Why do Canadians look down on Americans?

I am not Canadian or American, but I have lived in Canada for 8 years.

Whenever I bring up the US to my Canadian friends they always act condescending towards their neighbors.

Is there something that I am missing? I think that the two countries share a lot of the same values and have a lot in common.

Please enlighten this international student.

Because despite sharing a bunch of values, they have universal health care, better education, less obesity, less prison population, etc. It's kinda like America done properly (and I say this as an American).

Because being more to the left make you morally superior. It's important to point this out to your ignorant rightist friends as often as possible.

Is it because the Americans are the cool kids and the Canadians are the kids that look up to the cool kids?

This is news to me that Canadians hate us and Im American.

Pretty much that.Canada is also, politically, much less right learning than America. Dont forget lower crime, far less gun deaths, virtually no gun culture. There is a lot of stuff in America that seems downright idiotic when viewed from up north.

Someone said jealousy, and that honestly is not it.

Jealous of what?

Traitor!!!!! Go move to Saskatchuwan.

They have a massive superiority complex. Where it comes from I have no idea. Not much to feel superior about other than Hockey.

It's fun bashing our neighbours, just like everyone in Vancouver loves to shit on Toronto.

Despite their strange cultural qualities Americans are usually great so I tend to find it all in good fun.

Better education standards, better quality of life, much lower crime rates, generally more tolerant society, far better integration, universal health care, no absurd stupid gun culture, much more civil governance.

Really I can not think of one thing from America, as a Canadian, that I would prefer Canada have? Like, I honestly can not.

What about the lower Playstation 4 system price?

They do, but the misconception is that it is some sort of universal thing where as it is a minority. You can buy it in Ontario, sure.

I hear great things about In-N-Out.

Yeah, but that is a franchise thing; culturally speaking. and in terms of non commercial enterprises, I am drawing a blank.

Oh and our Beer is better.

Australians look down on them too in my experience. I've heard some pretty ludicrous generalizations about them from otherwise intelligent people. Not that America doesn't have problems, but it's just tall poppy syndrome. Every country needs to feel superior to the big guy.

Everyone looks down on everyone.

I think this answer is the most accurate...at least between developed nations.

I'm sure countries in Europe roll their eyes at their neighbors as well while enjoying the benefits of having those neighbors.

Better deals, lower taxes. : Though we can always visit the States during Christmas or whatever to shop. Sucks that we don't get free shipping when buying stuff online from the US.

It is not that, honestly.

Canada has the most prosperous middle class in the world so it more than evens out.

Are you sure?

If you live in Ontario you can buy bagged milk, but it is not the norm. Which is my point. A lot of people bring it up thinking or presenting it as a norm, and really the bagged milk thing is an oddity within our own country.

Awe, Canada why? You're our favorite neighbor! (Don't tell Mexico).

I've always assumed the jabs between Canada and the U.S. are all in good fun (like how siblings would fight). We all know that if WWIII ever happens, Canada and the U.S. will have each other's back. Go team North America!
