Fighting Games Weekly | May 26-June 1 | Thank you, Keits

What were the numbers last year?

709 I think

I wouldn't say it's muted... I would say it's amplified. Smash being on Wii U PLUS it following after Brawl would both work against it in terms of sales.

It's only amplified if you're trying to compare its sales to Brawl, which we're clearly not.

of course, if the 3DS version turns out to be a complete piece of shit gameplay-wise, feel free to disregard everything said here

I think Injustice is ass, but I've always played MK since I was a kid even though not competitively and when MK9 PC dropped I grabbed it instantly. Great game, though I didn't really get into multiplayer because it came out so late for us and there weren't many players and I wanted to focus on Skullgirls. I'm definitely gonna get MK10 and try to get good at it. Please no late ports this time, NRS!

Now factor in Smash launching on Wii U with the NFC figure stuff. Answer: we have no idea how this will play out.

Smash 4 is anchored to the Wii U for serious play, which is going to hamper its adoption rate. That is undeniable. Nintendo's going after the hardcore this time around because it is the hardcore who would consider getting a console for that one game. The average casual/semi-casual who picked up Brawl because everyone had a Wii and it was a pick up and play party game for all ages are now spending millions of pounds for speedups on mobile titles.

The Streamworks update for AE pretty much did the opposite of improve the netcode - it broke it badly to the point where you probably will want to avoid ranked matches until it is fixed.

AE2012 on PC is pretty garbage now.

1) You have to force mute everyone individually you play against.
2) There's no automatic benchmark as far as I can see so you run into a lot of people playing Cammy on their mum's five year old laptop.
3) The connections range from god-tier to stuttery unplayable garbage
4) The leaderboards don't work

The saving grace is no GFWL.

I don't know about those but the announcer is definitely bugged. I hope they release a patch because the announcer is waaay too loud.

The AE patch improved the netcode?

only had 4 matches atm, seems perfect so far though

edit - can anyone explain why I still have my dlc costumes btw? I was under the impression that we were gonna lose our dlc in the transfer from GFWL to Steamworks.

I've played a good amount of games and so far the netcode seems the same. The only issue is it takes longer to join matches than it used to.

btw, do I have to manually uninstall GFWL? I want to get rid of that bloatware permanently!!

Yes.

Did you get your DLC via Steam or GFWL Marketplace? Only GFWLM buyers were supposed to lose DLC

Like we talk about anime fighters regarding this. But in Japan, Xrd, BBCP and P4U2 (and UNiB) are all getting played at the exact same time. It's not as if new games have zero effect on what people flock to. It's just they have enough players to where things don't dry up completely.
I was in Japan when GGAC+R released in the arcades, and let me tell you that the P4U cabinets where quite deserted. ^^ Lots of promotions, with cheaper credits and 3 rounds out of 5, also...

Okay, seems like I fixed the crashing issue. Verify game cache did the job.

I guess the Ultra mod I had installed must have not been replaced fully or something. I hope I can reinstall the mod again, though.

Did another test , when there are no desyncs (good connections) AE Steam netcode seems really good. Better than before, when it was superior to console.

It's bad connections where it's worse.

I wonder if it's like Cross Tekken netcode, which I heard used to work the same way.

Well, I tried to emphasize in my previous post that it's not as if people are unmoved by the newer shiny game. The time I was in Japan P4U had completely evaporated the Blazblue scene. But now Blazblue is the more popular of the arcsys games, even with P4U2's promotions.

Second, you're approaching this thinking that theres some sort of general group who plays "anime" games when that isn't true there. GG is a more older crowd...because it's an older franchise. Much like how ST and 3s are to AE in the west.

Eh. It's /r/Kappa, what do you expect. The name itself should be an example of what kind of discussions go on. To be honest, I wouldn't be taking Stream Monsters seriously.

I like how we're mentioned about not sending a player to Evo on there despite the fact that we are and quite a few of us are involved in the community, including running tournaments...

Troll MrWizard account aside. =P

Looks like ArcadeShock has some sort of licensing deal to announce at E3 with Street Fighter- they just put a pretty spiffy new SF logo up on twitter.

Well I tried unplugging the ethernet and changing my console date. All it does is quit me out from the game after the trophy check lol. Didn't figure it'd work but it was worth a chance. It's probably wanting some sort of patch before it'll start up.

Hawk will probably really bop Yun with all of his buffs and being a grappler. It'll be really interesting to see if Yun becomes the top-tier but Hawk becomes his major counterpick.

wasn't gief thought of as a counter pick to yun back when AE dropped? I don't remember that much

Seems they've really done their research on us.

I think the reason ESGN failed is because they didn't have a big "Press Your Luck"-style game board with the contestants shouting "Big bucks! No Cammies!"

Pretty much any grappler can be considered a counterpick to the Twins. Both Yun and Yang require playing on the inside to be super effective which coincidentally the same range grapplers want to be in, lol. That means they're always in danger of getting SPD'd or Ultra 1/Ultra 2'd. They have 900 life too compared to the 1050 or 1100 the grapplers have.
