Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Picked up my E3 badge a couple hours ago. Can't believe it's so close... the hype feels real now.

In just two days we all get to watch the Invitational and some of us will be playing the game. We're going to finally know so much more about Smash 4 than we have since it was originally unveiled at last year's E3. Feels bizarre.

As for myself, for my first match at E3 I'm playing Mega Man, no question. Second match will be Kirby (can't abandon my Braw main!), and my third match will be Rosalina & Luma. After that... who knows!

My final Smash predictions for E3:
- 3DS release date announced for late August or early September
- 2-3 newcomers
- 1-2 veterans
- 1-2 new 3DS stages, no new Wii U stages (we just got two, after all)

Time to board the hype train!
Please check to see if Greninja has a black alternate color (his shiny from Pokémon X/Y). Thanks! :-D

I can only wonder how busy you'll be with all of the Gamexplain videos after =p

Hope you have a great time, man! Try and not freak out too much the first time you get to use Mega Man.

Will do! On that note, if anyone else has any other special Smash-related requests you'd like me to check on, post them here and I'll do my best to answer your questions! I can't promise I'll get to all of them or that I'll be the first to answer the ones I can address, but I'll do my best for ya'll. :)

Haha... yes, indeed. I shudder to think of the number of discussions we'll be recording throughout the next week. :P It's going to be fun, though!

If you could play as Rosalina at least once and give your impressions, that'd be great! The idea of her and Luma performing long-distance fighting still sounds pretty game-changing 0o

We already know it's scheduled for 2 hours and 30 minutes. :P
Thanks.

Please report on Mario and if he's been buffed.

Only thing I want is for you to try Zelda's Phantom in the air if possible.

Just to do another update to the timing chart, Apparently Nintendo's digital event is only 30 minutes.

BUT THATS OK MY HYPE IS STILL AT MAX LETS GO.

Wait... 2 hours and 30 minutes for the Invitational? The fuck? Isn't it like 8 matches total?
The Fan Favorite Bracket should take up a lot of time with the voting, and it does add in some more matches. There's also the media match and Geoff will probably spend like an hour jerking off to his colleagues

oh right.

so the important stuff should be done in like an hour

I'll state it again: All we'll get for Smash at the Digital Event is some B-roll and Iwata telling us to watch the Invitational. I mean, if your main event is that short, and a game is going to have it's own event later in the day, then you shouldn't bother wasting time on it in the main event, as there are probably a lot of other games that need that time and won't be getting it anywhere else.

I hope someone of you guys will make a summary post for the press meet. I won't be up at that time anymore, very likely (it's at 4:30 am here x.x).

Going off of the meetup spreadsheet, georly is awful close to me.

...but I'm going to a different Best Buy on Wednesday, so ha. (Maybe Saturday, I'll head to that one. Maybe.)

How many characters are you guys expecting to be revealed? Pleasy say # of Newcomers and # of Veterans, too.

I'd say ~6. We are getting the 3DS version in the upcoming months so this will be a great time to build even more buzz by showing some returning favorites and a one or two highly requested newcomers. (if that's possible at this point lol)

I'd say 3-4 veterans and 2-3 newcomers.

I'm still standing firmly behind my belief that all we're going to get is Pac-Man, especially after that Digital Event time estimate.
We got 3 newcomers at E3 2013, and we have possible Invitational reveals. Not to mention possible deconfirmations during the dev discussion but I doubt that.

I think 3 of each is a safe bet. That would give us, what, 36 total confirmed characters? That makes me think a few unlockables (besides Luigi) have already been confirmed, as 30-36 seems like a lot for a starting roster.

E3 2013 was different, as it was the game's reveal. We aren't going to get a deluge of newcomers that big until the inevitable roster leaks just before launch. Also, as I said earlier, I'm not expecting anything in the Digital Event do to it's short length & the fact that they'll have the Invitational for any big Smash announcements.

Were definitely going to get at least two newcomers and a few veterans. The game will be out within a few months.

How will we get accurate or live updates about the Press Meeting? Do we have to stalk several Twitters?

If there's no restriction on liveblogging then most big sites usually have those running. In either case the information usually gets released officially sometime after the event.

You're from GameXplain? I didn't know! If there is a 3DS ver. playable, try grab some impressions and footage for me!

Wait, 30 minutes Direct? Ehhh, expecting nothing then.

Just because the game is close to launch doesn't guarantee jack about character reveals, especially if Sakurai wants to keep characters secret for the final game. I mean, we already have 30 characters revealed so far. That sounds pretty close to a starting roster size for this game, so I'd probably only expect a couple more characters on top of that before launch.

We got one veteran at E3 2007. Nothing is guaranteed.
My guess is 1-3 Newcomers, 0-3 Veterans. Starting roster of roughly 33-35 (depending on if third parties are locked again), with a little over 10 unlockable characters after that. After this, back to one character/month until launch.

There's still many characters that will likely starting characters, and I doubt many more will be revealed before launch. This is Nintendo's big E3 game, there will be more than one reveal.
