Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (Naughty Dog) Shown - 2015

It will most likely be the last one from ND, which is unfortunate but not unexpected. The new studio will most likely go in a different direction with the series, maybe a prequel, maybe a different lead(hope not)so that UC4 was still the "last" one.

How the can you draw that conlusion? A thiefs end can refer to something completely different. And the "one last time" bit we all know Drake got it in his blood and you cant take that seriously.

Please be funny, colourful and light-hearted.

Did I miss something? Why does it seem to be the last uncharted?
That is the overriding tone of the dialogue in the trailer. The title is ambiguous but could also be interpreted like this. It's entirely possible that they'll leave the story open-ended for the potential of more Uncharted (it's a business after all), but I'm gonna guess that we won't see another one for many years after this.

I'm hyped as fuck, but a reminder:

Cutscene model != in-game gameplay model
-TLOU reveal -> TLOU in-game
-TLOU cutscenes were rendered on PS3 yes, but the output was a video that was played back.

This applies here as well.
Still, doesn't mean the fidelity reached isn't ludicrous for real-time.

In-engine is the new buzz word for "Legally Accepted CG". Keep the pressure on and we'll eventually upgrade to "non-interactive realtime cutscene graphics".
Yeah, at least ND was being honest when they said they would keep using pre-rendered cutscenes going forward. The gameplay is still going to look great.

Eh, when it comes to reveals like this you have to go on pedigree and history of the studio.
Have ND ever shown CG for the Uncharted games for their reveals? Outside of the first game, nope.
Absolutely correct. They introduce their games with in-engine pre-rendered cutscenes though that use better lighting for example than the actual game. So this should be the same.

if they're not going to change up the uncharted formula and have real puzzles, real platforming, or 3d metroid style progression with backtracking etc in a persistent environment
i hope they at least can take what they learned in tlou and apply it to uncharted.
the combat and encounter design was lightyears ahead of the previous uncharted games

edit: also, people saying the game won't look like this. of course it won't. but we've all played 4 ps3 naughty dog games now. we know how it works. if this is how good the cutscenes look, then the game is going to look fucking incredible. the drop in quality from cutscene assets to gameplay assets in uc1-3 and tlou isnt THAT big

Love this moment.

Couldn't find a clean version. Sorry.

A lot of people mistake a stable 30fps with framesmoothing for 60fps though. I think Geoff Keighly might've been too in the moment to realize it wasn't 60. There's just no way.
The video file direct from Naughty Dog is 60fps. It is incredibly sharp in motion, although there are no quick pans. But it looks like proper 60fps to me. And anyway, they say they're aiming for 60fps, so for their very first reveal they would have definitely made sure it was 60fps, even if they're not achieving it in realtime at this stage of development.

Guys! this looks super grim... just like Uncharted 2.... those damn guys who did uncharted 2 are going to RUIN THIS ONE!!!!!!!

Everything about that trailer gives off the vibe of it being the last Uncharted. "You've been out of the game a long time" makes it seem like he's older and he mentioned not really having a choice. So they are clearly playing the coming out of retirement card. I don't see them doing that again. I also don't believe ND would repeat the "one last time" multiple times in the trailer unless they wanted us to feel like this is it. It's ND 4th Uncharted, I'm sure they have other IPs they want to work on. You can't expect then to want to work on this IP forever, especially when so many key members of the team "left".

Watching the trailer gets me so pumped to play this. Cannot wait. At first I was a bit disappointed with the dark theme, but I can't lie, I'm gonna be there day 1

ND animation is just sublime..The game will deliver, this is the same team that made UC2 remember and that was classed as the "best" in the series!

It will still be UC as we know ND love, but it will as I and many predicted blow minds visually I even predicted the 1080/60 from the TLOU work no way that was a one off, it was a test to see how they could get to it.

I need to see more!

With the pedigree and history of the studio, I expected real-time graphics. It's amazing how so many developers are afraid to use those exact terms.

I think it's more of a timing issue. I don't think they have gameplay or real time graphics that are ready to be shown. This game is what, 18 months away from release? It was teaser that was made for E3. They did it in engine instead of CG. We will see gameplay probably next year. Until then we just have to speculate.

Wow, there are so many salty posts in this thread. I have a feeling many people (for whatever perverse reason) want this game to fail badly. Fanboyism, I presume.

What I saw last night was something out of this world. I saw graphics engine above and beyond any other on any platform ever and it looks like ND are getting ready to lecture every single dev in the world on how to develop a game for PS4.

I absolutely loved the darker tone of the game and older Nate looks way better than younger Nate from previous games. I'm absolutely starving for more of U4.

The Order looks really, really good, but this game looks straight up CG. I hope ND will show some gameplay footage in the near future.

They emphasized that line too much for it not to mean something. Combined with the fact that some time seems to have past, I'm pretty convinced that is the end of Nate's arc. There's only so much you can do with this premise anyway. It's better than having the characters outstay their welcome like Kratos for example.

It's how ND always did it, can't really blame them. Gameplay is probably VGX. Will still look great I'm sure.

The Polygon count is too damn high!!!
It's actually not, at least in the characters. Drake is apparently only a little bit above double the amount of polygons Joel had. Which was around 40k I think. So Drake might actually be below Ryse in terms of character poly-count. For that it absolutely looks outstanding.

Link?

" a thief's end "

" his last Journey "

Nate looks old..

And if i get it that will be The Last game of The Uncharted series..

Guys... Don't tell me Nate is going to die... :(

Does Indiana Jones die? Does Batman die? Does Jack Bauer die?

A Thieves End could just as easily be referring to a old thieving villain, who meets his end in this game.

After watching the 1080p trailer, i do now think it could be ingame, When i saw it at the conference yesterday, i was certain it was cgi but it looks a lot more possilble seeing that trailer as it doesn't look quite as good when you see it in that detail.
The lack of flickering textures and shadows etc makes me skeptical but i think someone like Naughty Dog could pull something like that off.

He looks even more like Nathan Fillion in this, in fact Drake looks in his 40's in that trailer. I wonder if they are setting it up for an Uncharted movie with Fillion.

My wife and I refer to Nathan as "Fat Castle" now. He would need to hit the gym, hard.

I wonder what has happened to Drake, because he seems to be in a lot of trouble. And it doesn't sound like he is looking forward to the adventure in this one.

The dialogue in the video:

Nathan - So, what do you think?

Sully - It's a lot to take in, kid. Where do I even start? You've been out of the game for a long time. Now maybe I need to remind you about the kind of people we'd be crossing here.

Nathan - Sully I know the risks. But c'mon, it's a surefire plan.

Sully - Pfft, yeah. If there's one thing I've learned in all these years it's there's no such thing as a surefire plan.

Nathan - I really don't have an option here, and you know that. But yeah maybe you're right, I've been out of the game, but... I need back in. So can I count on you? One last time?

Sully - Alright, kid. Let's do it. One last time.

Francis Drake was a pirate/privateer. What's the likelihood that the series is going full circle and will tie in with that?

The more I read this, the more I hope it does come full circle.

The next generation of Nathan Drake is going to be very real and will explore what it means when Drake is forced back into the world of thieves. He will embark on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. It’s his greatest adventure yet and will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.

So, I'm thinking the chances that Sully dies in this one are pretty much 100% now. Also, if Nate is what? Mid 40s or so from his looks, how the hell old is Sully going to be in this?

They emphasized that line too much for it not to mean something. Combined with the fact that some time seems to have past, I'm pretty convinced that is the end of Nate's arc. They could do a one game per console generation thing, and keep the franchise alive and fresh forever. You are probably right itl be the last uncharted for a long while, but I doubt the last one period.

Looking back upon the previous games, the character models look like fuckin cartoons compared to what Nate is looking like now.

Mid 40's and beat to hell. Im guessing the platforming is gonna be sparse, but intense.

Sully is probably gonna be in his 70's or at least certainly pushing 70.

Could be the game that makes me buy a Ps4, but this is just a CG trailer, we'll see in the future, uncharted 3 was very disappointing
