Final Fantasy Type-0 HD coming to PS4/Xbox One (no Vita), Agito coming too (iOS/And)

Vita fans are the main people who wanted this game to come over, many other people didn't even care.

Er, I hope not. This is a massive game no matter what platform it's on (even though its PSP limitations may make it feel like an old game despite the graphics on the new hardware to some people,) so it makes plenty of sense to me why S-E went with a console for the remake rather than trying its hand again at the tricky handheld market. And console fans are somewhat well served in Final Fantasy offerings with what's on PS3/360, but for the new console, there's nothing yet (and nothing BC) besides XIV, with XV long off in the distance. And Final Fantasy fans just want it, they've got no real reason to be picky about platform (unless they have a personal preference) when the option before this was no-game.

If you're saying the only reason to care was because it was on PSP and former PSP owners now want it on Vita, I guess there are those people out there, but Square Enix needs to bank on a lot more business than that.

I'd be surprised if it didn't come to Vita as well, especially given the landscape of the JP market. Or at least PS3. Seriously, why PS4 and Xbox One only for a port of a PSP title? This makes no damn sense.

Holy shit. Went to an appointment and Vita was nixed by the time I returned!?

Really sucks for people that want to play this on a portable.

whaaaaaaaaaattttt?????

WHAATTTT??????

why wasn't this at sony's or even microsoft's e3 conference????? this is huge what in the legit hell

i honestly don't care what platform it's on, just happy i'll get to play this

The cheaper solution for this game was 30-40 bucks, then it was supposed to be 100-150, then it became 399. That's the main reason of concern, a mild upscaling isn't worth the investment seeing as neither platform shows any future with Japanese role playing games.

This robot is a representation of Square-Enix's execution of this announcement.

The only thing they could do to add salt to that Vita wound would be for this HD version to actually be the translated PSP ISO running in an emulator wrapper.

This has got to be a screenshot of the PS4 port, as the textures and lighting are way too good-looking to be from the PSP game.

It's from the PS4/XB1 version. I'll edit the OP to make that more clear.

Yeah, who knows?

Maybe it is coming to Vita, and Square decided at the last minute not to announce that for whatever reason? Like, not to show favoritism towards Sony since there was also the Xbone announcement?

Blog team and everyone at Sony knew about the Vita version, but weren't aware that Square had decided to scale back the announcement. And went ahead based on their previous info.

If that was the case, I don't think they would've issued a retraction. They would know the kind of reaction that would receive.

I've been playing for two hours. Barely scratched the surface. The fan translation is top notch.

I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, but do I have to crack my PSP to install the patch? I'm pretty terrible at doing this sort of stuff, tried to do it before to emulate NES games and stuff and winded up messing up all sorts on my memory stick.

I don't understand how this happened.

I got what I wanted, I got the localisation of Type-0 after all these years and yet I somehow get a kick in the nuts at the same time.

I'm dumbfounded.
Your comment describes best what I felt after this whole drama.

Welp. I guess I still have the PS4 version, if this doesn't make its way to the Vita.

That PS Blog is getting hit with devout Vita fans.

Regardless of how dead the system is, the fight must continue!! Maybe even Dreamcast wouldn't have been so ill-fated if social media was around back then.

Can someone explain why people are so upset? I don't know much about Type-0, but I know people have wanted it localized for a long time. Why is it so bad that it's only on PS4? I've heard good things about type-0 and I'm just glad I'll get to play it at all, and playing on a ps4 seems like the best way to do so.

Whaaaaaaat the fuuuuuuuuuck?!

Where did this come from? Was it announced on the Square stream?

I was so close to importing the japanese UMD. Jesus Christ. Thank God. I am so happy! ;-;

It makes perfect sense if they release the Vita version only in Japan and pretend that it doesn't exist elsewhere in the world.

People want the vita to live. It's also on XBO

SE rep posted the announcement on the psblog. Then an hour later they have edited it.

It's nothing about what's profitable, hell being on PS4/XB1 will probably be more profitable. It's the fact that the main reason this is coming over is because of Vita fans, and they're getting screwed over.

Vita fans have been requesting this game for a long time. It should have been released on the Vita too at the very least *bitter*

Putting all the controversy around the Vita version to the side, I'm so glad this has been finally announced. Game has looked interesting for ages anr I've been crying jnside for a localisation.

Sure I would have liked a Vita version as well with cross save, but getting it on PS4 is ideal and the best I could have hoped for

Im sad this isnt on Vita but even happier its on PS4. Ideally, itd be both.

I hope it actually takes advantage of the hardware. An upscaled PSP game would be much more palatable to the Vita then a PS4. Id expect more from a ps4 remaster, especially after The Last of Us.

It looks really good from what I can see.

If they are doing a remake more than a remaster I'm all for the console versions.

I played the game when it came out, that shot tells me the scope of this release is going to be far beyond the usual uprez port (unless it's a complete lie...). Specially the world map of the game is PSX level of jank, that's not going to be presentable for a current gen console game. I think this must be closer to a remake than an HD port ala Peace Walker, the title of the game might be underselling it.

seriously guys look at that screenshot.

Vita can't handle that shit and thank fuck, no resources wasted. Devs are all in on the console remasters hopefully.

It was initially announced for PS Vita on the blog, and Vita owners were the most vocal about it getting localised for ages, sprinkle on that Tales of R was the glimmer of hope that was needed and we come to this.

The entitlement from the Vita hardcore is astonishing.

Entitlement? Seriously? The platform has gotten generally shit on since day one, and the main push for this game in the west came from the #sonyJRPG side of things. Add the fact that not only did it get announced for Vita, it then got taken away. There is a strong fanbase on the system that buys a ton of games (attach rates are insane) and this was the ONE game that people had been begging for since the launch of the system.

So if we're a bit salty, I think it's justified.

SE could always just localize the game like they're planning on doing and apply the effort on the PSP version of the game and release it on PSN, that way everyones happy (for the most part).

But, that probably makes TOO much sense for them to do...
