What I mean is, right now, since I believe in the Gemastu leak, all I'm letting myself expect are the remaining characters on the list: Palutena, Chrom, Shulk, Mii, Chorus Men, and Pac-Man.
So, if Sakurai were to show, say, Dixie Kong, or Takamaru, or Isaac, or whoever, this would make me think, "Oh, the Gematsu leak isn't the full extent of newcomers after all!"

Some notes about the Gematsu leak:
- We're taking it in good faith that Gematsu was in fact contacted by the same person both times.
- Not identifying Greninja by name suggests this guy either sees the material but not the names and thus doesn't know Pokémon, or he's getting the info secondhand from an insider who is similarly situated.
This is assuming the leaker is legit, of course, but any knowledge of statistics/probability whatsoever makes it quite clear he is -- or at least, the first leak.
I mean, if you were trying to fake people out on the Internet, would you really list Wii Fit Trainer on your SIX guesses at newcomers? And Villager, who Sakurai had previously ruled out? And Mega Man, who was (and is) an inactive franchise no one expected to see after Legends was cancelled? I mean, a guy on the Internet makes six guesses, and he makes half of them unlikely characters (or in WFT's case, a character literally no one else guessed)? That guy definitely had insider knowledge.
It's also easy to see the rest of his list shaking out. Chorus Men, from Rhythm Heaven, seems like precisely the type of crazy character Sakurai would withhold to dazzle us with his creativity since he already did it once with Wii Fit Trainer last year. Shulk makes sense with his possible ties to X and if nothing else the legacy factor of a new IP in Xenoblade and a new key player in Monolith Soft. There was also the Xenoblade concert where Sakurai took the pic of the Monado replica prop. Then you have Miis, which have the immediate gimmick of "play as yourself, friends, families and celebrities," and are already made evident by the Find Mii and Tomodachi Life stages in the 3DS version. You have Chrom (which could still very well be "Chrom & Lucina" or some other permutation simply leaked as "Chrom") fulfilling the "new lord" quota, and Palutena and Pac-Man... Well, I don't think we need to go over those two.
So it very much feels like the leaks will continue to pan out. It's just a question of whether that's the full extent of newcomers, or if there are more. The leaker never said that it's all that's left.

I bet that Ridley will be revealed as playable at either the Digital Event, Smash Tournament, Smash Roundtable, Mysterious 3DS Roundtable, or in a POTD. (I just added the POTD part lol.)
And I mean a proper playable character and not a playable boss or something like that.
I also mean ANY Ridley. Super Metroid, Prime, Other M, or any other Ridley.

I'm with you. I definitely think the Gematsu leak is real. I hope theres more because just twelve newcomers is just eh.
I think Ridley will be in, and if youmove the random button and make it very wide at the bottom, you can maybe add a 5th Side Mario rep amd make it look exacly like Brawl's roster lineup with 5 Mario, Side Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon reps. And have a even 50 with just Snake, Ivysaur, and Squartle cut.
Or you know, just go for 60 characters and blow me the fuck away. Hell, don't cut any Brawl or Melee characters, just bring em all back just because!
Either way, I believe in the Gematsu leak, but besides Palutena, who if she wasn't in, would be a bigger wtf than R.O.B. ever getting in Brawl, or Choir Kids, who just sounds awesome, I'm not really feeling the roster. I really wished for a female FE Rep. :/
Also, had a weird dream that Tanooki Mario was revealed as a newcomer at E3. Which is insane, but I'm now imagining a very awesome moveset.

I'm kind of hoping the leak proves to be wrong just because Palutena's the only character of interest for moi out of the remaining however-many that haven't been revealed 
You never know anyway: things change. The original leak predicted all would be shown at E3 but it didn't happen. Who knows how old the roster data even is by the time we heard it 
As for Fire Emblem repping, I'm #teamRobin: I think more characters who take advantage of the way they're handling villager/wii-fit would be pretty neat and definitely more interesting than another blue swordsman for FE :3

Plus, 12 newcomers would put the roster somewhere around 45-48 characters (depending on how many cuts there are,) which, I think, is more realistic than the 50+ some people are predicting.
You know, much like the TeamReal TeamFake business I think we could once and for all say which side we're on when it comes to Ridley. E3 is around the corner so lets have a final say on the matter.

I personally intend to watch the tidal wave from a safe position until the E3 waters reced and the mod-sharks have had their fill.
I'm inclined to agree... with the remaining characters, not necessarily which ones will be shown at E3. Originally, I was expecting Palutena, Pac-Man and Mii at E3, just because that seems like an interesting combination, but now I'm inclined to think Chrom will show up, since Ike and Coliseum have set the stage.

To be fair, Sakurai was teasing the inclusion of a Capcom character well before the games' full reveal. Mega Man was the obvious choice.

Yup, don't know how they came to that conclusion. The chords used in both songs are completely different, not to mention the chordal rhythm and progression. You might be able to argue that the melodic line is similar, but even that's a huge stretch.

That's why I think there's a chance Ridley is playable. I honestly don't really care at this point. He was my most-wanted character in Brawl but now I'm more concerned about Palutena, and at least she seems likely. But yeah, with Ridley, it would just seem anticlimactic for him to just be a stage hazard/boss after all this teasing. Psychologically, part of me refuses to let myself hope for playable Ridley, but the other part of me wants to believe.
At the end of the day, both sides will have been equally reasonable, as given Sakurai's history and all the ups and downs and reversals in Smash reveals, one can argue well for either side.

Yeah, although there could be some surprise in -how- the characters are presented, I.E. "Chrom" on the Gematsu list might actually be "Chrom & Lucina." But yeah, if the Gematsu list is legit as I suspect, it does rob the reveals of some dramatic impact.
I can't wait for someone to make a Project B mod that adds random tripping and other Brawl things to smash 4
