secretly super powerful in the eyes of the guy who made the video...

I saw the author's comment under the video that he used mostly low/medium settings edit: oh and 720p

Sorry to tell, but that video is looking for clicks. Nothing more, nothing less. They took it out of their asses.
Yeah, it's certainly not an official video. I would imagine differences between console versions and PC would be more fine-tuned than a specific combination low/medium/high setting adjustments, though it's not like I know either.
