Fighting Games Weekly | May 26-June 1 | Thank you, Keits

@ Rice

How's Evil Ryu matchup against Yun, Viper and Ibuki?

Not entirely sure about Daigo's E.Ryu yet.

He's getting used to him still.

Yep, really if it wasn't for the BP ranking tracking this could be his Cammy or Akuma all over again. Who honestly wouldn't be surprised if he's playing Yun by the end of the year?

FGW | It's The Final Kountdown

As much as I think the Smash news this last week should take priority, I love this one.

Simple, use that for this week and the Smash one for next week (it is the week of the Invitational & E3 after all).

BTW, preliminary thread titles for next week:

FGW | No Johns, Competitors Only, Smash Invitational
FGW | Nokia Theater? That's getting #Banned

As long as the current gen is the focus, I don't see why it's a problem. Titanfall did it and no one seemed to care.

Not sure those are directly comparable. Also Titanfall 360 was done by a completely different company that ported it. If both gens are being done in-house it's pretty hard to argue that there wouldn't be concessions made to the current-gen versions to get it more easily scalable to run on both. Also it's time/money they're spending having to deal with the last-gen version when those resources could theoretically be spent to make the current-gen version better.

The only people mad about cross gen are the crazy people who bought the new consoles at launch anyways

That's true. I guess I just never thought of Mortal Kombat as a looker anyway, largely due to the art direction.

I just think it's odd that people thought it was going to be current gen exclusive. Mortal Kombat has always been a very port heavy series. They put that shit on everything they can.

But maybe that's because 90% of games are cross gen.

The exclusive don't impress me either.

If anything it saves TO from not having to buy new consoles yet. Games like KI and Xrd will probably need setups provided by the community

Being cross gen definitely holds a game back.

Imagine if DMC4 was cross gen, we wouldn't have on the fly style switch. The character models would've been scaled back too.

That said game play wise it won't matter much for MKX. It's a smart business move especially if the game is coming out within a year.

I still like Deejays of Future Past as the thread title for next week.

yes.

No TO in their right mind is going to go out and buy 400 dollar systems based on such a shaky assumption

That's why I said it would be up to the community to support it with consoles. TO won't buy new consoles till a Capcom game is exclusive to it.

Is there really no PS3 -> PS4 adaptor for arcade sticks yet?

Won't be buying any fighting games on PS4 Til that happens. I guess MKX is a 360 or PC pickup for me.

Who's next? More like Who's last.

MKX leaked for X-gen

Everyone who I talked to that is interested in getting it is too broke to afford it, even people I expected to get it. FGC struggle is real ;_;

Yeah. I just got a new laptop for school and other stuff ;; Maybe at the end of this week though, or I'll bug somebody for a gameshare.

I should get a copy by MWC anyways so our scene has a set up >_>

Mortal Kombat is probably on Unreal Engine 3 again.
They should license ArcSys's netcode.

No guarantee Xrds netcode will be good.

Oh, I did get that LM myself thanks to someone here. I haven't had the guts to go online and get stomped yet though. I'm bad at anime games.

not necessarily

if nothing of note comes out for a few years, which is very possible, they could adopt the latest stuff after the price has dropped

This is just IMHO but I don't see the PS4 price dropping much beyond what you can get it for secondhand/random deal-tier today, just because it's more aggressively priced than its predecessor and doesn't have expensive components to splice out.

right now it's 400 MSRP / ~best case low 300s if you are hungry

I expect that unless the market gets disrupted, you're not going to see it move lower than 300 MSRP / ~250s before the next big thing hits, and I'm pretty confident some FG exclusives will hit before that.

But yeah _Retro is right -- as a TO it makes sense to only invest in new setups when you need to.

I honestly wish the PS3 port hadn't existed(yeah I have the cross-gen salt in my veins too), but since it's coming, I hope it's decent.

More like they should use GGPO, the cheaper and superior option. Developing a new title is the perfect time to fix any pipeline issues that would would make rollback-based netcode otherwise complicated to use.

Yes it will.
