Netflix 5.1 on PS4 doesn't work!

Anyone having a problem outputting 5.1 when using Netflix on PS4? I only get the front speakers to work while the back do not. It works perfectly well on PS3. Games output 5.1 on PS4 no problem though.

This was in a thread before. A footnote, but it was brought up as a PS4 issue and not Netflix. My PS4 also hates Dolby and enjoys making everything PCM in games.

Edit: Maybe a stealth update in the FW will fix this issue.
One can hope right?

I know it wasn't working for me on the PS3 either, always got downmixed to 2 channel. This is one of the reasons I love my Chomecast. :)

I've found it works if I set the PS4 to Bitstream and not PCM, if I use PCM then I don't get 5.1 with Netflix.

Should I be setting any surround sound options in netflix andor ps4 if I'm using the Pulse Elites? As far as I know they are 7.1 surround sound(with impending update) but is there standard such as Doly, PCM, etc we can match them to?

I have this problem also. I just started using netflix (trial month) and would have considered becoming a paying member if 5.1 had worked. My sound system can only deal with compressed audio, so bitstream/pcm is not an option.

I had the same issues with PCM. DTS works perfectly. I don't know whether this is an issue with the Ps4, Netflix or my amp (Denon AVR1312).

It's a PS4 bug. Works perfectly well on my PS3. I will try DTS as soon as I get back home.

Friendly heads-up, just saw my PS4 download an update for the Netflix app, and 5.1 sound now works properly and shows up as an option under 'Audio & Subtitles'! :)

This may be the case with Netflix but didn't I read about an actual gaming activity that had problems with PCM on the PS4 as well? Something with if you had a 5.1 system the downmix from the 7.1 game audio wasn't correct or something using PCM, so you should still stick to DTS and let your receiver handle it? I can't recall anymore, maybe it was just netflix.

There's an option now under audio to set 5.q instead of 7.1 for pcm

Pulse Elites use a simulated surround sound...

I've had issue with PS4 surround sound since day one :/. The only way I can get 5.1 audio is through optical. I've come to the conclusion that either my receiver doesn't support DTS MA/Dolby HD (I'm assuming that's what PS4 uses as the standard?) or it's a PS4 issue. I know my receiver doesn't support LPCM 5.1, because I can't get surround sound on my Wii U.

Everything works fine on my PS3 though :/.

If it works like the Astro Mixamp and is connected by optical then choose Dolby in the PS4 audio settings and uncheck DTS. If it works just through USB then I don't think it matters.

Edit.

Actually I don't think it matters at all for Pulse headphones because Sony doesn't actually use Dolby Headphone like the Astros. They have their own implementation of surround sound.

As far as games are concerned...the PS4 should be sending a 5.1/7.1 PCM signal to your receiver...I don't believe any games use DTS MA or Dolby HD for audio...

The Sony headsets are all virtual surround...nothing is going to get them to output true surround

Well now I'm even more confused lol.

Edit: Downloading FW 1.71 and the Netflix update. Hopefully that'll solve my problem.

Select Primary Output Port and select HDMI and it will show up.

Thanks, that should definitely be a more transparent setting.

The PS4 still falls woefully behind the PS3 in terms of video and audio functionality. I still can't watch Blu-Rays and DVDs on the PS4 because of this (pink video ahoy!!).

Mine has always had that 5.1 option but I don't think it actually world. Sound only comes from the center speaker of my soundbar.

In the PS4 itself we haev to do anything if Im using the Gold Wireless Headset?

I read that no matter what I have selected (Linear PCM, DTS, Dolby...) the headset will use its own settings.

EU PS4 user here, Netflix is still version 1.0 for me with fucked 5.1. Can anyone check the version of their US app?

Wondering if Netflix have only released this update for America :(

Still having to use my PS3 for Netflix.

Yep, not out in the EU yet after more than two weeks. Unacceptable.

Just found out if you have a US account, login with it and go to the PS Store. Download Netflix from there and you'll get Netflix and the 1.01 update.

Login to your main account and the "US" Netflix app can be accessed at the bottom of the TV&Apps section.

5.1 audio finally works for me.
