Completely customiseable main character then eh? We still thinking this will be a traditional game like Xenoblade Chronicles or more MMO/online? I'm honestly hoping for the former with perhaps optional co-op.

What the hell happened to this game? Looks awful. I got major Xenosaga vibes from that which ain't good

Nothing happened.

I've learned to love these responses.

See you guys when we get new gameplay footage.

Hopefully we don't get a repeat of the last gameplay thread where everyone was confused that it played like Xenoblade.

The former based on this trailer. A story-heavy game with a customizable character is still possible.

Updated the OP with the Fact Sheet. It confirms a fully customizable player character. A first for Takahashi's games.

Hype deflated.
This needs to be like Bioware's games when you can only change 1st name, and the story revolves around his title/last name.

Monolith doesn't do good character models, I'm not shocked they haven't drastically improved in this arena.

I imagine it will bother me exactly as much as it did in Xenoblade.

It's funny. Years ago back while they were making the first Xenosaga game I recall an interview by Takahashi that mentioned how hard it was to translate Tanaka's work to 3D models. Almost 15 years later and things really haven't changed at all in that regard.

That story trailer totally reminds me of the opening to Xenogears. Xenogears Episode 1 confirmed?

The girl in the trailer is wearing Monado themed hairclips, so probably not. Probably a direct or indirect sequel to Xenoblade.

Did anybody else get massively disappointed when this trailer started? I legit thought it was Metroid. With that Sunday mass soundtrack I was getting goosebumps. Damn. :(

99% sure it'll be there. Xenoblade had this.

oh now that i think of it, you're right. I didn't play Xenoblade in JP tho because I had already gotten used to the ENG voices when I found out there was a dual track. Oh well, I need to play it again anyway.

Everyone who hates the graphics in this thread are fools. Game still looks great, and if you liked Xenoblade there's a fantastic chance you'll like this too.

I'm preaching on deaf ears

Well strange, when Sony shows a CGI Uncharted teaser and ND says targeting 1080p 60fps (hint: might not reach that goal!) everyone screams best looking ever.

Xenoblade X shows a trailer with more story/character content and everyone sees downgrades.

Could you fanbo... erm i mean experts show me the downgrades? I'd love to seem them in the little videobox the streams were showing it in...

Nice catch!

But isn't The Monado an ancient blade?

I know we all knew custom characters were coming, but I don't have to like it.

I like having a standard face for the main character that everyone shares and can recongise for RPGs, like shulk or vyse.

It just seems harder to associate a characterisation with a person that could be well...anyone.

I agree with that Linkstrikesback.

Yeah, mine too. This felt a lot more like the old Takahashi. I luv it!!!

This. Can't freaking wait! Looks fantastic.

The black haired girl at 1:10 has a Monado hairclip you guys.

Haha.

Ehh, I'm usually not into characters you design yourself in RPGs. I mean, for story-heavy RPGs. Hopefully it won't be like White Knight Chronicles where your character doesn't talk and really is just in the background the entire time - that was awkward. I hope the character you make actually has a voice and talks.

Completely agree. Please be a fully defined, active, fully voiced character that talks and really takes part in things properly, and everything, unlike in White Knight Chronicles.

So good. I'm glad we finally got a story trailer. I'm disappointed it slipped into 2015, but every part of what they've shown has me hyped up.

Same here, the wait's going to be tough but so excited for this!

I was worried about the character designs as soon as Tanaka's name was dropped at the initial reveal, so I was prepared. The game still looks fucking awesome though. I don't see a downgrade - just like in Xenoblades, Monolith pumps everything in the environments and scale over detailed character models, which is totally fine in my opinion. Either way, I'll be there day one.

The only things that look bad are the faces and that makes sense because Xenoblade's characters had faces that a mother would have to wrap in a paper bag to love.

Really interested in the customizable Character and class system.

Yeah. All the other previews on the game didn't show the models up close, but the models here are true to form to the monstrosities from its predecessor. The game itself looks hype though - I really should finish Xenoblade.

Looks awesome, down for a big JRPG... those are so rare these days.

Is the original Xenoblade Chronicles worth picking up for Wii U via bc? Can I play it with the Gamepad?

Their decision to have customizeable characters as the story's main cast just completely killed the hype for me.

And the setting/story doesn't even seem interesting unlike Xenoblade Chronicles.

I've never played any Xenoblade or anything so I might be talking crap, but this trailer gives me a whoooooooole different vibe than the awesome gameplay footage from a few months back. Looks like two very different games in my opinion. Not to mention the seemingly graphical downgrade. Like I said, might have to do with my lack of Xeno knowledge, but that's what I noticed.

Only the protagonist is customizable. It's essentially like Mass Effect.

I'm kinda surprised they stuck with the "Chronicles" part. No one ever calls it that.

It makes the title sound weird and unwieldy in English, especially now that they tacked something else to the end.

"Players can customize everything about the main character’s appearance, including gender, shapes, height, skin color, voice and tattoos."

Top to bottom that whole trailer looks terrible, from the style to the textures to the mechs to the characters to the goofy turnip thing.

I don't think that must be true. You can customize your Character in Mass Effect and still everybody would know who it is if i post a picture of Shepard.

Since the quality sucked on the stream I just watched it again on the Wii U.

So fucking good.

Interestingly doesn't have the after logo snippet.

Bro, that wasn't CG.

Blah blah graphics blah blah blah ugly character designs never played Xenoblade blah.

Looks great and people complaining about it will shut up once it's released just like they did when Xenoblade was still called Monado.

Am I crazy?

I was totally unimpressed with the graphics for past trailers for this game (not the performance or draw distance, but the graphics themselves). With this trailer my very first reaction was "Wow that's a good looking game!"

What the hell are you guys looking at that the graphics were apparently downgraded so much that it dominates the discussion? It still looks awesome to me.

I have a theory about this. I'm not going to spoiler tag because the game has been out a few years and i assume most people in this thread have played it.

So at the end of Xenoblade, Shulk beats Zanza and becomes like a God, and then wishes for a world without Gods and Alvis (the Monado) grants his wish and then we see the world with the Titans sunk into the ocean. Fast forward to this game and we hear the Humans say they lost Earth and took forever to find this planet, which is probably the planet that Xenoblade 1 took place on, which could be evidenced by the fact that the planet is largely blue and we see the mechs flying over vast expanses of oceans. Not to mention the fact that we see another Nopon like Riki was. I would say its probably a sequel that takes place in the distant future from when Xenoblade ended.

What are these downgrades people are speaking of. Its the same game! We saw raw gameplay footage of it back in the February Direct and it has the same character designs there as well. The faces could use work but nothing has changed since the reveal.

Still very hyped. The characters look worse but I still think the Mechs look great. I'm really excited for this, customization doesn't bother me too much so I'm satisfied

It's just the faces.
