Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

If anything E3 made me hype for Gamescom where we possibly get MM and GG new game debut plus info on Rime,SOTB, Rapture and more from XDEV

The guy is a bonafide imbecile for that, I agree. Keep Layden the hell away from E3 from now on. He's already established himself as the Don Mattrick of Sony, and all it took was half an hour on stage.

I don't quite agree with all that, but I see what you mean.
Honestly, I liked the talk about the media content by Sony Studios or what not, but I didn't like the numbers/obvious annoyances like you said.

OH, and Dead Island 2! I forgot about that one!
What a trailer. Good stuff. I didn't like the first game, so I'll be skipping this one too, but what a trailer.

Sony did ok I supposed. I liked MS better, though I don't regret going PS4 last year (especially if Halo collection comes to PC).

Sony didn't have anything that really wowed me though, mainly because nothing (other than maybe Grim Fandago but that's still just a remaster) was particularly unexpected. We all knew a GTAV port was coming eventually, we knew about Destiny, about UC4, Bloodborne (leaked), MKX, No Man's Sky, Batman, all that good stuff. We knew it was coming so I didn't really care when I saw it. At the moment, the game from this show that interests me the most are No Man's Sky and Sunset Overdrive. I'd be more excited for Bloodborne if we got to see more than a teaser.

I dunno. Sony didn't flop but they didn't wow me. I don't have high hopes for nintendo either so all in all, this E3 will probably end up being mediocre like I expected. 2015 will really be the year PS4 and XB1 come into their own.

It really comes down to this - 90 minutes of straight gameplay footage / trailers with 5-10 minutes within that 90 being brief announcements from talking heads versus 2 hours of talking heads with only 25 minutes of gameplay footage/trailers. MS had games to show and new titles to announce so that's what they did. Sony apparently couldn't lock up enough exclusive footage beyond destiny so almost a solid hour in the middle was devoted to a bunch of boring shit I didn't care about.

It started off okay and it finished on a high note but man oh man was I ever bored in the middle. Also kind of disappointed that project beast / blood borne had only a CG trailer- what happened that that leaked gameplay from last week ? I was looking forward to seeing that whole teaser. Instead we get CG that shows us next to nothing.

Where was the new footage / gameplay for the fall lineup ? Drive club didn't even get so much as a mention on stage. Another big issue- where was some footage of some of the announcements- why not have a proper sizzle real for grim fandango, even if it was the old PC version , just to remind people of what it was. Ratchet and Clank 1 getting a super HD re-release ? Awesome, how come I don't get to see it ?

It just reminds me that last year, MS also showed more games but due to how horrible their marketing was (never ever tell people what they want) people just recall how badly sony trounced them last year. There wasn't much difference this time around for sony but they couldn't spend 30 minutes blabbing about how shitty MS was because everything has been doubled back.

Another thing- sales of the PS4 must have slowed down a fair bit in the last 2 months because I was fully expecting a gloating figure of how 10 million people own one now. Yet there was nothing.

I am very much at the point now where I think E3 pressers should be 60 minutes long and that's it. Show me every game that is coming out for the rest of this year and announce all the big titles coming in the next 18 months or so. Wave good night, thank everyone for coming and boom, done.


I kind of set myself up for a fall on both MS and Sony though- I was hoping to see a new dead or alive announced and a new trailer for devils third and we got neither. 95% of the games shown off today everyone knew about. Some of those got leaked sure, but I wanted to be excited by things.

On the whole , these conferences just showcased 2 things- MS had to try and win over the fanbase they were rapidly losing and I think they committed a valiant effort that was clearly months in planning. Sony has already reverted to the PS3 era of not giving a fuck about people again. I was really thinking they'd have learned from watching MS last year that no one gives 2 shits about anything except videogames at E3. If you want to announce something that doesn't involve gaming- do a separate presser.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts and why i thought overall it was a bad conference. Best game for me was No Man's Sky which is multiplatform anyways.

to be fair dead rising is dlc not a new game,phantom dust is only a remke,halo is re rereleases of old games.

I didn't find Sony's conference all that exciting by any stretch either
 
No Mans Land was the best reveal so far of any conference. The rest is just more of the same: shooter or brawler with updated graphics.

They literally showed the same sequels or ports that are coming to other platforms. I really don't see this variety at all distancing itself from Microsoft. I may say Microsoft has a bit more variety releasing this year.

On topic.... I think microsoft and sony kinda tied. Both had great games to show, sony tripped up a bit in the middle w/ the dumb TV stuff that nobody cares about, but they got back on track and ended better than expected. Microsoft was solid throughout. But lets be real guys.. Ubisoft won the day.
 
I would say Sony's conference eeked it out over MS but just by a pubic hair's breadth. If MS was 8.0 then Sony was 8.1. The Ori Forest game looks an emotional anchor. I was getting sad just by watching the trailer. Best game out of MS' presser imo. What I did notice in MS games is that 90% the games shown to be exclusives are approaching a similar art style. It's the indie effect, I dunno. But all of them have a cell shaded-like gloss and smoothness to them. Not sure how to describe it. Ori had it, and so did Sunset Overdrive. Not that I'm complaining. It was interesting to see a singular art style.

Also, evolve seemed really underwhelming. It seemed to be missing the most important aspect of what made L4D games exciting: the characters and their personalities.
 
OMG why does it say "watch watch sony's 2014 e3 press conference now" on my ps3 and it doesn't work?

Anyways, what on demand stream has the best quality? Just got home from work.

Didn't watch Sony conference cause EU time. Sounds like I didn't miss anything at all haha.
Tbh MS stuff was just clean, seeing the titles announces and the lineups presented for the future, nothing blows me away, everything is predictable stuff, everything was also rumored or leaked too.
I also feel this gen kinda starting to get ridiculous with all these remasters, even if some are done right, just releasing stuff that has been played before...well ok... (For the people that didn't play those it's good stuff though)

Mass effect 4 seems interesting to me when they mention exploration of planets. And The Witcher 3 just looks awesome. Definitely upgrading my pc and I feel both consoles will be collecting dust.

While LBP3 is great and all, whatever happened to LBP Hub, the free to play one. Also, I hoped we'd get some firmware announcements tonight. Oh, well. Man, does U4 looked fantastic. And I am so glad I held off on getting GTA V. I wonder if there will be anything new included.
 
No bombs this year. A lot of the interesting games could have had demos, but didn't. Why no stage demo for Destiny? Why no stage demo for No Man's Sky? Surely they could have sliced a little bit out of time out of the thirty minutes they spent shooting the shit about TV and PS Now. Maybe they should have just spent two hours playing Far Cry and MKX, I would have been fine with that.

For sure, Powers was a freaking cool announcement. No lie there. Esp being free for PS+ but that could have been a whole lot shorter as a crowd pleaser and value add.

I don't know how anyone can say MS had a better show than Sony. No way.

For months after Phil was appointed head of Xbox we've had nothing but twitter tweets posted and hype about an amazing E3 show. But in reality it was average. The so called early reveals was to free up space because they have too many games to show. Instead we ended up seeing some of the exact same games. The way their conference was talked about i was expecting a major surprise and exclusive games to affect the PS4. Nothing like that was shown. They were the ones that had alot to prove.

Well if you're counting ports ( you have halo 1-4) TLOU. but besides that it seems pretty even.
 
The problem MS will always face this gen for me is what Sony faced last gen. Last gen Every 3rd party multi play they'd show I'd buy for 360 because it had the better controller and almost always ran better. This time if it wasn't a MS published game then if I wanted it I'll get it for ps4 or PC. Now Sony last gen beefed up their exclusive lineup and had good media services to make the system with while. MS is having to catch up. I will get an Xbox one, but it's a matter of when. And it's only exclusives that interest me for it.

And I'm sure PC only gamers looking at console games in general feel the same way with both consoles and multi plat games
 
A lot of different games from Sony that grabbed my attention. Abzu, Entwined, Bloodborne, and Grim Fandango were all huge for me. I'm actually sort of interested to see what becomes of Let It Die.
