Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (Naughty Dog) Shown - 2015

btw. they used the phrase "captured from a playstation 3" before when revealing last of us, and that was clearly a pre-rendered cutscene, so unless they clearly state that it's real time I remain a little cautious

Wow, that looks really impressive. I hope the Uncharted 4 gameplay holds up to the trailer though. They should only show 'in-engine' footage instead of supersampled footage. I hate seeing a massive disparity between gameplay and cutscenes. RAD have nailed it with The Order. Konami have also nailed it with MGSV.

where are those who said "oh druckmann and straley know the franchise! they're not gon a make it dark and gritty!"

as far as i can tell they just further pushed uncharted into darker territory. maybe that's why hennig was fired.

I love all the assumptions based on like a minute of a trailer. We all know the game will be good regardless if it's more gritty or not. People need to calm down and just enjoy games more and stop hyperventilating over the small stuff

please. it had a setpiece that was obviously after an explosion. this felt ominous, was way more serious in tone, and had skeletons in cages. even the subtitle felt ominous.

Previous Uncharted games had their own dark moments. I don't get how anyone would think this is something new to the franchise. Drake is always on the brink of despair in the first trailer.

Who did then?

.

UC3 is thematically very dark, it touches on the marital stresses due to Drake's inability to abandon his wanderlust, it involves criminal abuse of orphaned children. It's much heavier than the first two. GA talks about blood-thirst and the psychological impact of murder.

The series has been getting darker. Seems like Druckley's going to give it a hellish send off, which is exactly what the series needs.

EDIT: Beyond Two Souls is the best looking PS3 game.

did i say the other uncharteds did not have dark moments?

i said it looks like they further pushed it into that direction.

i like uber realistic, emotional dark stories but i want to play uncharted.

it feels like every other game is pulling a nolan. if they think the only way to have a better story are tangible dangers, darker tone, and lots if death, then i dunno. i feel like most games can't construct a good story nowadays without having dark elements

Is 4 really going to be a send off, though? The trailer and subtitle have themes of finality in them, but I could see Sony riding this thing out much longer. Maybe a send off for ND, perhaps.

Really excited for this but not going to lie, when that ass House said 'one more thing' and the Sony logo popped up I thought it was going to be TLG and my heart skipped a few beats.

It's really funny to me that no matter how much Naughty Dog has delivered with every PS3 game they've produced on a technical level, people still doubt them.

I didn't see anything in that trailer that's beyond their abilities to produce on the PS4. ND are one of the best, if not the best, techical developer Sony has in their stable. Guerrilla Games is the other.
ND has always coded to the metal, and no doubt they're doing the same here. They will deliver on UC4, and deliver in spades.

Edit: Naughty Dog said in an interview some years back, that the Uncharted series was planned to go beyond just three or four games, and that the series didn't have to star Drake and company, as long as there was a central, historical mystery at its core.

I think this will be the last game with Drake, but any subsequent UC games will have a brand new cast/theme/tone.

Probably better this way, there already was franchise fatigue going around after UC3 and I think everyone wants ND to start a new IP on this new console generation.

It the 60FPS that makes it a bit too crazy for me. Also ND simply tends to pre-render their cutscenes in-engine. But if anyone could pull it off....

Maybe because it might start having the Kratos/GOW effect.

I could see them rebooting with new characters and setting though.

I don't think you can blame Druckmann for this though because the debut trailer from the PS4 launch event already had people saying this game would have a dark and ominous tone.

The graphics for UC4 look like pure CGI. It utterly confounds me that this will be running at 60fps, or at anything higher than 30fps at all!

I love the attention to detail. How the water drips from Nathan's face, or how his clothing and buckles appear to almost independently, or how the mud gets compacted realistically as he gets up.

I know the message said this was captured from a PS4 but was this confirmed to be rendered real time or pre-recorded in-engine cut scene like ND does for their cinematics? Looked good but I don't expect actual gameplay to look that good.

Gotta temper my excitement here... It's just another Uncharted.... It won't change the world... I'll be done in 10 hours.... But fuck, those graphics!!! This E3 is delivering for sure.

Don't get your hopes up. Watch the last of us trailer which was apparently in-game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLGxubfC1Ik
That looks waaay better than the final product.

I think they are going to kill of Drake... That's probably what all the fuss at NaughtyDog was about.

I wouldn't be shocked if we think he's dead at the end of Uncharted 4. Whether he actually is, I doubt it. I wouldn't be shocked if Naughty Dog is done with development of Uncharted after this, though I wouldn't be shocked if they continue to oversee the general direction.

People just doubt (correctly) that those will be the graphics they'll be playing with, but instead the cutscenes one, which looks usually much much better than in-game stuff.
Keeping expectations in check is a good thing.

Lies, all lies!

Okay, maybe technically God of War an Beyond are more impressive, but I still think Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us look better because of free camera control, unmatched art direction, the lighting, and the amount of detail and amazing animations that make Naughty Dog characters seem so lifelike. Kratos looks amazing, but the other characters are all pretty plastics.

Last of Us and God of War III are really really close, but I give it to GoW just because they were able to do it earlier in the gen.

I'm a huge Uncharted fan but if ND wanted to draw a line under it after this I would really respect and appreciate that. Not everything needs to go on forever.

As I've said, that was a lame speculation based on basically nothing.

Why are you selectively quoting yourself? You said "lame speculation from people who don't like UC games and for that reason want to turn them into something else". That wasn't the case, as I explained.

Probably wants to buy all the nice things for his kid but ends up dealing with the wrong people, so they go after his family and he has to save them all. But in the end Sully ends up sacrificing himself because he's way older and wants Drake to live a long life with his kid.

Sounds like Kojima and MGS4.

While many of you would have issues with this type of ending, I wouldn't mind if the ending alluded to Drake's survival if we think he's dead, akin to Dark Knight Rises with Christian Bale in a café, but not so much in your face. More like Sully walking by something in a museum where he gets an uneasy feeling, looks toward a window that should be closed but is instead open, and just then security alarms ring and Sully smirks to himself

END OF UNCHARTED BOOM KABOOM IN YOUR FACE #HEAIN'TDEAD #HEPLAYEDYOU #SULLYBANGSCHLOEANDELENA #HELLYEA

Okay I'm done.

To me it would be like coming full circle and Drake realizing that he can't stop doing what he does best (or worst, depending on how you look at it).

Also, in a shocking turn of events it is revealed that sully slept with drake's wife and is the true father of the kid.
