Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Prepare yourselves

I don't really get why he has to host this

he is never excited about Nintendo

They should have done an exhibition instead of a tournament. A tournament makes no sense with these rules.
Exhibition doesn't create buzz; they're showing how fun the game can be for everyone and items and lots of action are the bread and butter for Smash.

I seriously hope someone plays as Sonic. I want to see what changes he's had along with possible alternate costumes.
I'm honestly feeling kind of pessimistic that he'll be chosen. Last I checked, he was mid-tier at best, so not too common in tournament play (please correct me if I'm wrong, I don't watch much competitive Smash and would rather not spread misinformation). As such, the guys would probably flock to characters they know have been good in past games, or the new characters that look like they'd be friggin' beasts (as you'd mentioned, it's almost a given somebody's gonna claim Mega Man and Little Mac).

Don't like that the number of items is going down as the tournament procedes. While no items is more competitive than items on, I'd argue that a high amount of items feels more fair than a low amount. With a high amount everyone has OP as hell items to use. With a low amount, they don't spawn often and whoever's the first to get one gets a huge advantage.

That's why I'm hoping he DOES get chosen. He is mid tier and I'm hoping they improved him. Lucky for me though... this Smash Bros has so many great characters to choose from. I'm really happy about this and hopefully the competitive players provide a lot of good feedback to Nintendo that they can work with.

*Grand Finals is a 4-stock, 8-minute, 1-on-1 match on Battlefield as an homage to the competitive Smash Bros. community.

At least they acknowledge that the whole thing isn't true to smash bros community form... and that a smash bros community exists :p

After a character is chosen, they are no longer selectable by any other player

Seems that they really do mean draft pick. Neat. Good way to diversify the roster and show off the game more.

This is definitely going to be a FUN tournament, and not a serious one, which is fine.
that fan vote thing is BS

Also a serious competitive tourney CAN be fun you know

Depending on the price of the adapter, I probably will too, but it's nice to know my spare Gamecube controllers could get some use again.

I'm not sure I'd be able to resist a special edition Smash Gamecube controller though...

I don't like dealing with wires in my living room. I love wireless

I always find it's a tradeoff - do you go for wired controllers and have to deal with tangled wires but unlimited extended use, or do you go for wireless controllers and have to deal with taking out rechargeable batteries a lot of the time/charging with a wire (which negates the whole wireless idea anyway).

I really hope the final doesn't wind up being Fox vs. Marth. Holy shit would that be boring.

Says you, those are two of my 4 favorite characters there. What's more, Marth vs. Fox/Falco is like one of those match ups you could watch infinite variations of and still see new things based on the players behind them.

Cross post:

I'm very happy that they did that since few friends told me that they wouldn't play new smash without GameCube controllers. Now they don't have excuses anymore.

I'm willing to give Wii U Pro Controller before I decided with anything. I'm glad that Nintendo is listening to the fans.

How much is the adapter itself? I don't mind to buy a couple of new controllers since my GameCube controllers are dying.

4 Wii U Pro
5 GameCube Controller
1 GamePad

I have those controllers ready for anyone that want to play with their preference.

That's a good point. But since the pro controller has such awesome battery life it doesn't bother me.

It was related to the really odd and kind of sickening promotion for Halo 4 with Mountain Dew/Doritos where Keighly seemed to lose a lot of respect and integrity as a journalist.

Why did he lose integrity and respectability though? You can see on his face that he didn't like it one bit either
