DRIVECLUB gets actual weather effects, screenshots inside

Looks gorgeous, but I hope I can raise the height of the bumper cam view, when you get close to the back of other cars it looks like your driver is laying on a skateboard, I'm literally looking up at their tail lights.

The bumper cam is... on the bumper :p That's not meant to simulate your driver!

I can't believe the level of detail in that gravel.

Just what in the fuck. Will people even be able to see this?

I will... :(

I love driving at snail pace checking out every minor detail, a digital art connoisseur, i hate it when other cars bump into me and interrupt me.

This is a fine looking set of pixels, damn. I don't think my old Panny plasma will do this - or many of the other games shown in the last day or two - justice.

Jumping into the current-gen consoles is going to be expensive!

I'm kind of glad this got delayed.
Want to enjoy my summer outside!!
Damn this looks better every time I see it!!!

What if you set a snowy time trial up with 60x time and leave the car parked and game running, how many ft of snow will accumulate on the track / environment?

Can you plough through and deform the snow with your car?

Wow the ''journalist'' first slipped on Paul's surname...then he said ''oh you had a great showing at yesterday's conference''.....pathetic...

At least the footage looks great :D

I'm not sure how to pronounce Rushy surname either. I'd just call him Paul Rush or something, seems fitting for racing game director. lol

Err he could have called him.... rushy. If he were a true journalist he'd know that. Make him more hipster too.

At any rate Rushy, we have NEW DEMANDS. Sit yourself down. Delay if need be.

We need TREK ROAD & MOUNTAIN BIKES in this game.

I'm sorry about this.

I think of him as Baghdad Bob. Much easier to pronounce.

I am utterly shocked by the visuals of this game - to me - the best looking driver my eyes have ever had the opportunity to watch.

I hope the game play is just as good, although, I wish the Bizarre Creations pumpkin was behind it... I miss the old days.

Will snow actually accumulate on the car and pile up is another question.

Make that a double high five!

This is looking quite sublime; now have to make a choice between this and FH2 as I don't want two consoles and yet there are PGR elements in both games.

Seriously TJP. FH was one of my favorite recent racers, it can really sway me to get a Xbox One first. I'd love to get both right away, but let's be honest, 8 month old girl, yeah right...
Probably just stick with one for a while.

This is looking absolutely fantastic, the lighting is so incredible. PGR vibe for sure.

PS4 you also get to import MotoGP14 and the future WRC games too though. Already confirmed no Xbox One support for MotoGP.

Man, so many great looking racing games coming. Cannot wait for pCARS too.

At least I'll get Grid Autosport and FH2 on the 360 until making the jump.

More details on how the weather system works

In addition to featuring a day/night cycle with full real-time lighting and shadows, DriveClub also has an extensive weather system. The position of the sun is determined by the time of day and the real-world location of the track you're racing. Location also affects the type of weather you'll see; our first demo takes place on a winding track in Scotland, and the weather is appropriately misty and overcast. A large cloud bank blocks the sun, giving the track an eerily realistic muted look. Unlike most games, the clouds aren't merely a pretty skybox, but are fully simulated and different every time you play. They also move and mutate based on the direction and speed of the wind.

After a few minutes of driving, the developer turns up the precipitation until the drivers are caught in a full-on rainstorm. The feel of race changes along with the new weather, as visibility lowers and cars begin to kick up large clouds of mist on the road. ]b\As the rain increases, the roads become slick and shiny, and puddles form, reflecting everything in the environment, including cars, roadside flags, and rocks.[/b] The developer pauses the action and pans around the camera to show off how truly impressive the effects are. He stresses that it's not just an illusion – the weather is being fully simulated across the entire mountain that the race is taking place on.

Once the rainstorm ends, Evolution says that the puddles will realistically evaporate based on the layout of the track and the wind.

Afterwards, the developer starts a race in Norway to show off DriveClub's snow effects. Like rain, snow accumulates realistically and affects driving conditions as well as visibility. At the height of the simulated storm it's nearly impossible to see the other cars on the road, which should make for some interesting challenges that players can create to test their friends.

Damn, looks good.

I can see Dennis getting this game, and spending hours trying to figure out how to open the car door so he can walk along the track to take pics.

Why on earth didn't they show this at the conference in the place of that CEO's life story?

Pretty much the only genre that wasn't covered at their conference was a racing game.

This looks ridiculously good. Weather effects and dynamic snow is a megaton in my eyes.

OH GOD I swear I want a mode where you a rendered person and you can just run around.

heck make a running marathon race online match on these tracks, with storms blowing crazy......having players to quickly find some type of object to hold on to (like a pole)and if they don't they get blown backwards....then when the wind settles, you start running again... you predict the wind coming by the changes of the setting, sound, flapping of your clothing/flags....and quickly find some object...or take a gamble to take the lead and run just alittle further than everyone else...but if you don't find anything in time...you are blown backwards again..

sorry for going way off topic...but man, the tech in this game has me thinking crazy things.

I personally loved it. Felt alot less arcadey then last years demo. Lighting looks great and in-car view was impressive. I also loved whatever wheel I was using at the station. Definitely increased my hype that I didnt have after last years e3 demo

That's great to hear. I was hoping it'd lean more towards sim than arcade similar to PGR2 and less like GRID2.
