There was also a point where Jeff completely ran out of ammo. Now... Jeff is not a bad FPS player. He's been playing them for a large chunk of his life, he reviews most of them for Giantbomb, so the guy knows what he's doing. And he completely ran out, and was just standing there doing nothing. And that seems insane. Again... in a traditional MMO, players don't run out of ammo. They always have some mana left for to cast a spell, or they can build up rage, or just autoattack. But you don't run out of ammo. So to see Jeff actual run out of ammo and just be left completely useless seems like a very not fun sort of game. You should never run out of ammo. Of course, I can understand why he did, because like I said in the first paragraph... these enemies are all bullet sponges. But this game is not supposed to be some sort of survival horror game, like Dead Space. There needs to be ammo all the time.

Eh. If anything, I prefer that fact that you have to traverse down to the enemies you killed to get ammo for your weapons. Do you want regenerating ammo or something? It's not a MMO. They don't have to coddle you. I wouldn't like being able to just crouch behind a rock for 10 seconds to 'regen' my ammo. That's crazy.

I think that's the problem, they haven't really done much to alter Dinklage's voice to sound non-human, so it just sounds like he's trying to do a monotone robotic line delivery and it comes off as slightly forced.

I don't completely dislike it, really it's just the short bits of dialogue that are one or two words in length where it sticks out to me.

Yes....if anyone at Bungie is listening....R2D2 and cortana have good artificial AI voices. You need to get the guy from Game of Thrones to redo all his stuff because he sounds dead and i'm going to hate listening to him for 100+ hours.

www.twitch.tv/ninja for active alpha gameplay from a Halo pro

This post left a bad taste in my mouth. People just want gameplay impressions man. Referring to a stream as a pro just comes off in poor taste. You could've simply said 'active alpha gameplay streaming now' and you likely would've had a lot more people tune in.

I'm no slouch at shooters. I'm not a pro, but I'm no slouch, and certainly not intimidated by watching pro players. That said, when someone refers to a streamer as a 'pro', I'm immediately turned off by it. Even if they're not promoting their own stream.

OT: From the sounds of it this game is shaping up to be exactly as I expected it to be, which is definitely not a bad thing. :)

Watching the Giantbomb Quick Look, I saw... a game that really seems to drop the ball. Granted, it's only the alpha, so maybe it'll all change.

Enemies seem to all be bullet sponges, to varying degrees. Not only bullet sponges, but they also don't seem to react to bullet impacts. You can't stagger them or make them flinch with shooting them, from what I could tell. So you're firing full auto at this huge bullet sponge "Hive Knight" or a bullet sponge giant purple ball... and that doesn't look fun to me. It's the same problem that I had with Borderlands. There's nothing fun about playing a first person shooter if you feel like your gun is terribly weak.

I also don't know what's going on with the companion cube's voice acting. It sounds horrible. Like, I know it's a cube and not a real person, but the flat tone just comes off as... completely disinterested and awkward. And not in a "Hal 9000" sorta way. More of a "Wow, they got a terrible actor in the voice booth" sorta way.

Graphics do look good though.

Yeah, this definitely has echoes of playing Borderlands, especially while underleveled or on TVHM or UVHM.

At least you don't have to run your ass away all the way to the beginning of the level and spend all your money on ammo right?

Quite a few people I know can tell, particularly when they've been playing something that's a solid 60 and switch over to 30 or lower.

Whoever was discussing the framerate in the first place may have recorded some footage and actually confirmed this as well.

Everyone [that plays games] I know can tell.

No, I wouldn't want regenning ammo. Maybe just larger ammo reservoirs, so you only have to venture out from cover to recover ammo pickups every few minutes, instead of every 30 seconds? Something along those lines.

I just watched the hovercraft scene...No air pressure or anything at all when it is hovering on the water/tall grasses?
I hope they add some wind element when the hovercraft passes by...those tall grasses/trees are just standing there =(

He was level 4 doing a strike designed for level 6+ players, and he was doing it on a difficulty that also reduced his weapon effectiveness. he shouldn't have been there, at all.
Watch anyone that's level 8 do the same strike and you'll probably say that enemies die too quickly.

He wasn't picking up ammo drops and realized this later on in the video. He also mentioned he hadn't played the game at all before starting the quicklook, outside of making a character, which he didn't play, so he didn't have any idea how any of the mechanics worked, and Brad was completely clueless to the details readily available about Destiny so far, too.

Jeff was also at a lower level than his fireteam and at least 4 levels lower than the enemies they were fighting, so his damage output was really low.

Well, he is a pro halo player. His team won the only MLG tourny for H4, and one other one that I know of for H4. It's not like he just put that in his title as some random person begging for views. It always says Professional player in his title.

Not sure what your so mad about.

One concern from watching some of this stuff: the bullet sponginess. Can anyone who is in the alpha and maxed out at the current cap speak to whether the bullet sponge nature of the enemies goes down significantly?

The 'bullet sponge patch' ruined what was left of Defiance, and I'm really hoping that this game doesn't turn into another Defiance situation but with a Halo-esque skin on it.

Jeff was also at a lower level than his fireteam and at least 4 levels lower than the enemies they were fighting, so his damage output was really low.

Nvm I think that's my answer. Will find out soon enough. :)

Oh okay, fair enough. I figured the game would've auto-guided him into a dungeon at his appropriate level, but I guess that wasn't his destiny.

Just finished the Strike Mission with Vire.

It's crazy intense. They were throwing a ton of enemies at us, and it was a blast cutting them all down and working as a team to fend off waves of bad guys. I definitely had to learn how to use all of my skills correctly. Popping heads with my Scout Rifle worked really well until the melee guys got closer, and switching to my shotgun and wrecking them was super satisfying. The music was epic as hell. Brought back Halo memories.

My criticisms come when looking at the bosses. I don't know that I'd call them especially difficult, and maybe it was because we were lower levels, but it took sooooo long to take them down. They were the definition of bullet sponges. I didn't really mind it too much, as it felt sort of like MMO bosses that take lots of focus over a long period of time. And, they were fun/epic. I would like it if their health was lowered a bit in the actual game, as it did get a bit tedious.

I don't consider the normal enemies bullet sponges. They die fairly quickly with the right tactics, and if you are at the equivalent level. Their kill times are reminiscent of Halo. Some types last longer than others because of their shields (Wizards, Captains, etc) but if you take their shields down you're good to go.

The bosses seem to take tons of bullets though, but they are usually huge and it makes sense. (Giant Robots, etc)

That rocket launcher reload animation is straight out if halo
, watched about 30 mins on stream , looks ok but nothing amazing. These levels will get old pretty fast.

Yeah, I saw a stream where a max level player (level 8) tried to fight some elite enemy that didn't have its level displayed and he didn't do much damage to it at all. But he was taking down level 5-7s in just a few bullets.

Popped into the Tower and first thing I see is you Gaz.

Hi! I saw some guy that I did a mission with earlier and we danced a little bit when we recognized each other.

Add me! Gaz_RB is my PSN.

Another thing that's weird is that when you join someones fireteam, you have to reload back into the game. It's strange. Also, it doesn't seem like you can start a fireteam in explore mode then bring it into a Strike Mission or Crucible. You have to leave the game/fireteam, and reinvite them. Maybe I'm missing something.

That was fucking crazy. My controller was pretty sweaty afterwords haha.

If we focused fired on one leg, it would have revealed the core much quicker on the tank boss. Instead we were all firing on different legs so it took much longer. I didn't have a mic, so I couldn't tell ya'll, but that's okay, it was still fun.

Also, none of us had heavy weapons, I just got some from the Strike mission and the Rocket Launcher did 1500 damage non crit, so I'm sure that would have helped. I don't think they need to adjust it, I liked the surprising amount of difficulty!

Ahhh I forgot about heavy weapons! Gonna have to find me one of those. But yeah that was a blast. And I think I'm ok with the difficulty too, it just forces you to understand the boss and have a strategy. I had no idea about the leg thing.

If all the Strike Missions are that fun/intense, Bungie's got my $60. I have a question though. When I found you in Explore mode, did you join my game or did it just randomly match us up in the same Explore bubble?

First impressions so far (as an angel from on high answered my prayers):

The game feels very much like Halo to me. Combat was fun once I figured out the button layout on a DS4. The graphics are really damn good so far, the lighting is amazing. Seeing the shadows of enemies as they attempted to flank me was really, really damn cool and surprising. I attempted to slam my bike into dudes more than once to little effect. Will attempt more ramming later. The UI is really nice. The Tower is a really neat thing, like an MMO social hub, I love it.

Some short thoughts, I'm shaking from how much this game is exciting me right now. There are some small nagging issues I have that I'll lay out later, but right now it's almost nitpicky stuff.

EDIT: I also really, really love the shotgun.

If you fight enemies that are higher level, the result is bullet sponginess. To force people to upgrade I am not sure what the solution is to this. If they went down quick, why upgrade? If you never see these high level enemies, what would compel you to upgrade?

Oh, also the customization options were good enough that I recreated my femShep. Pretty stoked about that. What's there is basic-ish, but it works.

my favorite thing about the customization is that it has some bizarre colour options, like really high saturation colours for things.

Really hoping to get a code Thursday. Had a pre-order since E3 last year and already registered the code on Bungies site. So excited for this to release. Especially after watch the GiantBomb video.

That was just by chance that I ran into you like that.

I noticed that, expecting to see some Dark Souls level abominations before long haha.

I just hurled myself off the tower after watching another guy do it. It was really amusing. Onto freeroam-y stuff for a short bit before I sleep.

have people been getting codes for access for thursday yet?

The FAQ on the PS site mentions that those codes will be distributed starting Thursday at noon. I think those playing now have found other ways of getting codes.

I'm really hoping that I manage to get into it. But i've never really had luck with beta/alpha codes. I somehow didn't even get into that Hardline beta even though I signed up right when it went up.

Are the skill trees for the different classes known yet? Can someone make a screenshot and explain what can be unlocked?
I can't decide wether I should roll Hunter or Warlock. Double jump is always a nice thing to have but would going Warlock limit me from getting to some places without double jump? Do Warlocks get something similar?
Any insight guys?

Warlock has sort of a jet pack type thing. They are just as mobile if not more mobile than hunters. I love getting on top of stuff as Warlock and sniping down on peeps. As for the skill trees, give me a bit and I'll try to get something together.
