Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 8: Put mii in, coach

Easy resolution: "disconfirmed" is the proper English word, and it should be used in any formal context. "Deconfirmed" is a colloquialism that is widely used in Smash discussions. As this is SmashGAF, I use the word that is most common within the community - when in Rome and all. Besides, "deconfirmed" just sounds better, and it fits better with "dehyped."

I think Palutena has a good chance. Kid Icarus got a jolt of life from Brawl, a new and rather popular installment came out for 3DS not long ago, and with all the new KI items, the franchise has more representation in Smash than ever. A second playable rep seems likely.

Shulk is a bit shakier. Xenoblade is a little more obscure (though no more obscure than KI was at Brawl's release, I suppose.) I can see Sakurai going either way on this: putting him on the roster like Pit, or relegating him to an AT like Isaac.

When was obscurity even an argument against a character? Is this something the younger gamer use or?

Just go ahead and use it, lets rep the OG 12 :)

Yeah i did a reverse google search and someone who has never posted in the smash threads is using a copy-paste job of it. Also people in other forums are using it, too. That's it. Taking it. Link is my main no matter what. He'll be who I use on wednesday as well. Every single smash bros game I use him first, no matter what (i REAAAAAALLLLLLLY wanna try megaman, but tradition is a tradition and i can't break it this time).

It's not that Kid Icarus isn't popular enough, it's just I can't picture how she would play at all.

-flabbergasted-
-megahappy-

My account was activated just in time for tomorrow. Praise the heavens. I am proud to participate in SmashGAF with you guys (granted, if it works tomorrow hahaha).

I have no doubt that Palutena will be revealed. Just whether it'll be tomorrow is the question. I feel like if they're going to want to reveal a newcomer tomorrow, it's gotta be bigger than Palutena (Like, Pac-man Levels or something, though not necessarily the case). I really want Palutena though, probably highest on my list. I loved Uprising and her as a character.

It's not an argument against inclusion, full stop, but it's an argument against the inevitability of inclusion. Characters who are the opposite of obscure - most of all Mario, Link, Kirby, etc., but I would include Chrom as well - are virtually guaranteed to be in. Obscure characters may very well get in - G&W, Ice Climbers, Ness, etc. - but, from the outside looking in, they seem less likely. That's why I said I can see Shulk going either the way of Pit or of Isaac.

It's not that Kid Icarus isn't popular enough, it's just I can't picture how she would play at all.

Ah. Well, Sakurai's a creative guy. If he can come up with unique movesets for characters like Captain Falcon and Game & Watch, I'm sure he can do the same for Palutena.
EDIT: Apparently Palutena already has a viable moveset (I never played Uprising.) That makes things easier, then.

Seriously. If Sony doesn't bring the goods, Smash alone will make this gif representative of E3 2014

Replace Reggie with Sakurai and HYPE. Especially with it playable. Can't wait for those glorious reveal trailers

People said the same a year ago :( and two years ago :(

Here's a post I made previously about Palutena:

Replaying Kid Icarus Uprising, and man, Palutena has so many moves. We see her using the following attacks in Uprising:

- Levitation: Self-explanatory. She hovers when moving. Think of how Mewtwo slid around in Melee.

- Energy Balls: Three balls of light, horizontally or vertically. When fired horizontally, they fan out simultaneously. When lined up vertically, they fire rapidly one at a time, from top to bottom.

- Homing Shot: A ball of light that slowly tracks the opponent. Three of them can be placed on the field at once.

- Blinding Light: She charges her shield and unleashes a flash of light that blinds her opponent at close range.

- Light Columns: She waves her staff to send several pillars of light cascading across the stage.

- Halo: A halo shaped like her own slowly follows the opponent, firing its own light balls independently of Palutena.

- Poison Gas: She summons up a cloud of purple mist to inflict poison status on the target.

- Staff Spin: She spins around with her staff, creating rings of light that repel enemies in melee combat.

- Staff Charge: She holds up her staff and lunges forward in a blaze of light. Basically "Fox Illusion" the way it appeared in Uprising.

- Centurions: On higher intensities, Palutena can summon Centurions and Centurion Knights, one at a time.

- Palutena Glam Blaster: No doubt her Final Smash. Used to one-hit kill Hewdraw in the third chapter of Uprising.

Also bear in mind that Palutena is the one who creates the grind-rails for Pit. She could thus use them herself...

Remember the rules.

Alright, I felt some comments are out of control, so reign your hype in and post with calm and rational. At least, good dose of sanity please.

I repeat PLEASE! I don't want this thread to get locked because people are out of control.

1) No sexual contents because moderator specifically told us to not..
2) NO E3 THINGS UNLESS ITS SMASH RELATED
3) KEEP THE DISCUSSION WITH SMASH RELATED PLEASE

I don't want to see this thread locked because people can't handle their fingers.

Don't post any non-SMASH E3 here. This thread isn't NOT YOUR E3 HYPE TRAIN for Nintendo. Only POTD and Smash-related information.

SO PEOPEL CAN GET IT DOWN

I'd be surprised if it wasn't honestly. Seems the best mix of moveset potential and iconic image.

I guess I'm a bit worried because Namco seems to care about Pac-Man the way SEGA cares about Sonic(I don't think 2013 Pac-Man's design is bad btw)
I imagine we would have been playing as Genesis era Sonic in Brawl if the IP wasn't so important to SEGA.
As far as I can tell, we only got classic Megaman because Capcom has no real use for the IP at the moment.

"Deconfirmed," "disconfirmed" -- does anyone on here really look at Smash-related headlines using these words and think, "What does it mean?"

More reggie FILSAMECH incoming?

Fils-a-mech incoming? E3 hasn't stared and I'm already winning!

I'm trying to figure out a way to explain what I mean, but I can't articulate it right. It sounds stupid no matter how I explain it, but I don't mean move sets. I always have trouble with words so I'm just going to be quiet now.

Well, in my defense, the filsamech thing could lead to a smash trailer. We don't know for sure. For all we know it's leading up to the filsamech mii trailer.

Posting some Smash-related E3 news.

Serious question: who is that? (Other than a dracula character)

Smash being a celebration of all Nintendo, I agree it's not inappropriate to feature some Nintendo news in here that's not overtly related to Smash. For example, character designs in Hyrule Warriors could lead to alternate costumes in Smash Bros. :-)

It's not even remote related to smash in that twitter, so I'm asking everyone please stop bringing E3 hype train into this thread because it could potentially LOCKED our thread.

Referring to Palutena? Do you mean how she'll move around, rather than which moves she'll use? I picture her "gliding" a few inches off the ground, like how Mewtwo slid around. She tends to hover slightly in Kid Icarus Uprising. Should give her a silky-smooth feel to control.

Oh shoot you have a Link avatar now!

Alright fine, i'll drop it for now. Previously we posted anything that we thought could somehow relate to smash brothers, if even tangentially. But if, because it's e3, that risks a lock, i'll drop it.

I meant nothing by it, i'm just trying to build smash hype by building nintendo hype since smash is just a celebration of all things nintendo. But, while E3 is here, i'll keep it related exclusively to smash from now on.

Oh shoot you have a Link avatar now!

Loved my chompers, but once i found out no one claimed this guy I had to snag him up. Link is my main in smash and Zelda is my favorite franchise and my life.

Sure, but in the context of Smash-GAF, pertaining to Smash news, I think we all know what we mean no matter which word is used, so I puzzle why you guys butt heads over this.
I, for one, am a grammar Nazi, which extends to spelling and pronunciation as well.

I just don't bother correcting every instance of "deconfirmed" because I assume people are just prolonging that MvC3 meme (at least, that's where I heard it started). I shake my head, yes, but I do not intervene.

I'm sorry, but I kept seeing threads with Nintendo E3 hype getting locked, so I'm concerned that our thread might be next to get locked if we are not being careful.

I feel ya, I don't want this to get locked either :) I meant nothing by it all, so i'll tone it back a bit! :)

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. I also have that Palutena "leaked" picture in my mind and her standing next to Mario just seemed off. Like it didn't feel "Smashy".

Well, assuming the picture is in fact a leak, that's just her idle animation. Although in Uprising, she does sort of maintain her standing pose as she glides around. She would lean slightly forward or slightly back, depending on whether she's gliding toward or away from her opponent. Her flowing hair and gold bangles would convey her motion.

Quick question, has there been any info on what controllers will work with the Wii U version=

Pro Controller seems confirmed, going by info about the Smash-Fest demo along with some development pics. There's also this coming out.

Everything else is up in the air, but, considering what happened with Brawl and all, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sideways Wiimote, Wiimote+Nunchuck and Wii Classic Controller options too.

If it were a rosalina leak would you feel the same way? They both look equally out of place in that regard.
