Final Fantasy Type-0 HD coming to PS4/Xbox One (no Vita), Agito coming too (iOS/And)

Oh, c'mon, it's not. It's only a natural reaction after an announcement such as this. If the mistake wouldn't have been made, yes we would have still complained but not to these heights.

When I see posts like this I just can't help but roll my eyes. If you guys wanted the game localized so much why are so many of you claiming "OH ILL JUST BUY IT USED NOW!!!! THAT WILL SHOW THEM"

People who wanted FF Type-0 localized (like myself) will buy the PS4 or XB1 version day one. People who wanted more Vita exclusives will cry and pretend they actually wanted to play this game.

He has a point though: why release a big HD remaster for a very unstable platform when you can reach a gigantic audience? It's just smart business (even though it should be ported to Vita as well).
Why would they ever do that?

Another relevant question: FF Type 0 was designed for a portable platform and if I understand it right, it has quick mission structures catered to the mobile audience. How is this going to work on consoles, I wonder...

Only if you say it's a spoiler and then continue to specify the show that spoiler is from. I surely have no idea what it's from.

As soon as someone mentioned the character name I knew immediately what it was a spoiler for despite not watching anything since the first season.

Also thanks for spoiling the show jerks! (don't actually care that much but aw man)

You pretty much answered your own question. I don't understand how they can't reach a gigantic audience WHILE pleasing the Vita fans that have been asking for it at the same time. How can SE claim they have heard the fans while they pull a move like that?

And yet one person I know who played it in Japanese when it came out is jumping up and down going "YES! IT WILL BE SO MUCH BETTER ON A CONSOLE!"

Holy shit, what a major fuckup, i dont even know what to say.

I never expected it to be a vita exclusive, but announcing it for vita (even if it was a mistake) and then backtracking is far worse than no vita version at all.

It was initially announced for PS Vita on the blog, and Vita owners were the most vocal about it getting localised for ages

In fairness though, people were asking for a Vita version because it seemed like the most viable option. PSP is dead so Vita version seemed like the most likely solution. If the choice is between PS4 and Vita then give me PS4 every time.

I can't imagine it'll take too long for it to be released, right? I mean, if I recall correctly, the localization has been done for a long while, no?

Somebody would have to check the tally, but I would bet a good portion if not majority of the petitioners were just bugging Square for the game in general. Vita was a factor because Vita was the logical destination, but if it really was just Vita owners demanding Type-0, I don't think we would be here in this thread talking about this remastering, on any platform.

But yeah, "entitlement" is a little rough. There's reason to have expected it on Vita if anything (and Sony didn't do hearts any good by blowing the announcement.) Plus, if they're going to be ripping open the code for a port, even with a nice asset step-up it seems like their work could remain within Vita (or PS3/360, for that matter... otherwise, Lightning Returns is probably the end of the line there) if the engine/middleware supported the platform.

Im 100% positive we wouldn't have this localization without the vita and psp supporters. You can try to downplay them but its the truth.

I know why, but still, I'm finding it difficult to absorb that anguish has been the dominant response to this announcement. It's pretty incredible that not only are we finally getting Type-0, but that it's also being turned into a current generation game. What SE has been lacking isn't handheld presence, but console presence - this announcement takes me, at least, back to when FF titles sold consoles. It's a move that vastly exceeds what anyone could before today reasonably expect of SE, one that makes sense for the game/franchise, and certainly one that makes sense for fans of the franchise as a whole.

Again, I can understand the disappointment. The idea that there's some grave injustice being done here, though, is just groundless.

This is Square Enix. Look at how long it took us to get Kingdom Hearts HD. We will be lucky to see this before 2016.

By that logic we can just scrap dedicated all together and go smartphone only.

Oh I'll buy it on PS4 but to ignore the Vita all together? The clusterfuck of a reveal? Yeah people have every right to be miffed.
But then again I don't see people claiming vita exclusive but rather that we want it there as well.

To people still being smug at Vita owners only, you are not funny. Just being idiots, not idjits, trolls or funny just plain boring idiots.

I love how you lump everyone together for the sake of your argument.

For the 100th time, not every Vita owner has a PS4 or a X1 for god's sake

Final Fantasy Type-0 is many things, but it is not the game formerly known as Versus XIII. It was announced alongside Versus XIII in the Fabula Nova Crystalis series of Final Fantasy game as Agito Final Fantasy XIII for mobile phones. Development then shifted to PSP and eventually the game was renamed Final Fantasy Type-0. Square Enix reused the game's assets for Final Fantasy Agito, a different mobile game that takes place in Type-0's universe. Type-0 (the PSP game) is now getting redone for PS4 and Xbox One.

The hell? Ok. Lets see if I can clear this up even if E3 hype is still fresh in mah body. It's making me not think straight ;) FF Type-0 and FFXV are two different games. FFXV use to be named FF ver. XIII. Type-0 use to be called FF XIII Type-0, I think. Both games, long with FF XIII Lightening games, are apart of something called Fabula Nova Cyrstalis. These games share a common theme/myth regarding crystals and deities.

OK, so this is a different game and NOT FFXV. Gotcha.

Just what we were missing. You defending every decision SE comes up with. Can't you let fans be disappointed for once?
Type-0 HD is a pretty awesome announcement. It will be much better than what the original Type-0 was, which has it own sleigh of gameplay & technical problems due to the platform. I just can't see any reason to be disappointed. Type-0 is not the kind of game that is better on a small screen and will simply benefit from being on the big screen. Just sounds like no matter what awesome things Square Enix does, some of you want to be butthurt and bitch about them.

I'd understand the vitrol if they had announced they are doing nothing else but bringing Agito outside Japan and had scrapped all plans for Type-0's localization, but I really can't see anything to get so insanely mad about when they announce a PS4. I mean, FF fans would probably own a PS4 or Xbone in the future anyway when FFXV is released (if that turns out to be good) and they are going to support the platforms with other JRPGs, so it's not like they are forcing you to buy a platform that is on its way out and isn't likely to get any/much more SQEX support in the future (like, say, Vita) for a single FF game. Vita is, in every way, the worse option for Type-0 than PS4 & Xbone.

I'm 100% positive that's bullshit, else it would be on Vita.

SE has never forgotten about this game. They always said they would like to localize it, but that psp wasn't an option. This presents them with an opportunity to get a nice FF title out while we wait for FF15.

Pretty much. If anyone could point out an official campaign supporting Type-0 on the same level as #JRPGVita, then I'd like to see it.

Its more or less about treating your fans right. People loved type-0 and wanted a localized version for years. So much so that they've actually gone and translated the game so for square enix to ignore them, release the game on 2 different platforms then the ones most of the fans wanted it for is just a big F U to their fans who wanted the game in the first place. If they also released it on the vita or even ported a psp version then there wouldn't be people complaining. Though to expect Square enix to treat their fans well when they've been crapping on them for years is unexpected.

Ok, GAF. I know nothing about Final Fantasy Type-0. I am a big Final Fantasy fan from 1-10, but never played anything since that other than FFXIV (MMO). Didn't touch any of the XIII stuff.

I love traditional JRPGs and have been wanting to scratch that itch on PS4. Should I be excited?

Obviously it wasn't just the Vita community who kept the pressure on Square-Enix for the game, but if you dismiss them and their work on the matter, then you're just being wilfully ignorant.

The crazy part about this is that it actually would be super-profitable to do this in Japan where the Vita is king and the PS4 is treated like an ugly stepchild by Japanese developers.

Vita is King? Hardly..
Well behind 3ds even in weekly hw sales and its closing in on 10k barrier again.

assuming they don't change anything in this release (I think chances are high they will), I don't think there will be any issue with the game structure.

The game is divided by chapters, each chapter has one story mission that you get some in game days to prepare for. The story missions aren't anything that can't work as a console game. Actually it would work great, there are tons of cutscenes CG and stuff, they involve going through a dungeon and boss fights and no, they're not exactly bite sized missions. They can be pretty long, you have save points in there just like a console FF would have.

What might be considered bite sized and designed for "mobile", are whatever you get to do on those in game days. There are still several story events to view. The requests you do aren't any different than usual generic fetch quests in JRPGs either. I don't think playing it as a console game would be an issue. There were some features like gaining xp while psp is sleeping and things like that, that might not make sense here but as a whole there isn't anything making this worse to play as a console game.

You missed out on FF12? :/

Release a game on a platform that is pretty much dead or release it on two that will probably have combined sales of 25+ million by the time this is released? I don't really know where you are getting that the most vocal fans are just Vita owners. Most of those people probably have at least some interest in either PS4 or Xbone (if they don't already have one). The Vita install base is pathetically small, it doesn't make much sense to release a console-level FF on it. 3DS would've been ok, but Vita is already both feet in its grave. The indies are slowing its burial, but it's gonna happen sooner rather than later.

I never said it was an either or proposition. We are all aware of how much it cost to port a game to a platform. 2-3 million. Do you think that releasing a Vita port wont make enough sales in Japan and the west to cover that? It makes sense to release it in current gen, I never said it didn't, so I don't know why you read into my post what I didn't wrote. SE is a horrible company and it's financial reports show that. They should have done a vita port of the localized game, this is peeing on the fans of its games and completely unbecoming.

The only thing that they'd have to change about the game for the HD console is the multiplayer mode but I doubt that would be a hard task. I do hope they add more to the gameplay/ improve camera control for the HD remake though.
