Fighting Games Weekly | May 26-June 1 | Thank you, Keits

Weird with all the last gen sighing on Mortal Kombat.
Nobody minded with Guilty Gear Xrd, in fact, most are happy about it.

People were happy with the prospect of not having to buy a PS4 at the moment, but everyone assumes that the PS3 version is going to have to take some visual downgrades compared to the PS4 version looking just like the arcade version.

The new MK is going to be ugly as shit, just like the previous MK was ugly as shit. Being current gen only wouldn't change that.

How's Abel looking now with the changes? Most of the changes seemed like qol (it's gonna be so nice not whiffing point blank cr. HPs or people dodging the HP follow up from step kick by crouching) so I predict he'll stay around mid tier like he has been so far.

What is everyone's favorite EVO from this generation of fighters? ('09+)
2011 no question about it, mostly because Marvel was hype and then SF somehow ended up being just as hype and maybe even more hype. Every year since has had either SF or Marvel not as good as the other.

2011 takes the cake but 2013 Marvel was actually pretty damn good too I thought.

I remember 2012 most distinctly with Infiltration blowing up Daigo and all.

That was memorable, the problem was it was so early (first or second match?) and after that it was a snoozeville to the end.

2011 feels right to me, but 2009 was pretty special as well. Hopefully this year is consistent, but perhaps more importantly the salty suites feel "right".

2010 holds a pretty good spot for me since it was my first EVO and it was just really surreal to me. Shit like Justin Wong not making top 8 in SSF4 was unreal at the time, losing to an Adon player when no one played (and really now, no one currently does) play him.

Also Mike Ross fourth ;)

But that was actually pretty special.

I wish maj was still making combo vids. I remember 2010 evo combo exhibition when sfa3 gen did this flashy custom combo on rolento and the crowd was filled with gasps oohs and ahs.

Only year Ricky actually get top 8 in SF4 at evo (I think?). Was a shame the finals was a blow out..

I can't help but wonder what it would have been like if Infiltration beat Ricky. He lost to Valle earlier in the tournament, so I'm sure he was thinking about solutions to the Ryu matchup, plus everyone had a target on Daigo's head back then.

He might be really good, he was one of the surprise high % characters when the top 10 %s were calculated (the other being E. Honda.) He's definitely improved.

EX CoD is mad fast now so it works as a legit punish, which is great.

2011, 2012, and 2013 are the first ones I really paid attention to and watched, and all 3 were awesome in their own ways.

2011 had that Marvel Grand Finals, when Tron landed that level 3 got DAYUM
2012 was the year of royalty. KOFXIII was the best thing in that tournament by a country mile.
And finally, 2013 had more good KOF, Melee was cool, people booing at Microsoft and KI (lol), and Justin Wong's UNBELIEVABLE run. Probably the best, but 2012 is special to me as well just because of "KOF! KOF! KOF!" :')

Evo 2013 had the best After Hours.
Cause Bananamerica and the Anime stream in general were awesome.

Evo 2011 was awesome with Spark destroying LK, and then Daigo getting blown up, then Poongko getting blown up, then Latif getting blown up.
But Tekken was like the worst thing ever.

EVO 2012 showed why King of Fighters is called King of Fighters :P

Evo 2013 had the best After Hours.
Cause Bananamerica and the Anime stream in general were awesome.

I wanna agree with both of these, both were some of my favorite moments in the past two EVO years, though last year's KOF was also very solid. The Salty Suite in P4A was even more satisfying after the spectacular grand finals.
Kappa.
Overall year I think I'll go with 2012.

People, if you're going to play ae on pc now, unplug your damn mic. It lags the game out hard.

Also I don't want to have to listen to your fucking TV the entire match.

I had a fun game where a guy was talking to his friend about how much better the PC version is... while I walked up and threw him over and over and his voice got more and more frustrated while trying to tell his friend about the game :lol

Favorite EVO of this gen was definitely 2013.

I am biased as fuck for Justin Marvelous Wong though. But even aside from that it was one hell of an EVO for multiple games. Xian winning EVO with Gen in SF4, Reynald going on a tear in KOF, Melee breaking records then Marvel upped the ante again, Tekken was hype with Bronson.

Evo 2010 was an insane weekend for me, but that was mainly for the Melty Blood tournament and having every player in the US in attendance. The finals for 2011 (minus Tekken 6) and 2013 were pretty goddamn wild too. I think the SF4 final at Evo 2009 is underrated too -- that set between Daigo and Justin Wong was incredibly tense and close.

I'm biased as hell towards 2013 for best EVO because I was actually there. Still, even with the bias aside, it was pretty damn amazing and hype mostly with KOF, Melee, and Marvel.

The EVO where the Koreans cleaned house was quite memorable.

Before that EVO my thoughts were the only worthwhile players were Americans and Japanese.
