Amazing, hope he wins his bet.

So, here's how I see the situation.

Earlier this morning, some Russian source leaks to a few no-name sites that The Last Guardian has been formally cancelled. It's quickly dismissed, people move on, etc. Saturday resumes.
In the evening, Scott Rhodes is at dinner, the rumor is brought up. He laughs it off. Hahaha, Russia.
All day, IGN waits. They know something. They know the rumor is legit, but wait all night for an additional source. Late at night, around 1AM EST - they get up the confidence to post the rumor with an official tag. Their posting's timing indiciates an additional source that proves the game's end.
GAF explodes.
Rhodes, seeing the madness, replies. Haha, he laughed this very rumor off earlier! Not knowing what else IGN knows, pushing them to delay the news. He tweets.
GAF explodes.
Sony RTs Rhodes.
GAF explodes.

So if we assume IGN is right, they have inside info that hasn't yet hit Rhodes or Sony's official PR firm.
Or we assume IGN is wrong, and they held a story all day for no good reason.

I would agree, except for the fact that Scott and Shuhei reacted to the news, and they are just about the top guys in development at Sony.

The wagon circling begins

Honestly, he's probably right. It's not like IGN is just some random gaming blog who is fishing for clicks. They're fucking IGN, the biggest gaming site out there. I'm guessing they vetted there sources to the best of their abilities, and then the editors wanted the title more sensationalized.

Whew! I'm so happy The Last Guardian hasn't been canceled by Sony so they can continue to do nothing with it for another eight years!

Except he said he was with Shu.

If Yoshida isn't aware, who the fuck is in charge over there?

I think this about sums up the rollercoaster I just went on for the last 20 minutes

I mean, this damn image still captivates me.

It's like it represents the all hidden possibilities of gaming that is unrealized, unannounced, wholly original, laying in the shadows somewhere, chained up, and one day those chains will break, and whatever it is will blow our god damned minds again. Maybe I'm projecting all that pent up need for something on Shadow of the Colossus's level, maybe its been too long since something truly came along and changed everything I thought was possible with gaming, but till then, I'm gonna keep the hope alive.

BELIEVE.

lmao

i would cut IGN some slack IF they hadn't used the important word "OFFICIALLY" in their headline....but c'mon son

That's the biggest issue here. Along with the lack of a retraction in light of contradictory claims from an official source. Rumors get reported all the time...as rumors. Nothing wrong with that. They called a rumor from a sketchy source official information. Shameless hack fuckery.

I can't feel sorry for Sony in this situation regardless of what the truth turns out to be. If they want to sit on their laurels and not talk about this game for over half a decade then they can handle all of the bad press, rumors, and insidious talk about cancellation that comes along with it.

You don't want bad press, get out in front of the story, don't wait for someone to start a bad rumor and then cry about it because you've been sitting on your ass for over five years not giving the gaming public any news.

I dont care... even if it is a lair remake for $60. I want some title with a name Last Guardian. Else my PS4 is going to be sacrificed for the fire god.

So this is what insanity looks like.

IGN finally updated their story but didn't change the title. Still need to get the hits from the front page.
