Plenty of reasons. Better data transfer, more power to supply for the adapter, syncing, etc. There are 4 USB ports anyway, so this is fine. You could theoretically plug the adapter in the back of the Wii U too since there's the other USB ports.
 
It's the same thing with external HDDs, you end using 2 ports, all in all Nintendo adding 4 USB ports was kind of pointless, it would be preferably having USB ports with enough power. Even Wii can handle HDDs with just one port :/
 
prog, Scar, Juggleguy, and Hyuga are going to be talking about the Smash Invitational momentarily on the Melee It On Me channel and other Smash competitive stuff. Tune in if you want! We might learn some interesting things about how long they've known about this and etc! :D
 
There are some odd omissions on that list of playable characters.

Also Doritos Pope himself is hosting, yeeeeeeeah

Someday the GCN controller will die. Seems like this is just prolonging the inevitable. But I guess it's nice for people who like it.

I just use an external HDD that has a plug power supply. Works fine for me.

I already have my 2 back ports used for a HDD, one on the front has a wireless keyboard, so I only have one free.

Use a USB adapter for the power outlet and power your HDD that way?
 
I got excited that Hungrybox got announced because I thought: "Finally! They'll reveal Jigglypuff just in time! Jiggly reveal just for one man, one person! No sweat!"

And then an assortment of 20 characters is chosen... and not even a Peach in sight.
 
I have no clue who any of these people are beyond Ken (since he was on Survivor) so I'm only supporting people whose taste in games on the fb profiles matches mine because that's totally fair and logical.

So far rooting for Crismas due to DKC2 love.

Really glad I never sold my GCN or controllers now, even if I'd have been fine using my Pro Controller.

I don't know what you really expect Nintendo to do about the problem of you having too many USB things for your number of USB ports.

I have this problem with my computer, I just unplug unessential things.

Microsoft had an OK e3 conference, as far as games went, but they still had the whole DRM stuff and messaging looming over them. If it weren't for all of the controversy and stuff surrounding them, I think people would have remembered it more fondly. Quantum break reveal, killer instinct, metal gear 5 snag, and dead rising were pretty good, but not much else (at least for me).

I actually use the HDD for my Wii backups, and for some reason USB Loader doesn't like external power from outlet, it randomly recognize the HDD. In Wii U mode don't have any problem with that setup though, another inconvenient is having to unplug the HDD from the outlet, or else it keeps spinning, using both ports from Wii U and the HDD stops when the console off.

I'm still trying to cath up all the pages... it's amazing how one adapter can bring all this hype.
 
This is old hat by now, but I just want to say the official Wii U GameCube controller adapter is a fucking megaton and shows that Nintendo is really listening to their entire audience with this title. I love it.

Also, items on in the Smash Bros. Invitational... hell yes. Now I'm even more excited than I already was to watch. :)

It's the adapter to rule them all.

Sakurai keeps on giving with the surprises. Every single video (related to smash bros) he has shown has had something that I didn't expect would be in smash bros..

  • Initial reveal had wii fit trainer, who I never expected.
  • I honestly didn't expect rosalina, especially not with luma.
  • I didn't expect little mac to have a power meter.
  • Smash direct had a ton of stuff. Especially not final destination versions of each stage and an attempt at competitive online (For glory). Also, I didn't expect a pokemon from a game that came out so recently to be playable.
  • I also didnt expect a smash bros tournament at E3.
  • And now, I especially didn't expect a gamecube adapter and a possible re-issue of a 13 year old controller. Fantastic.

I can't wait to see what he surprises me with at E3. Fantastic job sakurai and team, you guys are doing exactly what you're supposed to do. Make a good game and give us stuff we didn't think we wanted!
 
Oh man, I hope we get the adaptor before the lauch of SmashU, this working for nintendont would be amazing. Some kind of workaround for project M on a Wii U would also be the best.

I wonder if the players are gonna coordinate with each other to get the characters they want. I think that if everyone agrees to pick a certain character it'll lead to maximum enjoyment for everyone involved.

I mean, it would suck if someone chooses Bowser before DJ Nintendo does, you know?
