DRIVECLUB gets actual weather effects, screenshots inside

I wish I still had my 50€ off Driveclub code Amazon sent me that disappeared from my email account :(

I want the full game, but for cheap.

Dat weather.

You know I think it's because they want to highlight this at Gamescom instead. Reason being EU is the region where Gran Turismo sells the best for them so it's an important market for Sony as far as racers go. So highlight the game prior to E3 and show again at gamescom

at least that's my take on the situation

Well idk...they could easily have shown the trailer, then did gamescon to keep that momentum going and building till release.

It baffles my mind and it seems to be a problem at Sony. The suits really need to stay off the stage. That TV part should have been a better story in Forbes or WSJ. They need to stop these long drawn out speeches. Its fucking E3. One of the few times of the year you have consumers full attention. Showcase your damn wares. As much flak as Microsoft get they knocked it out the park.

I know they like to get allot of info out there...but something could have been cut 2-3 minutes shorter to get a trailer in.

He didn't mention anything about "winning" e3. This game would have gotten more exposure if Sony had shown it with the new weather effects, creating more hype, more awareness from the millions watching e3 on TV or elsewhere who perhaps don't visit gaming forums or websites much. The fact that Sony promoted Destiny I don't know how many times during the conference, a third party game, more than their first party title probably rubs fans of Driveclub the wrong way.

Youtube, Facebook and Twitch uploads are going to sell this game outside of the enthusiast forums, and if this game plays as well as it looks, it's going to sell PS4s in the same places.

Wooooooooooooooooow

My god. Sony's E3 never ends!!!

This is what some forget, E3 is a three-day show, not a 90 minute conference.

Looks like it isn't dynamic.

CZ2JNqf.jpg

This shot is not very good and clear indicator to show that its not dynamic and you can clearly see the dynamic effects from other shots when speeding around the track. You just seems like want to prove this doesn't has any advantage over FH2. Remember, PS4 is more powerful and has closed circuits than FH2 open world and weak Xbox one. So, its easy to pull that dynamic effects in PS4 and still its in development.

So have they commented on how the rain will affect the handling of the cars?

Or how it's going to interact with the physics models/engine they have in place right now?

Would be nice to hear some details about the gameplay.

Hnnnnnnng...

But why the f did they decide to have POWERS, totally unfinished and with an unprepared person talking it through, eat up what felt like 30 minutes, instead of showing this?
Really, Sony? I don't get it. I can't wrap my head around the idea that someone chose sth like POWERS or Shawn's talk over this. It would have made the conference so much better.

Analogy- Superbowl week. Would you have your ad playing during the week leading up to the big game because there's media coverage and people tune in to the extra stuff.

Or would you have your ad play during the Superbowl where you know there will be more eyes on it than at any other time during the festivities?

It's a press conference. E3 is a three day event. Again what difference does it make where they show it?

I guarantee only the folks who give a shit about the competition between Sony and Microsoft give a shit about a game showing up at E3 but not at a two hour press event. It's ludicrous.

Then that's a shitty guarantee and you being willfully shortsighted about what I'm saying. More power to you though.

Dafuq did that have to do with anything in my post? They have the conferences to get you exited for their games. They opened theaters for people to get excited about their games. A shit ton of people tune into the conferences to see about the games.

This is their first exclusive racer for their platform. Why wouldn't you want it to get more attention? It has nothing to do with fanboy crap, it has nothing to do with who won E3. It has something to do with presenting your games at the biggest event of the year for games during your conference dedicated to the games YOU have coming out.

I couldn't care less who "wins" E3. I'm talking, purely, from an eyes on you perspective. Yes it will be there. Who's to say all those people who were at the theaters and who tuned into the conference are going to sit around and wait for every bit of news after?

Seriously...nothing you said was needed and had nothing to do with what I said. Fanboy....I have an avatar stating I believe in the Xbox One and bought a PS4 first.

I'm not trying to prove anything either way. It just looks like the side bumper water should be streaking horizontally like the water on the side of the car. Dynamic water would work that way. Again I'm just going off of the screenshot so I can't be sure.

That's cool. Are you a market analyst? Does Sony's bottom line concern you so much? Who gives a flying fuck? The game is at E3 and it looks magnificent.

I was sure they were going to showcase it. Shame.

Also, your new drake avatar is fucking ace.

OH HELL YES!

Lack of rain was seriously the only thing I was bummed about, went from a 10/10 interest to 20/10.

Why didn't they show this at the conference? I'm sure it would have went over better than the stupid ass "Powers" segment.

they are doing such a good job of marketing this :/

seriously, the lighting is godlike, they have dynamic day-night cycles and now weather. But they don't tell us - loudly - that they have weather, even though FH2 specifically pulled that out as a bullet point in yesterday's conference and last week's announcement

JUST TELL US

Two Words : GAMES...COM

Yes...and so does Micro's and Ninty's cause I like where games are and don't really want anything to sell less than it could. So yes, getting it into as many eyes, to up sales, so that we keep getting these games and not having studios shutter because it didn't do as well as wanted matters a whole lot.

I give a flying fuck...it's cool that you don't.

Miles expand the shot with the side view of the red car. You can see the effects of the rain in relation to the speed.

Wow, I didn't notice that before. Good catch.

Man, these screens are a bloody tease. Where's the footage with rain/snow? I'll try to watch the twitch feed, but this really should have been front at centre at the presser.

ALso hoping that Playground work on making sure the rain streaks because of the speed, because it really stands out and once it's noticed, it's incredibly hard to ignore.

Not sure about devoting lots of time to a free game, but I think MS's conference this year should be the template for future conferences. Not much time looking at ugly devs or suffering through lovable Shu's horrible English. Just one game after another, with the exclusivity announcement in a caption bar at the start of the trailer. Very tight presentation. The template IMO. PEACE.

Thankfully the environmental reflections are actually lined up correctly in Driveclub. Would drive me nuts if they were off like in Infamous.

They are doing screen space reflections in this game, whatever is visible in the screen can get reflected realistically per pixel.
The downside is anything that hidden or not visible on the screen isn't reflected (except for the standard reflection cube), so you get problems like here to the right of the Mclaren's wheel.

But overall it's a very nice effect.

No, it makes sense as to why Sony left this game out of the E3 presser:
-We've seen the game 3 different shows
-Sony likely didn't want to trot out games like The Witness and Driveclub that were already supposed to be out
-Gamescom is the right venue where sony is stronger, and driving games like GT are bigger.
