PS Vita TV coming to West as Playstation TV, $99

Good thing they skipped Vita in the product name, but I'm shocked they didn't mention it at all in the features: "it plays PS3 and PS1 games from the PSN, PS4 remote play in another room and it will work with PS Now".

And the "Lego the movie" game, really?
The Lego Movie makes sense if this is compatible with Minecraft. Minecraft will sell a shit ton of vitas

I wanted to buy a vita for Danganronpa 1-2 , Persona and Tearaway but this is a better product at a great price.
Any important games that are incompatible??

does PS Vita TV wake up when you press the PS button on a synced Dualshock3/4?

It does apparently when in a standby state like the PS4 and PS3's default 'off' state.

I think currently only Persona and Muramasa work along with a handful of other launch titles. (NA versions) That will likely change closer to release, obviously. Tearaway will probably not be compatible since it was made with the Vita in mind unless they allow you to use a Vita as a controller or something.

how much TV does PlayStation TV deliver in countries like Austria (no psn video store, no amazon prime/lovefilm, no netflix, no hulu, no everything) ?

I think the name change is smart. Could be confusing to the general market place. Makes me think more of Playstation TV vs Apple TV instead of Vita TV vs Playstation Vita.

No, I forgot about those features, makes sense.

I still don't understand. Yes you need the touch/rear touch etc for some games, like Tearaway, but if the PS TV has the ability to throw the PS Vita's screen to a TV, where's the problem? Can the PS TV not use the Vita as a controller or something, if so what's the point of being able to throw the Vita games onto a TV at all then?

My Chromecast's mostly removed my desire for this...but if it allows you to hardcode your DNS entries (FU chromecase and Roku:P ) I might bite.

This isn't "throwing" the games at all. It IS a Vita.

I like how the introducting speech made it sound like playing Vita games was an afterthought. It's the whole reason I'm getting one.

I don't think it allows you to use a Vita-as-a-controller yet.

It certainly could be used as a controller, but you still need the system and game to be patched for it. Even then, some Vita games may simply never be patched, though I have a feeling once the system is discontinued and hackers start having their fun, a workaround or app will allow for 100% compatibility. Just not for a while.

Their insistance on bundling this with a DS3 baffles me. Are they struggling to produce DS4 or something? I mean, in terms of inputs it's a lot closer to a Vita.

I guess its just cost right now. For those interested in PS1/2/3 games on PS Now, or Vita games, the DS3 is just fine. DS4 is only really needed for PS4 remoteplay, and for that you can just use your existing DS4.

btw, how easy is it to switch a DS4 between a PS4 and Vita TV? Can you easily use one and carry it between rooms?

Also, can this be controlled using your TV remote? For stuff like the media apps and basic navigation?

Soo... it's a Vita itself, but without the touchscreens etc. And at the moment it's specifically paired with a DS3 controller?

When it's used like that, it should work. Because you own both the Vita and PSTV. But what percentage of gamers is that who will own both? As far as PSTV is concerned and playing games directly on PSTV, the games are not compatible.

The Playstation TV IS a Vita. It just doesn't have a screen and utilizes a standard Playstation controller for its inputs.

You can use up to two DS3s or DS4s currently. (Not sure if you can mix and match) During the Japanese launch, only the DS3 was compatible.

Doesn't this kind of kill the PlayStation Vita? I presume it won't fully "kill it" because there are games that do work better with the touchpad back, but surely it doesn't help its situation?

This is essentially a Vita without the screen and buttons. The insides are all the same. So I wouldn't say it kills the Vita. This is like a different model, similar to 2DS/3DS.

I think so, too. Sony's job now is to educate the public what it is, what it can do, and who it's for. I mean, we in this thread know that already, but that's only because we're into this stuff. I can think of plenty of people I know who'd like something like this, if only they knew what it was and what it does. If that doesn't happen, it could tank -- unless Sony's as patient with it as Apple's been with Apple TV.

I think one of the best cases for this will be travel. I know I'll like having this when I go visit my parents, for example. Heck, I may buy a second one, and just leave it there for them and any other family members who stay at their place. It won't just be for second screens at your own house; it can make any house's TV your second screen.

If this thing sells well (I don't see why it wouldn't at that price point), won't it create a much bigger incentive for third parties to release more software on the Vita platform?

I haven't tried it, but there is a CEC setting.

Edit: manually specifically says the TV can't turn it on, but the other features should work.

The only other thing I wish this thing can do besides full Vita games compatibility is for other controllers to be supported like fightsticks.

I hope this gets updated for the US release. It would add so much if you could use a Vita as a controller. Tearaway would look awesome on a big TV. Also, Danganronpa is probably not on the list due to the trials (touch controls). Still, Persona 4 and Disgaea 4 is enough for me.
