Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

I could see Pichu reincarnated as Plusle & Minun, since that appears to have been planned for Brawl (as surmised from leftover data), and since the Gen III remakes were inevitable and Sakurai may have anticipated them (if he didn't already know about Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire altogether).
I would seriously love this!

Plusle & Minun are genuinely among my most wanted newcomers (I like their design and I like gimmicky/tandem Smash Bros. characters), but I'm not anticipating anything outside of the Gematsu leaks. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.

I doubt they would skip over an Awakening rep since its one of the most important titles in the series.

It also depends on what IS is actually doing right now. They're probably not working on a new FE game, since they just finished Pushmo World and if SMT x FE is still a thing they're likely devoting some of their resources to that.

I guess it's possible that we see a new one announced at E3 with a surprise Smash Bros. reveal to go with it, but that seems really unlikely.

What other nintendo franchise deserves that kind of promotion? Pokemon would work really well if X or Y were coming out this year instead of last year. Unless impa or something is announced as the protagonist for the next zelda, zelda doesn't seem appropriate for that. Same w/ mario.

It would have to be a franchise where the protagonist is different from game to game (No Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox (unless we get a krystal-only game), Mario).

A new mother game would be perfect for a smash bros tie-in! More people know about Ness/Lucas through smash bros than through Mother, unfortunately.
If the next DK game stars diddy and dixie only, then dixie would be a good way to advertise that game.

The new protagonist from X would work, as well.

Like you, I'm only letting myself get excited for the Gematsu leaks, and I'm not expecting anything beyond them, but I'd love to see (and can imagine the inclusion of) Ridley, Plusle & Minun, and numerous others.

Like I said, though, I'm only letting myself expect the Gematsu leaks. And given the recent reveals of Ike and Coliseum, I can't help but wonder if Chrom will be one of the E3 reveals. (And "Chrom" could very well be shorthand for Chrom & Lucina or any number of Chrom-related combinations, so who knows what to expect.)

Would the 3DS melt if you had 4 ice climbers, poke balls + assist trophies only on high, and played on Reset Bomb Factory?

I'd be surprised if the 3DS didn't have a strict limit on Pokeballs. Probably one at a time and an AT and a Pokeball couldn't be active at the same time. I'd even go further, Pokeballs and ATs can't spawn as long as a Final Smash is in play.

And if it did melt, and was next to another 3DS doing the same thing, would they fuse together into a 6DS with four screens?

Gen III is my favorite Pokémon gen and I would be seriously peeved if Pluse/Minun were playable.

every single one of those Pikachu knockoffs can go away

'cept for Emolga <3

Pachirisu is the best Pikachu knockoff, design-wise. Although my brain slows to a crawl trying to remember how to spell his name.

EDIT: Ooo, I do like Dedenne. Now I'm conflicted.

The new protagonist from X would work, as well.

If they're really serious about giving X a push I guess I could see that working. But that mostly comes down to whether X is a direct sequel to Xenoblade or not. If it's a story continuation I could see Shulk getting priority as a double duty rep.

Man, Monolith Soft's X... I just know I'll be on the hype train for it once it has an official title. Don't know why, but that's how I roll!

Yeah there are way better and popular reps out there for gen 3 such as Blaziken, Sceptile, and Deoxys.

Nah Pikablu(Marril) is the best.

I always thought Blaziken would've been fine if they included him into a Gen III Pokémon Trainer. I still remember the GameFAQs tears regarding Deoxys LOL

Never understood the recent GAF fascination with Sceptile.

I'm more hyped and wanting Pokken than ORAS.

Marill is not even considered a pikaclone (it's pichu for Gen 2). It's not even recognized in the "Pikachu and the clones!" backdrop in XY!

Sceptile has always been my favorite Grass starter line. The anime did a much better representation and look to him than the games ever did. I think it only got popular to bring him up since Pokemon Trainer got cut and they currently have a fire and water starter so it'd make sense for a grass starter and they just anounced Gen 3 remakes.

I was more so kidding since the rumors going around before Gen 2 released was that there was a pokemon called Pikablu and Marril happened to be one of the first Gen 2 pokemon revealled and heavily used in advertisement.

Speaking of the results screen, I really hope every character has their own victory music this time.

Metaknight being the only one was weird. I know they had planned for every character to have them in Brawl, so hopefully they try to work it into this one.

I can imagine Peach's being the music that plays when you talk to Toads in SM64, Diddy's being a rock version of DK's, etc

Charizard's in the game because transformations are gone and it's the most popular of Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon, and Greninja is in the game presumably because it's the most popular gen six Pokémon. The fact that they're both starters is likely only coincidental. Outside of fulfilling some imaginary "grass starter" niche, Sceptile doesn't stand out on its own. It's far from the most popular/promoted gen three Pokémon -- it's not even the most popular gen three starter (Blaziken is). It would stick out like a sore thumb among the playable Pokémon characters.

Nailed it.

I don't really keep up with the news about this game, but I went to the official website and I saw that Wario was still unannounced? Do we think if he'll be back or did he get left out?

I didn't use him that much in Brawl but it still nice to have him around, I think.

Wario has a confirmed icon and a confirmed new assist trophy (and Waluigi is set to Wario's icon)

He's coming back. There'd really be no reason to get rid of him anyway.

Yeah, the limit is going to be there for sure. Brawl had a strict limit, too, correct? Wouldn't be surprised if they're the same. Shame to think that a 3DS limitation would have to affect the Wii U version as well. Oh well!

I agree 100%.

Edit: I would NOT be surprised ONE BIT if Wario and Metaknight were both at E3/in the trailer.

The only bet i'm willing to make is:

Pichu won't be announced at E3 as playable.

He'll be back. A large portion of the vets still haven't been announced despite indications that some of them are already in.

Personally I always liked the idea of Grovyle being in smash over Sceptile, just looks like a better fighter to me if we had to put in an obligatory grass starter

Nice! Thanks for the heads-up!

I was afraid he would get cut off like Waluigi in Mario Kart 7. But you're right, that's not really how things work within the Smash Bros universe.

Cutting characters when they're unique playstyles is a lot different than cutting characters that are just avatars for a set of base stats.

Besides, Honey Queen was my most requested character.

For remaining newcomers, I'm expecting the Gematsu leaks and maybe either Dixie Kong, Takamaru, or, to a lesser extent, Isaac.

As much as I like Sceptile, I agree with this assessment of the situation.

Someone needs to definitely ask Sakurai during the Q&A if the circle pad pro will be compatible with Smash 3DS.

For c-stick smash attacks? The positioning on it would be so weird and make it really tough to hit actual face buttons. Maybe it could work. I think it would get in the way more than anything.

If so, maybe they'll actually localize the Circle Pad Pro XL

They already did. I just got a JPN one though because it was cheaper and faster than getting it through the Nintendo Online Store.

:O Ok, good to know!

Things to potentially buy for smash:
  • Wired internet adapter
  • Gamecube adapter
  • 4 'smash bros' gamecube controllers
  • CPP XL
  • ALL THE NFC EVER
  • Physical copy of smash for 3ds/wii u
  • digital copy of smash for 3ds (so i never leave home without it)
  • Anything else sakurai decides we should buy

I AM SO BROKE

that will be the best 500~700-ish dollars spend in my life
