The 'bricks' are hanging from the ceiling, I believe. Actually maybe my understanding of how far away those things are is even worse than I thought, I should just be quiet.
i was picking up my badge today, and i couldn't really make out anything from the one door that was open (most booths are up, and people were bringing in the televisions today from what i could see). there wasn't anything that looked too dissimilar from the last couple of years. it was hard to tell from my angle, but i believe i should have been able to see the edges of those pillars. instead i could only see the line of wii u demo stations (on the left side).
So no 50-foot-tall statues of Ridley or anything? No life-size recreation of the moon from Majora's Mask?

I'm still hoping that the general interpretation of that image is wrong... It's not (merely) a make a mario game, but rather it's the sequel to Mario Paint. (it's been noted the title is using a very similar font to Mario Paint)
In other words, yes it has a mode that allows you to make mario levels, but it's rather just a small part of a larger 'game' that allows you to make sprites, make music, animations, etc all that you can share on miiverse (and hopefully youtube).
Such a 'game' would fit PERFECTLY into that unannounced 3DS title slot that is getting it's own 90 minute presentation... A mario game maker by itself would be hard to fill 90 minutes, but a full on game making/artist/music making one with lots of advanced options? Perfect.

It wouldn't surprise me if this was real actually. Nintendo has proven that they're not afraid of using it (see Mario Golf and Steel Diver, among others), and Mario Kart is one of their biggest franchises. Seems pretty well done as well, if it's a fake.

Edit: Shoving battle modes into DLC is the weirdest thing for me, but battle mode is already very weirdly handled in MK8, so who knows.

At least those were just palette swaps and slightly altered models though. I'd guess that they took less development time than the rest of the cast.

Honestly, the two new battle modes wouldn't do anything for me without new actual arenas (well maybe Bob-omb Blast would actually be fun). The character choices strike me as... sensible? Plessie makes it look almost believable.
But then how do we know this screen of the character select isn't from one of the demo units before release? That one leaked one or whatever that showed all 30? Anyone have that as a point of comparison?

If Nintendo's been using the same basic layout for their booth each year, why can't this image simply be of a previous year's booth?
All you'd have to do is keep it to yourself so that it wouldn't show up on image search..
Those large rectangular pillars could be either part of a temporary construction or added into the picture digitally.

Should this go in this thread? I definitely wouldn't make a new one for this, but feels like this kind of belongs in the mario kart thread versus discussion of this rumor. New DLC would be quite nice for MK8 though, the free-er the better!

The Mario Kart DLC image looks pretty legit, but if it's true the choice of characters is a little odd. Surprised at the lack of Baby Bowser and Dry Bones.

It's very cool. LBP has been doing it for years. Glad to see Nintendo jumped on the bandwagon after 5 years. Of course, they likely wont have as robust an editor as LBP, and likely won't be as impressive as the 3D sculpting game MM is working on. But at least its something, right?
Oh, my mistake, I thought you were saying that was the consensus. Personally I think you could be right. We'll see soon enough!
